Andrew Lloyd Webber isn't mincing words about his feelings toward the movie adaptation of his hit musical Cats. The composer has officially dubbed the 2019 film "ridiculous" and called out its director, Tom Hooper.

“The problem with the film was that Tom Hooper decided, as he had with Les Mis, that he didn’t want anybody involved in it who was involved in the original show," Webber said in an interview about his upcoming musical Cinderella with the U.K.'s Sunday Times.

"The whole thing was ridiculous.”

When it comes down to it when you take a successful Broadway play and make it into a movie some movie adaptions of Broadway plays are good while others can fail. Cats is one example and when my mom and I saw the previews of the Cats movie last Thanksgiving I couldn't believe my eyes that Cats was gonna be a movie and I was surprised to see that James Corden starred in it. But when the movie opened in December Cats had recieved terrible reviews and not very many people watched it. As we saw with the movie adaptions of The Phantom Of The Opera and The Great Gatsby it goes to show that people are really into these types of movies and just like with the movie adaption of Evita people expect these films to be monster smash hits with anyone who likes Broadway plays. Like if they made movie adaptions of Chess and A Chorus Line and Avenue Q I can bet they'll would be hits

The Great Gatsby wasn't a Broadway movie.
