View Full Version : Whatever Happened to Gary Sandy - Andy Travis on WKRP in Cincinnati TMC 10-17-2020, 09:17 PM ObCT6UoJ4Mo TMC 12-07-2021, 06:55 AM Why is Gary Sandy not acting? What are the nine principals of post-WKRP in Cincinnati life after actor? (https://www.quora.com/Why-is-Gary-Sandy-not-acting-What-are-the-nine-principals-of-post-WKRP-in-Cincinnati-life-after-actor/answer/Jon-Mixon-1) Gary Sandy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Sandy), although a handsome man, really never seems to have made an impression on television productions or feature film productions even though he was a stage-trained actor and is apparently quite good. He has scuffled along in the decades since the program which for him was his most notable role. He doesn’t seem to have either wanted a career in episodic television, or he doesn’t seem to have been successful in crafting one for himself. Given that he is now 76, it’s a virtual certainty that his entire career will be summed up as “the guy who used to be on WKRP in Cincinnati.” PracTz 12-07-2021, 12:48 PM The irony is that the whole opening theme song (if not the whole show) was supposed to answer the question of 'whatever happened to' [his character]! And there WAS an episode in which Andy's pre-WKRP flame showed up and she evidently was supposed to have been the 'inspiration' for the song! Yong Fang 06-16-2022, 09:34 AM I always thought the song was about Johnny, although him and Andy has in their careers been moved around from place to place and that is the industry of radio and television broadcasting. I have never seen him in anything else besides WKRP. He deserved a better career. But I don’t know him and he probably got a second career doing something else. He isn’t someone living in a tent under a bridge, he did other things. He did Broadway and off Broadway stuff. Being on a successful TV show brings other offers. Sandy is doing fine and better off than most of us. TMC 08-27-2022, 12:52 AM I wonder why Gary Sandy didn't come back for at least a guest spot as Andy Travis on The New WKRP in Cincinnati (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Series/TheNewWKRPInCincinnati)? He and Jan Smithers (Bailey Quarters) were the only principal cast members from the original series to not make an appearance in the sequel TV series. And in the case of Jan Smithers, she for all intent and purposes, retired from show business around the time that she married James Brolin in 1986. So it would've been highly doubtful that she would've been back anyway. |
