View Full Version : NBC - "Be There!" montage promo (1983)
'80sSitcoms 09-14-2020, 11:25 PM So I stumbled upon this at YouTube. How cool is this?? It features clips and characters from all kinds of NBC shows in this promo for NBC's '83-'84 season, including Mrs. Garrett and her cafeteria gang in bits of don't-blink-or-you'll-miss-it new footage (FOL's parent show DS is featured several times too, and Lorsie, there's a bit of "Mama's Family" too!)
Check it out! What cozy nostalgia that networks used to do things like this. 2 full minutes to excite you over a networks upcoming entire TV season. It really made you feel like America was one big TV-loving family.
*SPOILER PHOTOS* in next post--if you wanna be surprised at the FOL stuff in it, watch this vid first. :)

RetroGuy2000 09-15-2020, 02:26 AM Nice screencaps! I remember seeing this video when going through all the seasons of NBC's season premiere ad campaigns, a few years back. They'd show these campaigns with the stars of all the hit shows, but they didn't bother to show FOL for 1979; the show was clearly far, far down the list of priorities.
It's kinda funny that for the 1983-1984 season, they used a shot of the girls and Mrs. Garrett in the Eastland cafeteria, since so little of that season actually takes place there. It kinda feels like false advertising: "Be there! At Eastland! Where we won't actually be!"
Still, these little clips are awesome.

Hahaha that is quite a cake!
FOL-FAN-ITA 09-15-2020, 09:41 AM Nice photos, 80s! I always loved this promo!
valentina warner 09-15-2020, 03:02 PM Great job 80s!!!!
That was definitely season 4 (my favourite of the cafeteria years) and on the video MICHAEL J. FOX appeared too, along so many other familiar faces!!!!
'80sSitcoms 09-15-2020, 05:47 PM What?? TWO of you have seen this already???
Well, so much for my big discovery!
And Retro, I'm surprised you think the cafeteria is used so little in season 4. Just glancing through the season 4 guide shows that episodes use it a lot. Now, season 5, there is a definite reduction. ';) Perhaps the only one that doesn't is "Take My Finals Please!" I did notice though that the ONE clip of the show the included in the "Be There" montage was from the episode that should have been scrapped---"B*st S*st*r"! :nonono:
What a WONDERFUL cake!! But good thing Mrs. Garrett didn't ask Cindy to bring it out, or else they'd all still be there waiting!

Thank you 80s that's what i also thought!!!!
In season 4, the cafeteria is used a lot: in fact, it is in all the earlier seasons, and you can see how tight the gang is by then!!!!! (forever MRS G and her 4 girls!!!!)

But the 1983-1984 season is Season 5 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Facts_of_Life_episodes#Season_5_(1983%E2%80%9384)), '80s! "What have you been smokin'?!"
That's why, in this promo, Jo and Blair aren't wearing their Eastland uniforms: they already graduated. That's why it's weird they show the Cafeteria throughout the promo.

 Especially since Cindy was gone by then!
tvvideotrader 09-17-2020, 12:45 PM I assume this was shot at the end of the previous season when Eastland was still the main setting. The Edna's Edibles set hadn't been built yet and wasn't introduced until the beginning of season 5.

Could be. I think it's rare to shoot promos for a new season during the old season, but this production team did some strange things through the years.
(BTW, welcome to this sub-forum!)

Impressions 09-18-2020, 09:56 PM I loved this promo. Sure, it was cheesy AF, but the good kinda nostalgia cheese that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

It's definitely a product of its era. Pure '80s cheese.
(Speaking of cheese, where's Cindy with that cheese dip...?)
80s Dude 09-19-2020, 08:22 AM NBC certainly made quite a large comeback from where they were in 1979-80.
