Howard is set up with the beautiful Miss Fairchild. He replies, "a date?" He's single and Andy brings it up, and this is the first time he's thought of her in that context? Look at her! Theme is abandoned later when he's aggressive with the again beautiful Millie (Arlene Galonka).

Andy and Barney bring up Goober dating to get rid of him horning in on their dates, and again he's fascinated by the thought that's never crossed his mind proclaiming, "a girl!"

Same with Gomer. Setting him up with Thelma Lou's cousin. He's in total awe of the date idea that's new to him. "Shazam!"

Unrealistic yes. Works brilliantly each time. 3 of my favorite episodes. The writers used the brain dead ploy with a lot of the male actors. Then there weren't any limits to what funny situations they could be put in.

Gomer's dancing in that episode has always tickled me. I wonder if it came naturally, or if it was heavily coached/choreographed?

I think it came naturally. He did something similar in an episode of Gomer Pyle.
