The second preview for Supermarket Sweep 's revival has aired along with an official debut date. It appears it will make it's debut October 18th so mark your calendars. The preview also gives a sample of what the game will be like and it appears that the new Supermarket Sweep's set looks identical to the UK version's set that was hosted by the late Dale Winton. Also the Supermarket Sweep Bonuses have been removed and replaced by prizes and the awesome top prize of $100,000

Hi, Bestie! You sure are looking forward to SMS!! I wonder if the contestants will have to wear masks? What do you think? They are still going to have the new host, right?

Will Supermarket Sweep be the first game show to graduate to prime time without previously being on a major network(not counting originals)? It started on Lifetime, then Pax, and if I'm correct they tried syndicated reruns.

While the Lifetime and PAX David Ruprecht era are the most known versions from Buzzr airing them, the original version of Supermarket Sweep aired on ABC from 1965-1967 will Bill Malone hosting.

ABC is sure promoting Supermarket Sweep like crazy and it seems that they have counted their blessings and are praying it will be a monster hit because I saw yet another preview of Supermarket Sweep on my morning Youtube routine. This preview is set to the 80's rap classic Push It and shows more of what the new Supermarket Sweep will be like and they appear to have Bonuses like the original one has because one of the contestants on the preview is shown carrying a giant teddy bear. I also think because of this crazy promoting ABC is gonna make Leslie Jones a superstar in her game show hosting debut because she appears a lot in the previews
We shall see once October 18th rolls around

I was able to see parts of the debut episode of Supermarket Sweep's revival on Youtube and let me ask you something? Who on earth thought of reviving Supermarket Sweep in the first place? As Laurel And Hardy used to say "It's another fine mess you gotten us into" And this new Supermarket Sweep is certainly a fine mess itself. Take for instance the new set reminds me of the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market chain and ABC should've hired better set designers to make the set like a supermarket not a Grocery Outlet Bargain Market. Second why are the teams named after food? I don't recall David Ruprecht's version having teams named Team Oats And Barley or Team Bananas and this sounds like a weird thing to do. Also the Big Sweep is terribly ruined and instead of an announcer giving cool commentary Leslie Jones gives out annoying commentary with phrases such as "You go girl" and completely ruins the excitement and fun of Supermarket Sweep that the show was originally known for. As for Leslie Jones herself as the host she is very weak as a host and constantly YELLS really LOUD and I don't know how they chose her as the host but someone better could've done the hosting job rather than Leslie Jones and I cannot figure out how she also is executive producer of Supermarket Sweep as well. Another thing I noticed is that David Ruprecht is not involved with this version of Supermarket Sweep at all and ABC should've had him appear to welcome Leslie to the show but he is nowhere to be seen or mentioned. Al Howard would be shocked at this ruined version of his creation if he was still alive today. My bet is that this version will be cancelled faster than you think after the second episode airs and give low ratings for ABC. My advice go to Amazon Prime and watch the David Ruprecht version of Supermarket Sweep to see the fun and excitement that made this show a classic
Overall Grade: C

I did watch some of the first Supermarket Sweep episode and to me Leslie Jones was so hyped and she screamed a lot. As for David Ruprecht, i will never forget his colorful sweaters.

Hi, Bestie! I agree with you that Leslie did not do a very good job on the first episode. It looks like they forgot that SMS is a corny show with corny people and that is what made it good. Leslie needs to tone it down and celebrate normal people.

Here's other things I found wrong with Supermarket Sweep when I finally found the first episode in it's entirety on Youtube this morning. The iconic Mini-Sweep is also a mess with all three teams this time competing for the extra cash rather then one contestant finding the item. Didn't they realize that the Mini-Sweep is played traditionally on Supermarket Sweep by one contestant only?. Another thing I noticed on this version of Supermarket Sweep is that the games are not about food but seem to be about commercials about products. Take for example one game has the teams guessing commercial logos and what products the commercial's logo is seen on and I guessed most of the logos but it was terrible in my eyes. I mean what am I doing? Watching a game show or doing commercial research? They could've designed the games better and had more interesting trivia rather than learning about commercials. The Round Robin game is also ruined with trivia again about commercials about products and there's no scrambled letter game in this Round Robin game. What really was shocking is how they changed the final part but this time instead of three items to find it's now five but now it's also a mess with a Deal Or No Deal type element with the option for the winning team to take their winnings or continue with an extended time limit for the chance at the awesome prize of $100,000 and had they left it alone they should've made the final round played like the traditional Supermarket Sweep final round. And the addition of additional characters like Neil the security guard a barista and Richard the rose seller doesn't help the game at all. Lastly why does this version of Supermarket Sweep use the rap song Push It as it's theme song? To me it seems awkward and doesn't fit the show at all and a new version of the theme song could've worked wonders

Leslie Jones' Supermarket Sweep revival is the perfect coronavirus-era game show (https://www.rollingstone.com/tv/tv-features/supermarket-sweep-revival-abc-leslie-jones-review-1077132/)

Supermarket Sweep has had three previous incarnations, each of which was a product of its time. The original 1965 version exploited the booming consumerism of post-World War II America. The 1990s version on Lifetime felt out of place after premiering during a recession. The 2000s version premiered in the wake of 9/11. "Each time around, Supermarket Sweep has been a screen grab of America," says David Browne. "In the coronavirus era, there may not be a more perfectly timed show than Supermarket Sweep," he adds. "The sight of people frantically racing up and down aisles, lunging for piles of meat products and king-size paper goods and beverages, suddenly doesn’t feel like wish fulfillment. It feels like life in America for the past six or seven months. A game show once steeped in fantasy now feels perhaps a bit too entrenched in reality — or, at least, core survival instincts. It makes you realize we’ve been living in a real-life Supermarket Sweep for a while; we just didn’t realize it."

