I saw a "Father Knows Best" Complete Series DVD set at Walmart today for $59.99 and won't be able to buy it until next week. But when I went home and checked Amazon there was no listing of it.

Then I did a Google search and again, nothing comes up for it. I specifically looked at the back of the box to ensure it has Closed Captions and it had the CC logo, and I also saw the year said 2020. So it's definitely a recent release this year.

But why is it not showing up in any other shopping places?! Even on the Walmart website it's not showing up. There was 1 copy on the shelf and i'm going back next week to hide it so I can get it next week when I have the money.

I just find it baffling that this seems to be a legitimate release but it's nowhere on the internet---as if it doesn't exist.:confused:

But for $59.99 for the whole series I have to go back and get that...maybe it's the only copy of the Complete Series in existence.

Yes it has been re-issued as a complete series set, here is an ebay listing which includes pictures of the item:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/203059073795

I'm curious to know if the 1st season was corrected to contain all unedited episodes but I don't see any mention of that on the box so I'm assuming this new release is just a repackaged re-issue of the previously released season sets.

Thanks for that link. It seems that e bay listing is the only place on the whole internet that's offering it for sale. Even Walmart's website where I saw it today doesn't show it for sale on their website. It's so weird.

It looks like it's a legitimate release with the SHOUT company as the distributor and for $59.95 seems like a steal considering separate seasons go for over $20 each. (and that e bay listing is $87.90! Yikes!) I just hope that one copy I saw today at Walmart is still there when I go back on Thursday to hide it until next week when I can buy it.

Thanks again for the link. The pictures in that listing really help too because I forgot to check which studio was distributing it when I was in the store.

They SHOULD have used the opportunity to correct season 1.

Do I think they did? No.

Darn, I would have bought one this summer. I got 1-4 for about $10 each, but 5&6 are like $30 each, so I haven't bought them.

Last week I saw the same thing and was just as shocked. I was both happy and mad, as I already bought each of the seasons when they came out and spent a fortune doing so. Now for a fraction I could get them all. Well, on the other side I wouldn't have been able to watch the whole series a couple years ago if I had waited till now. Sure took a long time for it to happen, by the way.

Now I think the person who saw this now has made a mistake I've made more times than I like to remind myself, that is- seeing something unbelievable and then passing it by till "the next time I come back". What always happens is the next time you come back it's long gone. So good luck, if it's not gone already I'd make a bee line back to Walmart NOW.

Now you're making me nervous it will be gone when I go back.

The good thing is that they're not open 24 hrs these days and close at 7pm. So that helps to keep people away from it. I can buy it next Wednesday so I plan on going back on Thursday morning and will hide that one copy behind a bunch of other dvds so I can snag it next week.

Hopefully that will work. I was so shocked to see it today and at that low 59.99 price because I could never afford the separate seasons they're so darn expensive. I wish I didn't have my credit card maxed out or I would've got it today.

You know this is not the first time Walmart has come out with a multiple season set of a TV series that only they and they alone carry. I bought the Dukes of Hazzard complete series (it was divided into two sets) but the complete seasons were in a single plastic holder not divided up into a bundle of al the single season releases. Also Walmart came out with the COMPLETE Lost In Space about 2 years ago for only $20!!! Once again I already paid thru the nose for the single seasons when they first were released but I couldn't resist such a bargain and bought one set for my nephews who recently discovered Lost In Space. Walmart also came out with multiple season sets of Gunsmoke all in a single plastic holder for several years that weren't available anywhere else at the time.

By the way, I've done the same thing, that is trying to hide a valuable DVD set so that I can find it "next time I come back". Sometimes that works, but you're still relying on luck.

Yes, seasons 2-6 have unedited episodes. Season 1 is messed up with several edited episodes and it appears that hasn't been corrected with this new release.

You're welcome, glad to be of help. I don't need this new release because I bought the individual seasons when those were released. If they would have fixed season 1 to have all unedited episodes I'd be interested but it appears the error wasn't corrected.

That's odd that Walmart would be the only seller but I swear it's not available for sale anywhere I look online except for that ebay link (and they probably got it at Walmart and jacked the price up).

I did actually see Lost in Space on the shelf too as well as the complete Hogan's Heroes set. I wanted to buy that too and was so upset I couldn't.

