View Full Version : Haunt
cfr1970 10-05-2020, 10:05 PM After a pretty slow start for the first hour, things picked up quickly and the killing started. It was good and I could see a sequel for this happening.
When they all saw the girl get killed when they first entered the haunted house, I would think they'd all logically assume it was part of the show. They all too quickly acted like they were in danger and the killing was real. That's just a small nit pick I have with it.
As soon as the poker was stuck into the girl's head the lights went out and they couldn't see any more---I would've just thought "Oh cool! A girl got killed!" and think it was part of the haunted fun.
I think one of them should've been killed in front of them to make them see it was all real and they were in danger.
Aside from that, the killers were creepy as hell and scary. I didn't care for the lead girl's backstory and didn't get how it fit into anything else. They could've dropped that whole thing imo.
The part that got me most was when the lead girl killed her friend thinking she was one of the killers. OMG...and I had JUST said to myself "Where did the black girl go?" because we haven't seen her for a while up to that point.
Then bam...she gets impaled with a pitchfork! It was quite a shock and I love when you don't see a kill like that coming. She felt so bad killing her friend too.
The ending had me scratching my head. The lead girl knew there was killer left that would come to her house? She rigged it like she was expecting him, but how would she know there was one alive and would come for her?!
Then she's like "Take off your mask!", shoots him and it's over. WTH?!
It was the other creepy one that told her to take off her mask when he was going to kill her earlier....this was a different one so saying "Take off your mask" made no sense since it wasn't the same guy who wanted to take her mask off.
I'd like to see a sequel done a little better. This was good, but I think there's much better possibilities how to play this kind of concept out. Hopefully there's another one coming down the pike.
It was a good 90 minutes spent! :)
Torgo 10-05-2020, 10:52 PM I've said before, but I'm a sucker for horror films set at Halloween attractions, really liked Haunt, also enjoyed Hell Fest, and the more recent Fear PHarm.
One of the earlier films I know of with this setting is from 1991 titled Scary Movie (not to be confused with the comedy franchise), John Hawkes is the main reason to watch it.

Hell Fest looks good. I read the description on Amazon just now and I like the plot of a serial killer at a horror themed amusement park. I'm always wary of playing trailers because they reveal too much---so i'll just ask here---is it also a Halloween themed film? It costs $3.99 to rent but looks worth it.
Fear Pharm costs the same but is a little lower rated...is that Halloween themed too? It says it takes place in a haunted corn maze.
The 1991 Scary Movie is free on Tubi so I threw it into my queue and will check that out this week.
Which would you recommend if I only could pick one to watch? I'm leaning towards Hell Fest. I may watch that one tomorrow.

I think she knew because they had their personal information on those forms they filled out before entering. It's been a while since I seen it, but I think she knew there was one left and assumed he'd be after her. That's why she rigged her house waiting for him to come. I like the ending. I also hope there's a sequel. It was so creepy. It needs to be told again with a new story.

There were so many of these killers that I lost track of them and it seemed a new one kept popping up out of nowhere. So I guess it's logical she would think there were some left that would come get her.
I'm debating between Hell Fest & Fear Pharm for tonight. Since they both cost $4 to rent, I can only choose one since I know from experience that these charges can rack up quickly )
If I had to choose one which would you recommend? I'm leaning towards Hell Fest.

I haven't seen Hell Fest. I've seen Fear PHarm so after you see Hell Fest, I definitely recommend still seeing that one. It's worth it. It's so twisted too. I'll look for Hell Fest and add that to my list of movies to watch this week. I wanna do the Joy Ride series today. I enjoy rewatching those.

