View Full Version : I COLORIZED THE THIRD SEASON OPENING!
ThomasE 09-06-2020, 05:16 AM During the pandemic, I have been working on a project to colorize the season three opening of The Patty Duke Show!! I finally completed it!!! If the show did go to color in 1965 like some shows were, this is what it may have looked like. Now, if the show were to be shot in color in 1966 as ABC was mandating for the show to do so, then I can see this color version being used as the opening theme. I did this for fun and entertainment purposes only. If you're a TV geek like me, then you'll hopefully appreciate this. Youtube link below!

I enjoyed viewing this, seeing what the intro might look like in color. The green dress and blue sky are a bit too bright, and the skin tones are still sepia, but this is still GREAT!
What program did you use to add color? Premiere?
ThomasE 09-06-2020, 05:35 AM Well, thanks. I am aware that the colors are a little bright but I had begun establishing them in the frames so I left them the way they were. I may go back and learn how to tone down without having to recolor frame by frame. At times, it was TOUGH trying to match up the skin based on how segments were shot with lighting. I would used them same color on the various shots but the colors were not matching up. It was strange. I used FCPX to do this one. I colored each frame.

I LOVE it! Keep up the great work!
As you know, I love re-editing opening credit sequences, so for me, this is just fun to watch.

For sure. I understand completely. I’m glad that you like it. Trying to color the sky was really tough for me. It was hard to match up since I had those leaves from the tree to work with. So that was spotty. The green dress was a decision I chose because I needed something that would be bright in that shot with the title card opening. The original color that I had made it appear as though it would look a little dull so I wanted to add a little spark. What I am hoping to do is learn how to add another color now that I have the film in motion rather than going back and having to repaint 60 frames. Or I just might go back and choose another color and paint for the heck of it but I will just take my time with it. Matching up the skin color was difficult at times. I’m going to keep practicing. I may do the Donna Reed show next the opening from season eight. I’ll begin working on the very last scene from the last episode but I need to add some extra colors to it. Is the Leslie Gore scene alongside the cast. You pretty much were thinking of some of the same things that I was. I love it and I’m proud of myself for doing it. Not bad for my first time. LOL.

Oh, dude! I totally forgot. I used PhotoPad to add color. I used Final Cut Pro for the editing but for the color of each and every individual frame, I used a software called PhotoPad.
