LucyFan 07-03-2002, 01:40 AM I think All in the Family was . . . but I'm not sure. Sean Snow 07-03-2002, 11:49 AM Hmmm I think Julia (1968-1971) may have been it. Impressions 07-03-2002, 12:12 PM It had to probably be Amos 'n Andy they started with their own radio show and worked their way to a tv show. I don't think Amos 'n Andy ever dealt with the topic of racisim. JT 07-03-2002, 04:25 PM I'd have to say Julia too. I remember in the Inside TVLand: African Americans in Comedy special they had a clip of Corey (Julia's son) asking his mother what prejudice was, and she explained the dumbness of predjudice. Tiger32 07-03-2002, 09:56 PM Yes, I agree that Julia was the first to address racism, but Archie Bunker was the one who showed America just how ugly racism really was. Norman Lear was not afraid to tackle subjects such as racism, sexism and religious bigotry. And America benifited greatly from his honest approach to these social ills of society. drummond jackson 07-04-2002, 01:42 AM Yes it was Julia, but All in the Family dealt with it on a reg basis and was prob better at showing it in a realistic light. Oh,and Amos and Andy never dealt with racism. It percipitated tired stereotypes and was/is highly offensive to most black people. I get tired of hearing how Norman Lear changed tv with All in the Family. First of All ,All in the Family was not the first show to show how ugly racisim is, AITF was based on a british sitcom, so whoever created that sitcom you need to give credit to. |
