When the driver stopped somewhere, the two hitchhikers decided to get away from him and used a pay phone to call law enforcement.

Who else remembers this segment?

That was the Bill Henderson case

They ended up getting the guy in 2006

I didnt see another thread for the Bill Henderson case, so my apologies if I missed it. I wanted to add that it was very admirable of those two hitchhikers to try, not once, but twice, to get Bill's killer detained at the very least for the stolen truck. I've always wondered what it was that Lawrence Tutt (the killer) was saying or doing inside the truck that made the hitchhikers know something was amiss.

Sidenote: I felt terrible for Bill's son, Garry. He was so upset, and right fully so, that you could barely understand what he was saying at times throughout the segment.

I remember this case for the creepy composite of Tutt during the original segment (it's not in the YouTube FilmRise version). Definitely right up there in the scariest composites of UM.

But rewatching the segment, I got infuriated by the police, who didn't have the report of the stolen vehicle because Henderson hadn't been found dead yet. I know legally there was probably nothing they could do if the car wasn't reported stolen, but it annoys me. These hitchhikers were freaked out by this guy and they really put themselves out there. Thankfully, they saw the original broadcast and called in with details that led to Tutt.
