The reason that we are asking a question without giving an answer is that there is nothing to support that this was not a comedy or sitcom from the creation to the execution of the series all along. (Laugh track included!)

Perhaps the OP could shed some light on why he/she thinks that the BB was to be another type of show or that it somehow turned into a comedy while it was running??

Brady Bunch was always high drama with an occasional chuckle.

The scene with Marcia getting clobbered with football is down right serious. Even if you watch it a hundred times, it's just not funny.

I would say it's primarily a comedy with some real life situations (some serious) to work around, but ya - it's not a Gilligan's Island regarding constant sillyness +-

I did not think that the first episode with Bobbie having to deal with the placement of his late mother's picture a hoot. I felt bad for him.

I thought so !! I knew that Tom Brady was bad news , now there is proof he threw the football at Marcia !! :eek::(

I do not think it was intended to convey these situations or plots as funny in themselves. For comedy, the first episode had a funny scene with the wedding. The Father of the year had Alice attempting to ski that was funny or amusing.

This reminded me that Sherwood Schwartz said that the BB was never intended to be a joke filled show with a high degree of LOL moments. Of course some episodes were funnier than others with some LOL moments.

How about the fact that Carol changed her daughters' original surname upon her remarriage without any discussion depicted much less any reflection by any of the girls re whether they may have wished to have kept it- regardless of why Carol's first marriage ended?

Just dark humor, the way this thread has become !:D I don't think the Brady boys are yucky at all ! I was thinking in terms of how 3 little girls would feel , esp.back in those days, little girls and boys thought of each other as yucky as having " cooties "! So Marcia, Jan & Cindy suddenly having to move in with 3 boys and suddenly become their Sisters , realistically they would see them as yucky boys rather than their Brothers ! ;):(

I do not think that it was that kind of show to go that much in depth about this subject. Back in 1969, blended families were much, much less common and this was the first show to showcase it. It was a simpler time. Sitcoms were not as sophisticated as they are now.

50 years later things are very different now.

No one here is sure if the things you've stated ever since you joined this forum are your true, genuine feelings or not, but I don't think you need to come here if literally the only things you want to post are something that begins with the words "I don't see..." or is among the lings of "I don't think this is a big deal". Oh come now. Certainly you must think the conundrum over a female vs. a male pediatrician is the highest of high dramas.

The show will be airing on the Hallmark Drama network soon, so the OP may have a valid point.

Not only did the show have deep dramatic moments, but it was also really scary: Alice breaking Mike's head, Greg having the goat from The VVitch in his room, Bobby being abducted by aliens, the boys meeting a creepy old man in a cave, Greg's hair turning orange.
