I heard on the local news radio (KNX 1070 AM) that Death Valley reached 130 degrees F (54.4 degrees C) today.
The accuweather website also shows this. I suppose it should be validated and official by tomorrow. I have been following the summer temps at Death Valley since the early-1980s and have waited many years for it to hit 130 degrees. Looks like it finally happened! It has been 129 degrees there a few times during the last 25 or so years.
Here is a link and a few screenshots.

Wow! The hottest it's gotten here was 122. That was back in the 1980's.

Makes me feel guilty for complaining that it's 95 degrees, here!
Couldn't imagine dealing with those temperatures. Do people actually live in Death Valley?

About 320 people live there. Most are park employees. Maybe also miners and native Americans.

And it gets pretty cold in the winter right ? I live in SoCal but I am not very familiar with Death Valley ( except that this is where Charlie Manson and the family went when they thought "Helter Skelter" was coming down ) , but I know the desert can have extreme temperatures! Scorching heat but can get very cold in the winter !

I bet you could buy a house pretty cheap there though ! ;):D
It's name is Death Valley. 70 with a nice ocean breeze isn't the first image that springs to mind.

True. It is to be expected. Being a desert and in the summer months.

Yes, it can get cold there in the winter. The record low temp is 15 degrees F above zero. Ironically, that happened the same year as the record high (in 1913). The average minimum temp in December is 38 degrees F.
