I don't see a thread on her, so here we are. Has anyone ever heard of her and listened to her music?

To keep it short, her full name is Ioanna Mouskouri and she is a Greek singer (85 years of age now) who has recorded over 200 albums in at least 12 languages (Greek, English, Italian, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Hebrew, Welsh, Mandarin Chinese and Corsican to name a few). Nana started out as a jazz musician before delving into pop, folk, Greek folk, easy listening and world music.

So one day, I was scrolling through eBay looking for potential CDs to buy. I see an album titled "Nana Mouskouri: Gold" (I have several of these "Gold" collections released by Universal Intl.). I was thinking, "Hmmm, I've never heard of this woman", so I research Nana and learn about her wide breadth of music. I gave a listen to "White Rose of Athens", "I Have a Dream" and "Ave Maria". I was hooked! I went and ordered the CD and received it yesterday. There is also another "Nana Mouskouri: Gold" released by Universal France that has a different cover and track listing that I might buy as well.

On another note, she covered Bryan Adams' "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" on her latest album from 2018. It amazes me to hear a woman, then 84 years old, sound fresh, cover someone else's song and even hit the same notes as the original recording. I have developed a liking for lesser-known European singers as well, like Anna Vissi and Montserrat Caballe. I must have Greek blood in my line somewhere.

What do you think? Give her a listen.

Nana Mouskouri is very beautiful and talented and I have heard some of her songs and they are amazing and it's shocking that a voice so beautiful comes from this awesome lady. Some of the songs she covers is Amapola and Nana's version of Amapola is superb. If you like Nana Mouskouri another singer to try is Sarah Brightman and just like Nana Sarah Brightman is fantastic too

She performed on The Ed Sullivan Show, which is what I think of regarding Nana.

I believe I read that somewhere. Upon listening to my new CD today, there are songs on it that I indeed have heard before, probably in a movie or in a store. Nana certainly has a magic to her and I will be buying the other Gold compilation.

Hi,

It's so good to see Nana Mouskouri's name listed on here. Thank you for posting.

As far back I can remember, Nana's music has been in my life. My mom and her cousin loved the album by Harry Belafonte and Nana Mouskouri, "An Evening With Belafonte and Mouskouri." I heard it being played a lot when I was just a little guy. In fact, I recently found a CD version of that album in my mom's things that I inherited. Mom sadly passed away in 2014. I've been meaning to listen to it. I know it will bring back so many memories of mom playing that vinyl album many times throughout my young life, in addition to many other Nana Mouskouri albums she had in her collection.

I recently downloaded her song "Roses Love Sunshine" from her amazing, "Roses & Sunshine" album. That's one of my favorites. In fact, mom and I gave Sylvia that CD/album, which she very much enjoyed too.

Nana Mouskouri is such an amazing singer and I don't know how she mastered so many languages but my mom got to listen to her today when I played Nana Mouskouri on Apple Music and she was surprised at how well Nana sung in Spanish and I think she will become a legend in music for decades to come. She reminds me a lot of Linda Eder who like Nana is very talented as well

For Christmas I also got a Nana Mouskouri album and it's her ultimate hits collection and I was enchanted with it and although I haven't listened to it yet I will adore Nana's amazing voice

I got to listen to Nana Mouskouri's Ultimate Hits album yesterday and my, oh,my, Nana has such an amazing voice and I wondered how Nana Mouskouri had gotten an amazing voice like that? And when I listened to Nana's voice I was swept away. Some of the songs she sings in my album are her cover of REM's hit Everybody Hurts and her rendition of the classic opera tune Habanera from the opera Carmen and Nana Mouskouri really knows how to sing opera well and i'm surprised she has never released an opera album yet. She also duets with Julio Iglesias and pulls it off well and I can honestly say I am impressed with Nana Mouskouri's talent and hope she continues enchanting audiences in the future for years to come
Thanks to 1990 UM Fan for introducing me to Nana Mouskouri's music

Here's something interesting and shocking about Nana Mouskouri that you didn't know about her that will make you surprised. DadTheKing was talking to a good friend of his and this friend of his got to see Nana Mouskouri in concert and that's not all. This friend even got to meet Nana Mouskouri after the concert and they went to have lunch together. And Dad's friend said Nana was the most wonderful lady she'd ever met and when DadTheKing told me the story I was amazed at this friend and how she got to meet Nana Mouskouri

Hi, Hawkee! Yes, my friend got to meet her. They are both Greek and had a great lunch together. My friend told me how gracious and nice she was, Not stuck up at all. My question is why she wore glasses so much.

Hello Tumbleweed,
I recently discovered Nana Mouskouri myself and got her album for Christmas and I agree with you Nana does have a wonderful voice and she shows it well. But I never knew Nana sang with Harry Belafonte and my favorite song of Nana Mouskouri's is Only Love and it's such a lovely song
I'm glad to find another Nana Mouskouri fan who adores her just as I do
