Since we were talking about this in another topic, can you explain why the school had a new headmaster every year? We have:

1. Mr. Crocker
2. Mr. Bradley
3. Mr. Harris
4. Mr. Parker
5. Mr. Morehead
6. Blair

These are the headmasters that appeared on screen, so we don't know if there were other people. I remember Kimberly said Crocker was new, so there was another headmaster before him.

We know Mr. Morehead quit and Blair sold the school. Probably they sent Crocker away because he was unstable and bossy and Bradley due to the Group :lol:

What do you think?

Yes, Crocker was new in May 1979, but was already gone by August 1979.

Mr. Parker was the longest-running headmaster, running the school for some amount of time that was over two years.

I don't know that Mr. Bradley was fired because of "The Group", but I think you are right about Mr. Crocker being unstable.

I prefer to think Mr. Bradley realized he worked better with boys, and returned to Bates Academy (he says he worked at a boys' school before working at Eastland).

Mr. Crocker likely didn't find much more headmaster work after spending some time in the straightjacket ward at the local hospital. ;)

Crocker was a crackpot.

Bradley was fired for being too chummy with those particular seven girls. Weirdo!

Harris was a buffoon.

Crocker was really crazy. I'm glad they replaced him after the pilot

Mr. Bradley first said he came from a public school Then a few weeks later, he came from a boys school. The show had lots of inconsistencies in continuity through out the series.

Reasons for so many Headmasters.

Mr. Crocker was too cartoony of a character.
John Lawlor was fired along with the lost girls after the first season.
Mr. Harris was just mentioned in a few episodes and only shown in one. Not sure why he wasn't retained after the second season.
Mr. Parker was the most realistic acting headmaster in the show.

Am i the only one who actually liked THE CROCK????
On the contrary of all of you guys, i found MR CROCKER hilarious and quite a good match for MRS G: it was amazingly funny the way they clashed on the pilot 'The girls school', and i think he delivered a great performance!!!!

PS: what's wrong in having a crazy/eccentric headmaster?

Well... It didn't feel very realistic. An administrator like him, who heavily plagiarizes, wouldn't last long in a real US school. Schools don't like plagiarism, and I suspect a prestigious school like Eastland would frown on having an administrator who ripped off Shakespeare.

Especially when they had an episode about plagiarism in Season 1.

Yeah, Mr. Parker felt like the only real headmaster. The others were a little too wacky or didn't have the professionalism I would expect from a headmaster.

Yeah, Mr. Parker was definitely the consummate professional... well, at least until Season 5, when he became difficult and demanding to Mrs. G.

I don't agree with any of you this time: MR BRADLEY was a lot warmer to me and caring to the girls, whereas MR PARKER was kind of cold and distant!!!!

It's my opinion anyway....

But the question is: should the headmaster be paying so much attention to seven specific girls? Doesn't he have a school to run? What is he doing hanging out in their dorm every week? Sure, he might teach them some classes in an actual classroom, but what is he doing searching their bedrooms (in "Dope" and in "The Return of Mr. Garrett")? What is doing, planning to go up to Sue Ann's room in "Dieting"? Why does he keep insisting on going up to their rooms? Isn't that what the housemother is for? Why even have a housemother, if the headmaster's the one expected to go up to the girls' rooms and lay down the law?

Mr. Parker maintains a professional distance: he knows their names, he's happy to talk with them, but he's not following them up to their bedrooms.

I agree 100%. Mr. Bradley was way too close to the girls. So close that Blair developed a crush on him. That shouldn't have happened.

I never saw it quite that way, but you're right Retro: MR BRADLEY was always meddling into the girl's lives, when it should have only being MRS G (being their housemother), it's just that to me the set on season 1 feels so homey, and i had never seen a school so cozy, life 'Eastland'..

In Mr. Parker, we see what headmasters really do. He is doing budgets when he is on screen. When he is off screen, he is doing what real headmasters do. Recruit students, smoozes up to alumni and the community for money, making sure the school is a run oiled machine.

Yes, Mr. Bradley was like the Barney Fife of headmasters. He was a bumbling idiot and so unprofessional. I mean, he didn’t feel comfortable entering the living room with the girls present and then in “Like Mother, Like Daughter,” he made an inappropriate joke about the girls keeping their clothes on, and then flirted with Blair’s mother. He acted like a teenage boy. How he was ever hired is beyond me.

Actually, MR BRADLEY was my favourite headmaster: i found him rather amusing (not idiot like you said) and very caring towards the girls, and i don't think it was that bad if he flirted with BLAIR's mother (he can't help it if he's over the moon for a beautiful woman lol!).
As for being unprofessional, i wish there were more schools with headmasters like him: he was not only a mentor to those girls, but also a friend.
MR PARKER on the other hand was a bit distant (although funny too i have to admit) and dry.

We all have our opinions though.....
