View Full Version : Was the show meant to be a comedy? Tankeryanker 09-12-2020, 02:32 PM or did it evolve into one? MIKEPR 09-12-2020, 04:44 PM Why would you ask such a question? Tankeryanker 09-12-2020, 09:33 PM Why would YOU ask such a question? rcbrad 09-13-2020, 08:15 PM The reason that we are asking a question without giving an answer is that there is nothing to support that this was not a comedy or sitcom from the creation to the execution of the series all along. (Laugh track included!) Perhaps the OP could shed some light on why he/she thinks that the BB was to be another type of show or that it somehow turned into a comedy while it was running?? rusty spike 09-13-2020, 08:38 PM Brady Bunch was always high drama with an occasional chuckle. The scene with Marcia getting clobbered with football is down right serious. Even if you watch it a hundred times, it's just not funny. https://media.giphy.com/media/14rACYMwBmXDqM/giphy.gif Bonniegirl 09-13-2020, 09:15 PM Kitty Carryall missing, Jan losing her locket ,6 kids getting the measles at the same time! This is some serious stuff , nothing funny about all this tragedy ! :( :D:lol: CosmicCharlie 09-15-2020, 08:34 PM Interesting point ... I would say it's primarily a comedy with some real life situations (some serious) to work around, but ya - it's not a Gilligan's Island regarding constant sillyness +- opus 09-16-2020, 09:35 PM The show did eventually evolve into the drama The Bradys, but to be honest, that show was funnier then The Brady Bunch. Tankeryanker 09-20-2020, 05:21 PM I did not think that the first episode with Bobbie having to deal with the placement of his late mother's picture a hoot. I felt bad for him. I did not think when the kids thought one of their parents did not like the new family to be funny at all. Nor did I find the eiposode when Marcia was willing to get into trouble for entering a writing contest regarding her dad to be father of the year particular side busting. I guess I am different than other viewers. pumpkin: Bonniegirl 09-20-2020, 09:35 PM The show did eventually evolve into the drama The Bradys, but to be honest, that show was funnier then The Brady Bunch. Was " The Brady's " the story of Tom Brady and his family ? :p:D:crazy: opus 09-21-2020, 01:46 AM Was " The Brady's " the story of Tom Brady and his family ? :p:D:crazy: See post #5. It was tragic when he smashed Marcia’s face with a football. Bonniegirl 09-21-2020, 02:31 AM See post #5. It was tragic when he smashed Marcia’s face with a football. I thought so !! I knew that Tom Brady was bad news , now there is proof he threw the football at Marcia !!:( rcbrad 09-21-2020, 07:42 PM I did not think that the first episode with Bobbie having to deal with the placement of his late mother's picture a hoot. For comedy, the first episode had a funny scene with the wedding. The Father of the year had Alice attempting to ski that was funny or amusing. This reminded me that Sherwood Schwartz said that the BB was never intended to be a joke filled show with a high degree of LOL moments. Of course some episodes were funnier than others with some LOL moments. PracTz 09-26-2020, 10:41 PM How about the fact that Carol changed her daughters' original surname upon her remarriage without any discussion depicted much less any reflection by any of the girls re whether they may have wished to have kept it- regardless of why Carol's first marriage ended? Yeah and the poor girls being uprooted from their old house and school and having to move in with 3 yucky boys ! Not to mention having to give up their beloved cat Fluffy ! :( Smartboy 09-27-2020, 07:50 AM Yeah and the poor girls being uprooted from their old house and school and having to move in with 3 yucky boys ! Not to mention having to give up their beloved cat Fluffy ! :( Why would you call the boys yucky? Bonniegirl 09-27-2020, 02:09 PM Why would you call the boys yucky? Just dark humor, the way this thread has become !:D I don't think the Brady boys are yucky at all ! I was thinking in terms of how 3 little girls would feel , esp.back in those days, little girls and boys thought of each other as yucky as having " cooties "! So Marcia, Jan & Cindy suddenly having to move in with 3 boys and suddenly become their Sisters , realistically they would see them as yucky boys rather than their Brothers ! ;):( Smartboy 09-27-2020, 05:40 PM Just dark humor, the way this thread has become !:D I don't think the Brady boys are yucky at all ! I do not think that it was that kind of show to go that much in depth about this subject. Back in 1969, blended families were much, much less common and this was the first show to showcase it. It was a simpler time. Sitcoms were not as sophisticated as they are now. 50 years later things are very different now. James28 10-01-2020, 11:56 AM Why would YOU ask such a question? Judging by the tone of most of his posts so far, MIKEPR just wants to be a troll and potentially start fights. And he is never willing to offer any helpful replies to discussions. I don't know why anyone with such an intent would join a forum like this.:( CosmicCharlie 10-01-2020, 02:26 PM LOL -- The Brady Bunch is an American sitcom created by Sherwood Schwartz that aired from September 26, 1969, to March 8, 1974, on ABC. Wiki says it's a Situation COMEDY ! so there's that ... TV Guy 10-01-2020, 02:57 PM Alice was so desperate for a man that she was willing to be taken in by that charlatan Mark Millard, and was hoping he’d propose after one date. SAD! I certainly see no reason to ask questions like that. You know what, MIKEPR? No one here is sure if the things you've stated ever since you joined this forum are your true, genuine feelings or not, but I don't think you need to come here if literally the only things you want to post are something that begins with the words "I don't see..." or is among the lings of "I don't think this is a big deal". The problem with you is what I've already stated earlier. stevea 10-15-2020, 07:23 PM Kitty Carryall missing, Jan losing her locket ,6 kids getting the measles at the same time! This is some serious stuff , nothing funny about all this tragedy ! :( :D:lol: Oh come now. Certainly you must think the conundrum over a female vs. a male pediatrician is the highest of high dramas. Or Jan being allergic to Tiger but they thought it might be Mike. Nothing more serious or thought-provoking than that! (LOL! Just some fun!!) opus 10-15-2020, 10:17 PM The show will be airing on the Hallmark Drama network soon, so the OP may have a valid point. Torgo 10-15-2020, 11:00 PM Not only did the show have deep dramatic moments, but it was also really scary: Alice breaking Mike's head, Greg having the goat from The VVitch in his room, Bobby being abducted by aliens, the boys meeting a creepy old man in a cave, Greg's hair turning orange. CosmicCharlie 10-16-2020, 01:48 PM Interesting that THIS Youtube says the show was presented to Robert Reed as " to be a realistic show" The Tragic Real-Life Story Of The Brady Bunch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOTF6xxmPv8 CosmicCharlie 12-09-2020, 11:44 PM and just today I see the show re-runs featured on "Hallmark DRAMA" go figure ... |
