OMG !! Wow , I just got a really cool forgotten memory ! :eek::)I was just watching That girl, a New Years eve episode ! Ann and Don planned on spending a quiet romantic New years eve alone , when her parents and lots of other people suddenly showed up !

Anyway here is the memory ! They ran out of food because of all the people , so Ann made " Crispins" ( I think that was what she called them)? Peanut butter on cornflakes and served them like hors d'oeuvres ! As a little girl watching this ep.with my Sister we thought that was cool and we decided to try that ! :D I had forgotten about it till I just saw that scene and it totally came back to me ! :):eek:

Sweet memory of her and I putting peanut butter on corn flakes ! They were pretty good, but lots of the corn flakes crumbled and we never did it again. Peanut butter on saltines or bread was just as good but we wanted to be like Ann Marie !! :):D

It was so funny and cool that scene brought the memory back ! :)

This episode was just on Antenna again right now I figured I'd bump the thread up!! Nobody commented before on it,:confused: thought I'd give it another go! :)

She probably didn't keep much food in her apartment so coming up with Crispins was a good idea. I'd hate to know I had to come up with snacks for a bunch of people on the spur of the moment.

I started watching the That Girl series over again a few months ago, watching DVDs in order not dreaded TV scheduling. This new year's episode is one I watch only at new year's time.

This is also the funny one where a guy is dancing on a table with a lampshade on and Don & Ann get mad and tell the guy to get down and he takes off the lampshade and there's Lou. It was funny since he's usually the straight one.

But this episode is a classic example of the main characters in a show suddenly incapable of uttering one simple word, NO. Ann lets every one and their cousin into her pad, never ever simply saying no and keeping the door shut. She & Don supposedly wanted a new years alone with each other yet they never told anybody they couldn't come in.

This happens over and over on many different sitcoms where the whole problem in the show could have been solved with a simple little "no". Bob Newhart Show, Ozzie & Harriet, countless others all simply can't say "no". Instead everyone seems to be a jellyfish and only stutters and hems and haws while they let whatever big mouth it is run in and take over. I guess if these saps could say no there would be no story.:happyface

One thing always puzzled me about this episode.....There was no Christmas tree or any Christmas decorations for that matter. Did Ann take everything down early or was she Jewish

That is funny because I was just thinking this the other day watching That Girl ! I kinda think, yes Ann was supposed to be Jewish in the show ! ;) Mr. Marie seemed Jewish ( I mean that in a good way, not being Anti Semetic at all, and I think the actor who played him was Jewish ) and Ted Bessell I think was Jewish ? ;)

I love Jewish men, many of them are really good looking and their wit , sence of humor and intelligence is really cool !! :)

Remember That Girl did 2 different Christmas episodes and in both of them her parents were also celebrating Christmas. My 3 Sons never did a Christmas show, does this mean Steve was Jewish? Sometimes we can overthink these TV shows which were meant for fun and entertainment. Thankfully these were the days when TV shows didn't preach to what modern day (1970's and beyond) TV considers the "great unwashed".

One reason I like vintage cartoons made before 1970 they were all just plain entertaining. Funny ones were funny and didn't teach "lessons" and action cartoons like Superman of the '60's didn't preach lib lessons in every toon like "Superfriends" later did, the '60's Supermans were all just great action stories with bad guys and good guys.

Think of that, in those days there was actually something called right and wrong. Boy were they backward.:rolleyes::crazy:

Yeah, I do remember That girl Christmas eps.now that you mention it ! ;) Back in those days before everything was politicaly correct it wasn't mentioned what religion people were and Christmas was called Christmas , not " The Holidays " ! :D

But I still think the Marie's were supposed to be Jewish if that makes sense ? :)

I've never tried cornflakes and peanut butter but occasionally for breakfast I toast two english muffins and spread some peanut butter and jelly on them, along with a tall glass of cold milk. A tasty way to get the day started. :)

I believe that I read that Ted Bessell studied for the priesthood.
