My friend and I were discussing the shows in the 60's that loved to use the split screen gimmick so actors or actresses could play two parts at the same time. I guess they loved it so much because it was probably the most clever special effect they had at the time.
Shows like "Gilligan's Island," "I Dream Of Jeanie," "Bewitched," and "The Brady Bunch" did these episodes many times.
Which show had your favorite split screen episode?
In an episode of "Alice" Vera had a mean landlady named Mrs. Walton. The funny thing is, is that Linda Lavin, who played the title character on the show, played Mrs. Walton! And it's funny because if I remember correctly, Alice and Mrs. W, had an argument! Another show to do that is my #1 fave soap opera, All My Children. David Canary plays the scheming conniving Adam Chandler and his nice, friendly brother Stuart.

"Jeannie or the Tiger", "Tony's Wife", "Have You Ever Had a Genie Hate You?", "Operation:First Couple On the Moon", "How to Marry an Astronaut", "Nobody Loves a Fat Astronaut", "Jeannie-Go-Round", and "My Sister, the Homewrecker" are the episodes in which split screen was used for Ms.Eden for playing Jeannie and Jeannie's sister.
"Jeannie and the Wild Pipchicks", and "Is There a Docter In the House?" are the episodes in which split screen was used for Ms.Eden for playing Jeannie and Jeannie's mother.
"Too Many Tonys", and "My Double Crossing Master" are the episodes in which split screen was used for Mr.Hagman for playing in "Too Many Tonys" Romantic Tony and Maj. Nelson and in "My Double Crossing Master" Dr. Tiffian-Smythe and Maj.Nelson.
My favorite out of all of these is "Jeannie or the Tiger" they use a lot of split screen in this episode.:happyface
I always liked the episodes where Tony got to play another character. He always had to play it straight as Maj. Nelson, so it was fun to be extra silly once in a while.

What about that one...forgot the name...where Tony dressed up as that British psychiatrist? That was pretty cool.

I think my favorite split screens were used in 'My Favorite Martian'. I remember the episode where one of Martin's inventions split him in half 3 times. One Martin would say 'yes' to everything. One Martin would be annoying and say 'no' to everything and then the other Martin would be undecisive on every matter.
Another MFM split screen I enjoyed was when another one of Martin's inventions split Tim into 2 sides. One was the ordinary Tim, and the other Tim was set out to write a story over Martin and the fact that he was a martian.

Patty Duke Show used the split screen and some episodes of My Three Sons used it when Fred MacMurray played two roles.
That's right. Fred MacMurry played Steve's cousin Fergus from Scotland for a season.
I loved the episode of "Brady Bunch" where Florence Hendercon and Robert Reed played their elderly Grandparents, who hated each other, but decided to elope at the end of the show.
There was the Diff'rent Strokes episode The Van Drummonds. Dana Plato played Hans in a dual role.
