In January 2019, Kaling joked about a car crash (https://variety.com/2019/film/features/mindy-kaling-late-night-sundance-1203112400/) she just got into before an interview with Variety. “When you get in a car accident on Highland and Fourth and your car is totaled and looky-loos come up and ask to take a photo with you, then you wish that you weren’t everyone’s best friend," she joked. Kaling is now being sued for that accident. She's accused of running a stop sign and colliding with a woman's vehicle, causing "grave bodily injury."
