I've noticed that several shows from the 60s, 70s, and 80s often drink milk with their lunch and dinner. Has anyone else noticed this?

Milk was big back than ! As a kid I drank it with dinner all the time and lunch a lot of times too ! ;) Heenan Fan 08-29-2020, 12:50 AM I still drink milk with my dinner every night and probably around 60% of the time at lunch. What's the big deal? MA 08-29-2020, 10:04 AM I still drink milk with my dinner every night as well. biffbronson 08-29-2020, 10:07 AM For a lunch or dinner side dish, I used to have an odd habit of eating a bowl of cold cereal with milk, when I was young. :( I was afraid to eat some of the more "adult" foods. Fallon97 08-29-2020, 10:40 AM I still drink milk with my dinner every night and probably around 60% of the time at lunch. What's the big deal? Nothing. It's not a bad thing. It's just something that I noticed. :) MA 08-29-2020, 10:41 AM For a lunch or dinner side dish, I used to have an odd habit of eating a bowl of cold cereal with milk, when I was young. :( I was afraid to eat some of the more "adult" foods. I eat cereal for lunch or dinner sometimes myself. Fallon97 08-29-2020, 10:42 AM Milk was big back than ! As a kid I drank it with dinner all the time and lunch a lot of times too ! ;) It feels very old school to me. It gives shows from the 60s, 70s, and 80s a certain innocence that I love. :D Fallon97 08-29-2020, 10:43 AM I eat cereal for lunch or dinner sometimes myself. Me too. MA 08-29-2020, 10:47 AM Me too. It's especially good after you have a big meal and you feel like eating something light. TSMIV 08-29-2020, 11:49 AM Leave it to Beaver wasted more milk than an elementary school cafeteria. They pour a huge glass and take one tiny sip. I don't know any adults who drink milk with a meal. I don't know any kids who do it outside of the cafeteria, either. I've always thought all the milk drinking on TV was just one of those silly tv land things that the audience is just supposed to accept without question. rcbrad 08-29-2020, 08:37 PM Milk consumption in general is way down from decades ago. Growing up we had to drink a glass of milk first with most meals and then we could have iced tea or something like that. Soda was considered a treat that we would have maybe a few or several times a week. AB 08-29-2020, 09:02 PM We were always served milk with lunch at school. At home we'd have water or Kool-Aid with our lunch. For dinner we'd have soda or ice tea. But yeah in the 50's and 60's milk was the go to drink for kids. And ice tea and kool aid in the summer , but we had to still drink milk too in the summer! ;) Bonniegirl 08-29-2020, 11:08 PM Leave it to Beaver wasted more milk than an elementary school cafeteria. No. Milk really was big at mealtime back than! :);) CosmicCharlie 09-07-2020, 01:13 PM In the 60's Americans drank SO MUCH MILK the the Milk Man would come 2 times a week in his "Milk Truck" to deliver right to our doorstep and take the old used bottles back ... - Hood Milk - merlinjones 09-07-2020, 03:08 PM For the young: From the 1950s to 1070s USDA recommended specific helpings of "the four basic food groups" (prior to the revised "food pyramid" of later days). Milk was considered a primary source of Vitamin D and Calcium and necessary for proper bone growth and strength. On one chart from the era, children were advised to have 3 to 4 cups per day, teenagers 4 or more cups per day and adults 2 or more cups. TV reflects the times. bmasters9 09-07-2020, 03:21 PM It's especially good after you have a big meal and you feel like eating something light. Just the way I feel! Furienna 09-07-2020, 03:44 PM Milk was big back than ! As a kid I drank it with dinner all the time and lunch a lot of times too ! ;) I'm a big milk drinker, but only with fruits and (most) sandwishes. So I don't really drink milk for lunch and dinner. LUNCH 09-08-2020, 02:53 PM No. Milk really was big at mealtime back than! :);) I agree. It was a big thing. I used to drink milk, but at most, just 1 cup or glass a day even though I never really liked it. Also as with most things I think the quality of milk was better back in the day compared to these days. I have not touched milk in years. LUNCH 09-08-2020, 02:55 PM They used to advertise all types of health benefits to drinking milk. Most of it was nonsense. CosmicCharlie 09-08-2020, 03:42 PM Milk was THE main stream beverage in the 60's with our family supper, my friends got to drink soda pop (tonic here in New England) but my parents said drinking that stuff was junk - seems they were right ! soda pop = liquid candy. Still today I never drink soda pop. I'm lactose intolerant and milk (dairy) goes through me in 30 minutes, sometimes less. My mom became lactose intolerant at 70, I got it at 50, and my nephew got it at 30. Many say humans are not designed to digest large amounts of ANY milk for a life time - seems true in my family ... Remember the milk ads showing a milk mustache on the actors in the ads ? lol Willbo 09-08-2020, 04:06 PM My son drinks a lot of milk and he is only 22. My wife drinks a lot of milk also. |
