Karens (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_(slang)) are entitled, spoiled rotten, usually suburban upper middle class moms who thinks EVERYBODY was invented to wait on them hand and foot.

Chads (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad_(slang)) are those good looking alpha males that always get all the girls despite treating them like dirt, to the frustration of “nice guys” who are perpetually friend zoned by the same women.

This thread is not funny. Karen is the name of my mother, I resent her name being used in a derogatory manner like it has been so many places this year. It is a horrible trend that never should have been started.

.

Weezy Jefferson
Maude Findlay
Ann Marie (I know this will ruffle some feathers, deal with it)
Man, there are a ton of them in the dramas like Falcon crest and Dynasty, too many to list
Aunt Martha (LITB)
Clara Petrie (Rob's mom)
Margaret Drysdale
Marcy Darcy/Rhodes

When she's not busy subordinating herself to Lucy, Ethel Mertz definitely has that side to her personality

Hating the term " Karen" for a woman who is an entitled b*tch , so I will just use the latter term in my posting , the biggest one of all is Debra Barone from " Everybody loves Raymond " !;)

You really have to look at how Ethel treats people other than the Ricardos.

Other tenants who complain about their heat, or water are always groundless, or outsiders who have been drawn into Lucy's schemes are fools. Ethel has little sympathy for people who fail to "go with the flow". And her contempt for Fred is always just one notch beneath the surface.

And if Weezy is not aloof and arrogant, she is nothing else. She and George deserve each other, IMO.

I imagine that Dick Nixon likely felt persecuted over the abuse of his name too? And just think about all the undeserving Johns out there.
And then there are all the carnival barkers on the midway, looking for their next Mark?

I knew a guy 45 years ago who ran a printing service he named "Flash Printing Service".
And he used to seethe with anger whenever the Rolling Stones song "Jumping Jack Flash" came on the radio.

Personally, I believe that one of the responsibilities of living in a free society is to NOT look for every opportunity to claim we have been offended. I understand that's not a popular view in this day and age where people seek to claim they have been victimized...as an instrument of their own self empowerment. But that's just the way I feel.

Well, I must agree with Catsrule that using these names as deregatory terms is wrong.
But to answer the question of this thread:

Claire Huxtable of "Cosby Show" and Judith Harper of "2 1/2 Men" are "Karens". God, how I hate them both!

Will Smith of "Fresh Prince" and Charlie Harper of "2 1/2 Men" are "Chads".
So needless to say, I would prefer the supposedly less desirable Carlton or Alan with no hesitation.

I don't think Weezie Jefferson was a Karen on AITF or the early seasons of The Jeffersons. But in the last 3 or 4 seasons, Weezie was definitely a Karen.

I have to strongly and completely disagree with including Louise Jefferson in this category. I thought Louise was a caring and likable woman, I always liked her anyways.

This is not completely accurate , a " Karen" a terrible term , a shame for nice women named Karen, but if you must , it is a woman who makes trouble with other people for no reason, calls cops on people before knowing what is going on, asks to speak to the manager when there really isn't a problem , etc. Not just a spoiled , entitled woman ! And a Chad is the Male counterpart, you completely got the description of " A Chad" ( or a Brad , that is the term I heard ) completely wrong !!:rolleyes:

I agree about Weezy not being one, and I'm not sure a prim old lady like Aunt Martha fits it either. I think Maude's daughter Carol would fill the bill. And Mike Stivic might be an example of the male version.

Ann Marie, also not sure about her. Maybe the mod early 70s version from the last season.

I agree the actual names are offensive to people who have or had the real name. Unfortunately these names are burned into pop culture right now. They'll probably fade eventually.

My easy definition for these people are the usually-idealistic millennials who mask-shame people in grocery store parking lots.

,I'm not sure a prim old lady like Aunt Martha fits it either. .

Isn't Aunt Martha's approval constantly held over the boys heads like a carrot on a stick? Presented in a fashion that if said uncompromising approval is not attained, there will be unpleasant consequences? To me that fits the basic proforma.

And, more generally, I don't believe that just because any particular person has an apparent good side, that automatically disqualifies them from the 'Karen' sweepstakes.
I'd surmise that just about all Karens have some people at home that they engage decently. it's the other 90% of us who suffer.

Are Karen's and Chad's the latest 21st century terms that have become the "in" thing to use. Because I have never heard those names
used in that way before. However it is not surprising because the terms and
sayings that have become popular over the last couple of decades are almost all idiotic. No creativity left anywhere anymore.

Yes, Karen is a nice name. It must have started on social media ad gone viral. And I knew knew about Chad until this thread.

Also GJ you have a point about Aunt Martha. But she's not trying to impose her views on the world, just on the Cleavers.

How about the librarian on Married with Children, where Al had that overdue book?

I think that "karen" is a subset of the broader spectrum we commonly call "battle ax", so she should get a defacto nod.

Thank you!!!!

While I do not know anyone personally named Karen, I looked up on Google that there are 1.1 million people with that name and it isn’t right for these people to have to put up with this childish insult using their name. I get angry and indignant everytime someone uses the term(because it could be my name being disparaged and I like my name) but unfortunately it has become part of the lexicon now.

Maybe if more people like us complained about it or people who have the name Karen call bull***** on the term, it might go away, I doubt it though, things the ignorant love rarely goes away.

It seems misguided (to me) to specify a race, why do you suppose they make that distinction?
Is it because whites are a "safe target" for public ridicule, or do you think that there is more involved, such as an editorialization on the white race?

I myself do not like the “Karen” and “Chad” stereotypes either and I think it is overhyped on social media but if I had to choose any “Karen” on a television show, I would have to be Marcy Rhodes D’Arcy from Married With Children. She got SUPER annoying in the last few seasons, especially when NO MA’AM came along. The other day LOGO played the episode where Marcy pickets in the shoe store with a bunch of women with infants just because Al and Griff didn’t allow one costumer to breast feed. I wish I would’ve been there to slap the holy crap out of her.
