Was it ever mentioned as to why Doris called her father by his name, Buck, instead of Dad or something of that nature? It seemed weird to me. I thought perhaps he was her father in law, but that wasn’t the case was it?

Doris and Denver were not that far apart in age but he played her Father. True- and the only thing that really set the performers apart from age was Mr. Pyle having white hair while Miss Day was a blonde! It's funny how Doris not only called him 'Buck' but sometimes would call him 'Buckaroo' when she was trying to get him to do a favor for her! Of course, in her latter two seasons when she got amnesia about having ever married or having had kids (and called herself 'MISS Martin'), she called her boss 'Cy' instead of 'Mr. Bennett' or even his full name of 'Cyril'.. Yet, believe it or not had Mr. Pyle visit her one last episode calling him 'Buck' but his surname somehow got changed to 'Martin' instead of his original 'Webb' (and one time the retconed 'Miss Martin' had talked about 'writing her mother' but no mention of whether Buck was a widower as he had been in the earlier incarnation- or the two of them had long since separated or divorced). Wow, looks like some surreal times coming up with the Doris Day Show. The two episodes I caught this morning must be somewhat early in the run, as Denver Pyle is a solid cast member (he even directed one of the episodes), Rose Marie is the faithful gal Friday, along with the two generic sons, and an ensemble cast of great actors, too many to even list. Hard to imagine all this solid storyline will eventually change and get confusing. I'll be watching, though. I wonder if Buck will find a coffee shop with folk singers and musicians he can do some picking with. 🙂 DJM77 08-12-2023, 03:14 PM Denver Pyle is a solid cast member (he even directed one of the episodes) He directed some episodes that he wasn't even in.
