Kate Mulgrew to Reprise Iconic Role of Captain Janeway on Nickelodeon’s "Star Trek: Prodigy"

Kate Mulgrew, who played Captain Kathryn Janeway for 170 episodes on "Star Trek: Voyager", will be reprising that character on Nickelodeon and CBS Studios’ new animated series "Star Trek: Prodigy".

The surprise announcement was made today at the end of the Star Trek Universe New York Comic-Con virtual panel. More casting news will be revealed in the next few months. The CG-animated series will air on Nick next year.



Kate Mulgrew beamed, “I have invested every scintilla of my being in Captain Janeway, and I can’t wait to endow her with nuance that I never did before in Star Trek: Prodigy. How thrilling to be able to introduce to these young minds an idea that has elevated the world for decades.

To be at the helm again is going to be deeply gratifying in a new way for me.”

Paramount+'s First Contact Day event revealed the animated version of Star Trek: Voyager's Janeway. "Doesn't she look absolutely fantastic?" tweeted Mulgrew (https://twitter.com/TheKateMulgrew/status/1379186115563913217). "A huge thanks to the #StarTrekProdigy team for bringing this next iteration of Captain Janeway to life. An honor to be back among my Trek family with a new show targeted at the next, next generation!"

To introduce the world of "Star Trek" to a new generation of Trekkies, "Star Trek: Prodigy" enlisted the help of 24th century Starfleet officer Kathryn Janeway and original actress Kate Mulgrew.

“I am delighted to be back playing her, I love her. When a character defines a part of you life, you are in turn deeply grateful, which I am,” Mulgrew said during Paramount+’s TCA presentation on Tuesday. “She has never left me and I am thrileld to be back and to be introducing this to children.”