I'll actually get to watch both now. On Amazon, I can watch Hell Fest free with a Showtime 7 day trial. So i'll sign up for it today and cancel in 6 days.
And tomorrow i'll see Fear Pharm for $3.99 on Amazon...it's nowhere available for free unfortunately.
I remember the Joy Ride films....i'd like to watch those again too. Will check if it's on Tubi and throw it in my list. I remember the first one was good...I forgot about the others though.
cfr1970 10-06-2020, 10:05 PM Hell Fest was good and worth a watch. I love the horror amusement park concept and enjoyed it right up to a certain point towards the end that took me right out of the movie and everything fell apart imo. But I won't say more! :nonono:
Even with that gigantic annoyance, i'd still recommend seeing it. If you sign up for Showtime 7 day trial, you can see it for free.
Tomorrow i'll give Fear Pharm a watch!
cfr1970 10-07-2020, 12:44 AM There's a bunch of horrors on Showtime I want to squeeze in during my 7 day trial. They also have all 3 of the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" films too.
Here's the ones I want to check out. If anyone's seen them feel free to let me know which are worthwhile and which are the stinkers.
1. Fright Night (2011)
2. The Final Wish (2019)
3. Level 16 (2019)
4. The Wind (2019)
5. Dead Night (2018)
6. Candy Corn (2019 <Halloween themed horror>
7. Lifechanger (2019)
8. The Young Cannibals (2019)
9. Rabid (2019)
Christopher 10-07-2020, 06:42 PM Tomorrow i'll give Fear Pharm a watch!
Shortly after the closing credits start, there's another scene. I always fast forward the closing credits to make sure there's nothing else. I don't know if you do this so I wanted to let you know. Enjoy Fear PHarm. I thought it was pretty good

I think this is the first horror i've seen where the final girl kills herself to escape the killers.
As soon as she cut her throat in the front I was thinking she missed the jugular which would've done her in within seconds, so the scene after the credits wasn't too surprising. Poor girl....but I think she'd die real quick knowing the situation she was in at that point.
I believe we're capable of willing ourselves to die when in a dead end situation like that so in my mind she escaped that psycho bitch as soon as she went back in the coma.
I hated that psycho chick too and was really hoping for a scene where she got what was coming to her. Too bad she lived. Hell---all the killers lived except one which kind of took a little away from it. I like when we see the tables turned on the killers.
The one kill I absolutely loved was Rustin....Oh man did that kid annoy the hell out of me throughout the movie and I couldn't wait for his turn to come.
And even dying he cracks jokes, tells his sister she's fat and that he hates her. WTF?! What a total ass right to the end! The gore on his kill was so fake looking I laughed hysterically at the blood shooting out of his missing arm.
Overall I liked it even though these were the stupidest kids i've seen in a horror flick in a while. After telling his friends what a "bad place" it was and what happened there....they all jump like puppies at the people taking them to a special "vip maze" just for them. Red flags would've went up for anyone with half a brain don't you think?!
It was still good and looks set up for a sequel where hopefully the psycho bitch gets it.
Next for tonight is a 2016 film on Shudder called "We Go On". Looks good...I just read the synopsis which i'll paste below. (I stay away from trailers)--
"A man offers a reward to anyone who can prove there is an afterlife. He embarks on an adventure through Los Angeles to meet with three viable candidates, and he has no idea he is about to experience an unthinkable nightmare."
EDIT: No captions for "We Go On" (BOO!)....So switched to "Monster Party" instead.
cfr1970 10-08-2020, 12:57 AM "Monster Party" was insane....After a slow start things got intense quickly and didn't let up. I'm glad I wound up watching this movie over the other one. Lots of great gore too. Definitely recommended!!

9. Rabid (2019)
Candy Corn was disappointing.
Rabid was way more fun than I thought it would be, one of the better recent remakes.
I liked the Fright Night remake, still haven't seen the sequel to the remake. Love the original, and its sequel is really good.

Watched Rabid tonight. I go into these movies blind so I had no idea where it was going. At first I thought it was going to be about her disfigurement driving her insane to murder, then I thought it was turning into a vampire movie....then a zombie movie....then a virus outbreak movie.
A lot was going on here and it while ok, it could've been trimmed a bit to make the story tighter. The ending was really messed up and I felt bad for the poor woman. Imagine having to live that existence with no way out....forever and ever.
I never saw the original Fright Night....would viewers not really into vampire films still like it and the remake? (i've still never seen that Twlight series) For some reason vampires never scared me.
cfr1970 10-10-2020, 01:56 AM Watched "Lifechanger" tonight from my list above and thought it could've been much better and the ending pretty much rendered everything that happened through the whole movie moot...so why bother?! Ugh. Had so much potential to be a riveting story.
Then I watched another stinker titled "Ruin Me" on Shudder. Really bad and just plain dumb. I feel I wasted 90 minutes watching that crap.
