Am I the only one who liked the Lawrence Welk show when I was a child? Between the ages of about 10 to 12 I watched the Lawrence Welk show on a regular basis with my grandparents and I liked it!!! This was not the case with other kids I knew at the time. I was really 'square' at a young age I suppose. But that was in the early 80's. Wasn't it "hip to be square" later in that decade? If so, I got an early start! But am I the only one?
I would certainly like to know. So please chime in.

There's nothing wrong with The Lawrence Welk Show, good music, good entertainment, I used to watch the show back in the 1970's and I believe some PBS stations currently run repeats of the shows.

Yes, I still like it today. When it comes on PBS I will still watch it. I really liked those bubbles, and the tap dancer is very entertaining.

I watched it, too - on Saturday evening when it was in syndication.

We watched it with our grandparents, but I did not personally like it. However, if I saw it, I would be reminded of my grandparents, for sure.

I didn't know any kid that liked the Lawrence Welk Show.

The Lawrence Welk Show wasn't aimed at younger people and guess what, there's nothing wrong with that. Over the course of a lifetime you gain experience and appreciation for things that as a young person you're not going to notice or understand. The show had marvelous production values and the performers were all solid.

Sure is. No one on the show understood what the song meant. Somehow a recording of the song got to Welk because the song mentioned Jesus. Welk thought it was nice that among all the evil rock and roll songs someone was talking about Jesus so they recorded it for the show. I don't know if he ever found out the truth.

Yes, this was also the case for me as a pre teen in the 1970's as it pertained to soft rock. Until the age of about 12, these "silly little love songs" were the only songs on radio or on record albums that I heard at this time.

But I am memorizing the lyrics of songs about love affairs which I knew nothing about!

The target audience for these songs were not pre teenagers, but I liked them anyway, and I still do.

My Mom most certainly enjoyed it. The polka numbers inspired her to become happy and begin to dance.

For much of my childhood, we got a decent NBC, ABC, and CBS signal. The PBS signal was weaker, but viewable. That was all we got. Imagine my shock, circa 1988, when we started receiving a faint, snowy Fox signal. You had to use tin foil and a coat hanger, but it was there! On bad weather days, you couldn't see the signal, but on good days, you could watch Married With Children and The Simpsons.

Welk had good taste in women. A lot of his girls were beauties. My favorite was Mary Lou Metzger!
