During AI’s first seasons on Fox, AI was a major event. Now, it doesn’t seem to matter so much.

View Full Version : Is “American Idol” still relevant? Cbalducc 10-19-2020, 08:22 PM During AI’s first seasons on Fox, AI was a major event. Impressions 10-31-2020, 05:24 PM It's irrelevant today. You don't need American Idol to gain superstardom. The show was created long before social media existed, and people can gain notoriety on social media for their talents now. Also, you don't need to win the show to be successful. Some of the runner-ups or finalists are more successful than the winner. The show is kind of dated now with regards to social media. In fact, the whole show is going to be done remotely next season, which, defeats the entire purpose of the in-person show. JamesG 10-31-2020, 08:48 PM Some of the runner-ups or finalists are more successful than the winner. William Hung actually sold more albums in total over AI winner Taylor Hicks. Hawkee 05-17-2021, 03:17 AM From the time American Idol was gonna be announced on FOX people were thinking that it was gonna be a 2000's version of Star Search and so when American Idol launched it's first season it's mission was to turn ordinary people into mega music stars. And when Kelly Clarkson became the first American Idol winner FOX knew they had a hit on their hands and so when Kelly released her debut album Thankful Kelly Clarkson became a huge star and she now is a successful talk show host. But I think had Clay Aiken won instead of Ruben Studdard in Season 2 we would've seen a new trend of male singers that are talented instead of the R&B image that they started doing when Ruben won and that's why starting with Fantasia in Season 3 American Idol started focusing on R&B singers because after country and pop and rock soul music is the biggest selling genre of music today. But when Carrie Underwood won Season 4 of American Idol they started focusing more on rock and country artists and that's why Bo Bice sold many copies of his debut album. But when Taylor Hicks won Season 5 that's when American Idol started going downhill and the singers were being overpromoted by their label. And now the only thing you hear about American Idol right now are the alums like Haley Reinhart who performed on Jeff Goldblum's jazz album and Adam Lambert who is a successful rock singer. But if American Idol has a spin-off show called American Idol Country or American Idol Jazz it would be huge Bestie TMC 06-05-2023, 11:19 PM FWIRq9WKLcM |