ALSO:

Leslie Jones hosting Supermarket Sweep as a fan is the best part of the reboot (https://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/2020/10/supermarket-sweep-abc-review/): "A long-time fan hosting a game show is the single best part of this revival," says Andy Dehnart. "Leslie Jones is not trying to be 1990s and 2000s Supermarket Sweep host David Ruprecht. Instead, she hosts by leading with her enthusiasm for the format, and it’s both endearing and successful, because she just merges the two together seamlessly."
How Supermarket Sweep kept its produce fresh and its shelves stocked amid the pandemic (https://tv.avclub.com/how-the-new-supermarket-sweep-keeps-its-produce-fresh-a-1845375716): "All the food is real and all the food was ordered prior to there being a pandemic," says executive producer Alycia Rossiter. "Right as things were about to start shipping to our warehouse for rehearsals and run through so we could figure out how we were going to lay out our gondolas—I learned words like that, by the way. Gondolas are the shelves in a grocery store. But right as we were about to do that, we were sequestered at home in L.A. Not only that, we learned that there was a scarcity of some ingredients and some products, so we changed our list and we took everything that was scarce in regular supermarkets off our list. Because of that, we had to reconfigure what our grocery store would look like, because we had no paper towels, no toilet paper, no Lysol, nothing like that. But everything in the store was all real and we used it for the run of the show. When we had to shut our show down, we had our rehearsal warehouse ready. Not 100 percent ready, but, nine-tenths ready. And then we all stayed home for quite a few months. When we came back to life, we moved all of those groceries to where we eventually ended up shooting the show, which was at the Santa Monica airport’s Barker hangar. So, an airplane hangar. Instead of parking airplanes, we parked our store and we rebuilt our gondolas and we put all of our products on them." Rossiter adds that a lot of leftover food was donated to the L.A. Mission and the L.A. Food Bank.

What did you think of the Supermarket Sweep revival Bonnie? I was able to see it on Youtube in it's entirety yesterday morning and it didn't impress me much. I thought Leslie Jones was a weak host and it was weird that she also did her own commentary on the Big Sweep but I like David Ruprecht from the original Supermarket Sweep better. They should've had Yvette Nicole Brown or Octavia Spencer host Supermarket Sweep rather than Leslie Jones

My mom happened to see Leslie Jones on The View this morning promoting Supermarket Sweep and what my mom told me is according to Leslie Jones the debut episode scored a lot of viewers and was a hit but in my eyes the winner is season 2 of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. As I mentioned in my previous posts I don't think Supermarket Sweep will survive and next Sunday's episode will be it's last. How ABC ruined a game show favorite is beyond me and had ABC done it right and had Joe Cipirano be the announcer it would be great. I wonder what David Ruprecht has to say about this? Probably feels sad and angry that he didn't join in the revival of his lone game show

I doubt it, not alot of original actors and actresses are interested in joining the revival, it is just not the same as the original

Is anyone else having trouble deciphering all of the language in the episodes, or do I really need to take a course in Ebonics?

I like it - I think some of the questions are way too easy but other than that it moves along. It's doing really well in the ratings.

I see most posters I agree with. Leslie Jones is NOT suited to host a game show. Way too loud and her clothes could be better. Ripped jeans?? The show it self wasn't bad but get a new host. Was she on Saturday Night Live at one time??? I don't understand why hosts have to shout. I see the old1950 and 1960's shows on Buzzer and the shows are soothing to see.

It's doing really well in the ratings. That's a stretch. Supermarket Sweep is doing ok enough for renewal, but I wouldn't say really well.

It's ABC's highest rated show on Sunday night, beating everything, including Card Sharks and Millionaire.

It's Sunday night rating beat EVERY show ABC had on last night.

it is cheap to make, plus they make a lot of money off of product placements.

You don't have to like it, but there is no question is doing really well.

You don't have to like it, but there is no question is doing really well.Best rating out of FOUR shows including itself on Sunday. That hardly makes up the whole ABC lineup... Cheap to make and product placements does NOT mean doing really well, it just means they are cheap... Maybe if they had paid more for a better host its quality would have been closer to the Lifetime version. But Leslie Jones has been absolutely terrible. Just being a fan of a show's previous incarnation does not qualify you to be a game show host, that lady does not know how to speak in a normal voice. Is it doing ok for renewal? Yes, ok enough there but that in no way makes it a hit or doing really well.
