‘Home Improvement’ actor Zachery Ty Bryan arrested, faces charges of strangulation, assault

EUGENE, ORE — Zachery Ty Bryan, the actor who played the oldest son on the long-running 1990s sit-com “Home Improvement” was arrested in Oregon and faces charges of strangulation and assault.
The Eugene Police Department said officers were dispatched to a North Eugene apartment Friday night on a report of a physical dispute. They found Bryan, 39, sitting outside and his girlfriend, 27, at a neighboring apartment.

Bryan reportedly assaulted the victim, impeded her breathing, and took her phone away when she tried to call 911, police said. The victim declined medical assistance.

Bryan was booked into Lane County jail after 1 a.m. Saturday.

A message left with a possible agent for Bryan was not immediately returned. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.

Gee, Mr. Bryan announced he was separating from his wife after 14 years of marriage on October 1st and now has been arrested for allegedly strangling his girlfriend on Friday, October 16. Either he met and hooked up with her FAST or they'd been seeing each other from before the separation announcement. Regardless, it doesn't seem to have been the most positive bond said girlfriend could have gotten into (and I hope she's going to be okay).

I also hope that he treated his now-estranged wife and mother of their children better down the years than how his girlfriend has claimed he treated her!

Apparently he's still working in the business, just on the production side. He's produced several projects since he quit acting 11 years ago, and has one project in post production now.

^^^ Thanks for pointing that out. I will admit that I don't think about that part of the field enough. I wonder if his making an appearance on Last Man Standing is possible since that show is going into its final season. I loved Patricia Richardson's (Jill) first appearance on the show because it led to the only thing that could be done where Earl Hindman (Wilson) was concerned.

I never knew he is an alcoholic, that explains it

While I hope Mr. Bryan gets justice meted (if he did what he was accused of) and then the necessary help to get and stay sober, I'm far more concerned with the hope that his girlfriend, estranged wife and offspring will be okay since, if what he was accused of actually happened as reported, THEY are the ones who would have been impacted by Mr. Bryan's alleged actions (especially the girlfriend who could have been seriously injured or killed if he attempted to strangle her) rather than Mr. Bryan in any way being a victim.

FWIW, I have no real interest in him returning before the camera. Even during 'Home Improvement', he was a rather blah and bland performer whose character Brad was, at best, a straight man foil to Tim, Randy and sometimes Jill but otherwise was no barrel of laughs.

Zachery's last acting credit as an actor was in the 2009 television movie called Thor: Hammer Of The Gods and his most recent credits as a producer are Warning (which has already been completed) and Finding 52 (which is currently in post production).

Home Improvement's Zachery Ty Bryan released from jail

Bryan was released late Saturday night on $8,500 cash bail after he was arrested Friday night in Eugene, Oregon for allegedly trying to strangle his girlfriend.

Zachery has also been issued a no-contact order -- typical after a domestic violence arrest -- so he's required to stay away from the alleged victim and can't contact her in any way.

Zachery's next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, but the D.A. is still deciding whether to charge him.

Zachery Ty Bryan has been charged with two felonies after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend.

The Lane County District Attorney confirmed to Page Six that the “Home Improvement” star, 39, was arraigned Friday morning on two counts of menacing, two counts of assault in the fourth degree, coercion, felony strangulation, harassment and interfering with making a report after allegedly strangling his girlfriend at home in Eugene, Oregon. He is currently out on bail.

Bryan’s next court date is set for Nov. 30.

According to police documents obtained by TMZ (https://www.tmz.com/2020/10/23/zachery-ty-bryan-home-improvement-charged-felony-domestic-violence-arrest/), Bryan woke up, pulled her by her hair and started beating her while shouting obscenities over missing cell phone chargers. She claimed Bryan became abusive toward her last month but it boiled over last Friday when he allegedly choked her to the point that she thought she would suffocate. She also claimed he put his knee on her neck.

She eventually managed to break away and call 911.

Bryan is barred from making any contact with the victim.

^^^ Thanks for the news. What I'd like to know is how guilty is he exactly if he is guilty at all? Because of those in Hollywood who truly are guilty of whatever wrong it is that they become known for, all that them people do is place a target sticker on the back of everyone else who is in front of the camera. I wouldn't be surprised if he was told that the battle would've been harder to win if he had pleaded innocent.

^^^ Thanks for the news. If anything, I feel for Zachary Ty because it looks like the only intention that the authority people had where he was concerned was burying him alive to where he felt that he had no other choice but to surrender in some way and in my opinion, that is not fair. If anything, they only did to him what they did to him because they knew that they could get away with it. To me, the only thing that he did wrong was stay with the girl who started the whole mess.

Eugene PD tells TMZ that the 'Home Improvement' star was arrested Friday for felony assault, in violation of the Abuse Prevention Act. That's when someone is accused of attacking somebody else who'd previously been granted a restraining order in relation to DV.

Unfortunately, this appears to be a bit of a repeat of what happened 3 years ago in the same town -- at least that's what it sounds like based on what cops say. We're told police got a call for a reported physical dispute between a male and female at a Eugene residence.

When they arrived, we're told Zach was long gone ... but they eventually tracked him down and took him to jail, where he was booked ... and where he currently remains in custody.

The details of the latest alleged incident remain unclear for now ... but remember, back in 2020 -- Zach was also arrested for 4th-degree assault ... in addition to strangulation and interfering with making a report. At the time, he was accused of roughing up his then-girlfriend.

In the end, he ended up pleading guilty to two lesser charges ... misdemeanor menacing, and misdemeanor assault. He's also publicly said the incident was blown out of proportion.

Since then, Zach actually ended up getting engaged to the woman he was accused of attacking in 2020. Unclear if this is tied to that same woman -- but all signs point to it being her. BTW, they share children together, it seems ... and there's more on the way, per reports.
