I recently responded to a request for "The Beat," a series that I pieced together years ago as part of a collection of Lee Tergesen appearances. I wanted to share this information as it appears to be a rare show and others may be looking for it, or there may be better versions in other people's collections that could improve upon this batch.
I hadn't looked at my discs in about 15 years, and I found many surprises, good and bad. Fortunately I was able to repair most of the problems, but several conditions stem from the original source.
Here's a rundown of the episodes I have:
Episode 2
This disc actually starts with about 4 minutes from Episode 1 (don't recall why I don't have the full Ep 1) and then Episode 2 begins. This episode was transferred from a promotional VHS tape for the series. All the following episodes marked as "promotional VHS tape" are the best quality of the batch. (Ep. 2 is also the one that includes the crossover appearance of Richard Belzer as Detective Munch.)
Episode 3
From promotional VHS tape.
Episode 4
From a tape recording from U.S. TV. I don't recall how or where I got this episode, but it's at least a second-generation recording from broadcast TV.
Episode 5
A friend in Brazil taped this off the air, unfortunately in EP speed, so the resolution and the color is dodgy. This holds true for all the episodes from Brazilian TV below. The audio is intact, with Brazilian/Portuguese subtitles. The color shifts to orange or green (appropriately, Mark Ruffalo often has skin tone like the Hulk.) This episode has a minor glitch at about the 29:51-29:52 mark.