If the FKB is gone after I go back even after hiding it, i'll try and ask if they can order one for me in the store. The set isn't even showing on their website.

Heck, it's not even showing for sale on the Shout Factory website either. It's so strange. Maybe this is exclusively sold inside Walmart stores. I never seen that before.

That's it, Walmart has some sort of exclusive deal with many of these complete or in Gunsmoke's case near complete TV series sets. Those Dukes of Hazzard sets weren''t available elsewhere either in those handy all in 2 sets.

Unfortunately, my Walmart since this Wuhan Virus started up is carrying a lot less DVDs than they used to. They used to carry a lot more. All the more reason I was surprised when I saw that Father Knows Best set.

That second ebay link is a better price. I bet people are buying them from Walmart and selling them for more on ebay. All the more reason to snag that copy quickly before an ebay-er gets it to make a profit.

I think it's great of Walmart to sell these but making it exclusively theirs can make it more difficult to get if they're the only place you can get them. But that $59.99 price is so great. With 203 episodes it's just under .30 cents per episode!

Hopefully if I miss this copy I can either visit another location or have the manager order another one for me. This is a series i've wanted for a long time but the cost of each season was just too much.

I'll come back and update if I snag it!:wave:

The rest of the seasons are complete episodes, except for one episode in season 5, which is a "flashback", recut episode.

For most of the episodes they located the 35mm masters, probably provided by the Robert Young estate.

That's great to hear! The only episodes I know are from watching Antenna TV's airings and I know how they butcher shows to fit their extra long commercials so it will be nice to see all those "new" scenes on the dvd. And Antenna TV left my city a few months ago so I don't even get FKB anymore. :(

The Donna Reed Show airs on Decades in the morning, and is very similar to it, so it's been a pretty good replacement so far, but I still miss FNB.

The FKB episodes "flow" better on the DVDs, with all the missing scenes restored. Plus, they don't have all those blackouts where the missing material obviously was.

It's too bad Shout Factory didn't release Window On Main Street on DVD as a complete series. A total of 10 episodes are included as bonuses on the Father Knows Best DVD's, and the Christmas episode is included on Shout Factory's Merry Sitcom DVD, for a total of 11 episodes. I believe the series has 34 episodes, so 23 of them remain unseen. :(

Thanks. Does it usually work out well for you? I don't think anyone will get it, unless a worker notices it back there and moves it, but it seems well hidden. Hopefully i'll get lucky.

I doubt those 3 copies of The Mindy Project will sell and expose the FKB behind it before Wednesday.

Somebody did that with hand sanitizer at Target a couple of months ago (probably so they could come back in and get more) but I found it. It was pushed way back on a lower shelf, out of sight.

It was still there today and I got it!!

I can't wait to watch it for the first time unedited and see all the "new" scenes that were cut for Antenna TV airings.

Off the top of my head are 3 favorite episodes I want to watch first. I don't know the exact titles but they're---

1. The radio episode where the family helps out people far away on a boat during a storm after hearing their distress over the radio.

2. Bud and the carnival, where he works for the carnival swindler who teaches Bud a lesson and learns one himself as well.

3. The one where Margaret's old college friend comes to visit who carried a decades long torch for her husband and visits to see "how the story ends". I love it not only for the story, but for Constance Ford who played the friend.
As a long time fan of the old, defunct daytime soap Another World, Ford played Ada on that show in her later years and I loved her there. And it's nice to see her in this performance as a beautiful young woman 3 decades earlier.

There's tons more favorites, but these 3 stick out in my head. :)

Here's pics of the set---I'm SO happy I got it!!!

Thanks, i'm going to treasure it because i've fallen in love with this show.

I see from your earlier post that you have seasons 1-4. An idea you may want to consider is to sell those seasons you have on ebay say and use that money to apply towards the complete set.

I really don't understand why the separate seasons of this show are so much money. It's what's kept me from buying them for the longest time. For such an old show, the expensive pricing is unusual.

I loved her on AW but only caught her from the mid 80's till she passed away. I think she was on that show from the early 70's.

When I first saw that FTB episode a couple of years ago, I knew I recognized that face but couldn't place it, and was so shocked when I looked up the episode to find out it was Constance Ford. Wow she was a beauty in her youth!...Not that she was hideous on AW, just older.

