This was pointed out before but I went back and checked. There is a scene in the episode where the Chief is speaking with Ray Parker Jr trying to figure out who he is. Of course as with all stereotypes he refers to him as other black entertainers since he doesn't really know who Ray Parker Jr is.
The edit comes where Chief thinks he's Ray Charles. It is so brief that you would miss it if you weren't paying attention. The dialogue "I'm Tone Deaf" and "Welcome to Glenlawn" were edited out on the DVD set. It goes from Ray Parker Jr saying "That's Ray Charles" then cuts to Nell coming from the kitchen. On the TV recording I have and it is a syndicated version from WTWB the scene goes from Ray Parker Jr saying "That's Ray Charles" followed by "I'm tone deaf" then the Chief stated "Welcome to Glenlawn" then transitions to Nell coming from the kitchen.
I'm unsure why those lines were cut out. It doesn't take away from the scene but it's a strange edit indeed.
They weren't cut for content because the dialogue wasn't offensive. It's not a syndicated print as it runs well over 23 minutes so I'm not sure what happened here.
I can only guess that there was a flaw in the original master of the episode that couldn't be fixed so they opted to remove that particular dialogue. Since it was only a few lines they probably thought no one would notice or care.
My only issue with this edit is that the dialogue is shown in syndication but not on the supposedly "completely uncut" DVD set. If it wasn't shown anywhere I could see what may have happened but the dialogue is present when the episode is aired on TV.
Not upset just trying to follow the logic. I still love my DVD set regardless.
