For some reason I can never figure out why Malcolm is a popular male name and I think it became popular when Jurassic Park came out and Jeff Goldblum's was named Dr. Ian Malcolm and when Malcolm In The Middle came out Malcolm became a popular name again. But I think why Frankie Muniz didn't want to name his son Malcolm is he thought as his son grows up he might get teased about his name so Frankie chose not to name his son Malcolm so his son would not be made fun of. But when I hear the name Malcolm it brings to mind a smart talented genius or a proper British gentleman or a rich banker with loads of skills