Could you check the first episode of season 1, where Bud learns to dance? On the original DVD set this one (and several others) are 22+ minutes long, syndication episodes. I'd like to know if they corrected it to 25+ minute length (I doubt it).

I used the TV Land episodes and edited most of the short episodes into 24 or 25 minute versions.

I just checked and it's 22 minutes for that episode. Sorry. :(

I popped in season a 5 disc this morning to watch the episode with Constance Ford and discovered there is NO Closed Captioning on any of the season 5 or season 6 discs.

And all the discs for season 5 actually have the CC logo stamped right onto them which makes it totally false advertising. After this discovery, I popped in all the discs to check and found that only seasons 1 through 4 are Closed Captioned.

Yet the back of the box says "CC" with no disclaimer that the final 2 seasons lack them. Again, it's false advertising and i'm incredibly upset now because I need the CC to watch. :(

I sent an e mail to Shout Factory about it and will see how they respond. But if anyone needs Captioning or Subtitles to watch, be aware that there's none for the final 2 seasons in this set.

I guess I could return it to Walmart but I may just keep it for seasons 1-4 and sell seasons 5&6 on ebay to recoup some of the cost since those are now inaccessible to me.

Hopefully Shout will either add the CC to those 2 seasons or at least update their packaging to alert customers before they buy this. It's not right.

I was expecting that they just reissued season 1 as is, despite all the heat they took for the original release.

I did not know about the CC problem on S5 and S6. Seasons 2, 3 and 4 are near-perfect seasons. Here's a brief review of the other problems:

Season 1 - several syndication-length episodes. They could have used the TV Land masters on those. Several episodes with wrong end-credits. Most end credits abruptly cut out the Screen Gems slide at the end.

Season 2 - most episodes use the syndication opener rather than the correct, network opener. This opener had Jim entering thru the kitchen, and the kids posed at the entrance door.

Season 3 - most episodes use the syndication opener rather than the correct, network opener. This opener had Jim and Margaret kissing in the hall and credited together, and the family joining together on the couch.

Season 4 - almost perfect. There is one episode with the wrong closing credits despite the fact that the syndication episode is correct.

Season 5 - most episodes use the "hybrid" opener from syndication, with mismatched audio. The closing credits are taken directly from syndication credits and therefore cut out the original Screen Gems slide at the end. One episode, a recut from another season, is syndication length.

Season 6 - most episodes have the wrong closing credit music. There is no "Play All" option for the episodes on the original set, which was probably not corrected for the new set.

Most episodes have quite good quality for their age. A few are taken from inferior 16mm sources. Most of the full-length episodes from season 1 are subpar quality. "Lesson in Citizenship" is embarrassingly bad and has the wrong end credits, to boot.

The audio level on most episodes is quite low. If you crank it up, it sounds fine, but a few episodes have a garbled audio problem.

I have season 1 playing now and the picture quality isn't bad at all imo. There are flecks you see from time to time appear on the screen, but they're not so bad that it detracts from the viewing.

I have "The Motor Scooter" episode playing now and the picture is great except for the minor flecks that appear which doesn't bother me much.

And yes the audio is so low. My God I have to up the volume considerably just to hear their voices! Thank goodness for the captions....at least on seasons 1-4.

At least a couple of my favorite episodes are CC'd. "The Carnival" and "Short Wave" from season 3.

I haven't watched any season 1 episodes because so many of them are the edited for syndication versions. The best thing about the season 1 DVD is the bonus feature, the debut episode of Window On Main Street. Yesterday I went ahead and bought this set at Walmart. I just happened to see it on the shelf as I was going past the TV On DVD area. I hadn't heard anything about this set prior to my seeing it yesterday.

There was only one on the shelf so I grabbed it up and purchased it quickly. I can confirm that from a preview of each disc that all of the edited episodes from season one are still indeed edited in this complete series re-release.

I'm still happy about my purchase because I never officially owned the series on DVD because the prices run roughly 20 dollars a season so I was never in a hurry to own it on DVD.

The price for the entire series at Walmart is unbeatable and a lot cheaper than purchasing them individually.

All in all this set is a winner and fits better in a DVD collection with the new packaging.
