View Full Version : SEASON 1

I am having a rerun of Season 1, and as i have been observing the acting of all the seven girls, i came to the conclusion that TOOTIE is definitely the most hilarious one of them all! (NATALIE became the wise cracker only after the reboot on season 2).

BLAIR was of course the star on the acting performance, followed by TOOTIE, then SUE ANN, NANCY, NATALIE, CINDY and lastly MOLLY.

This is how i rate them all on personalities:

1. BLAIR as the leader was great in drama and comedy : she had such an air of innocence and vulnerability on her when she spoke about her family issues (on the episode 'Like mother, like daughter' when she has her first heart to heart talk with MRS G, you can feel her pain) but she was also great at playing the villain (on the episode 'Rough housing', when she bullies CINDY she delivers those great lines with such conviction, that i am finding it hard to believe she didn't know what strange was when she said it).:bighug::bighug:

2. TOOTIE was definitely the comedienne: the way she kept cracking jokes and smart replies at everyone (especially at BLAIR and MR BRADLEY) was spectacular, and i found myself burst in laughter!:rofl:

3. SUE ANN was a great foil to BLAIR in my opinion, and i liked her better than JO (except during the later years in the episode 'The little chill'): she was the most caring and easy going character on the set, and the kind of girl everyone wished they had as a best friend!:grouphug::grouphug:

4. NANCY: i think she was absolutely wasted/Nancied by the writers and should have had more lines. she was a strong and dynamic character, and it's really a shame that all she got to say were those lousy lines, about calling on Roger while glued on the phone when she could have been so much more.....:yourock::yourock:

5. NATALIE: she wasn't bad for a beginner, but you could tell she lacked of confidence in the acting department. Fortunately, she improved tremendously from season 2 onward (despite what cfr1970 might think otherwise) and became the wise cracker one of them all!:cheer::cheer:

6. CINDY: unfortunately her character wasn't strong enough. It's really a shame cos JULIE ANN HADDOCK is a great actress (i'v seen her on a 'Wonder woman' episode as well as on 'Little house on the prairie') but the writers kept hiding her in the background, and when she had lines she wasn't energetic enough. In the only episode she shines is in 'Rough housing' though: She delivers a great performance all the way through! :jar::jar:

And lastly,

7. MOLLY: i know she is great in all the JOHN HUGE movies, but on FOL her acting seemed forced in my opinion.
I'm glad she was part of the crew though: her character as the environmentalist was a great addition to the show, as well as her abilities in photography and musical talents (they tried to pass on these qualities to TOOTIE, but to me she wasn't convincing as a photographer).:hello:

Overall, all the 7 girls played an important part on the first season of FOL, and to be honest, without any of them the show would have never been the same.

Comments/opinions anyone?

Nancy O. would be last in my list because they developed her character the least. We didn't know anything about her family. We don't know anything about her interests other than Roger and Donna Summer records. She seemed to be a carbon copy of Felice.

The writers didn't seem to know what to do with Cindy and how to right her tomboy characteristics into a story line other than Rough Housing and Running.

I would rank Molly higher. She was the only one of the Lost Girls where we saw members of her family. I know lot of people can't comprehend an 11/12 year old being a social justice warrior, but Molly's own 11 year old twins seem to be a lot like her Facts of Life character. We know the show incorporated her real life photograpy interests and she did come from a musical family.

I understand your point of view, but even though we saw members of MOLLY's family, to me she was a bit what TOOTIE became in the later years: a whiner, and although we didn't know anything about NANCY's background, i found her personality more appealing and could definitely relate more to her.
In fact, if i had been an 'Eastland' girl i would have probably hung out with BLAIR, SUE ANN and NANCY (rather than MOLLY or NATALIE season 1)

I would have liked to hang out with Sue Ann and Cindy in the first season.

Nancy O. had what they called a codependent relationship with Roger. I don't think I would want to deal with that.

At that time, Tootie and Molly would have been too young for someone my age (same age as the older girls) to hang around with.

I'm younger than all of them, but i would have still preferred to hang out with the older girls lol!

And yes: NANCY had that codependent relationship with ROGER, but i think she could have loosen up a little if SUE ANN and BLAIR had invited her to join them at the exclusive 'Dope club'

Emily and Tumpy didn't want Nancy O. because Roger was a local guy and didn't go a private school like Bates Academy or Stone Military Academy.

Funny that you mention TUMPY & EMILY, cos i was just watching the 'Dope' episode and this is the onlytime we see NANCY get upset about anything other than ROGER (except for the pilot 'The girl's school'): she was hoping so much to be part of the snobbish group BLAIR & NANCY were into, and it was nice when MRS G comforted her:kiss::kiss::kiss:

I was also watching 'Molly's holidays' , and i have to say this is the one episode where MOLLY truly shines!:birthday::birthday::birthday:

So this is: i finished watching season 1 (probably after the zillion time) but as usual, i cannot help feeling a little sadness knowing it was farewell to the LOST GIRLS and welcome to JO......:violin::violin::violin:

The early script (which you can find on here) had Nancy O. being rejected from by the group because Roger was a "townie". Meaning that he was a local resident. For whatever reason, that line never aired.

I know: sometimes it bothers me how they kept cutting some of the script they wrote for the show......

I'm pretty sure it was cut for time, but it's sad it always had to be Nancy's lines (in season 1) and Molly's lines (at the beginning of season 2) that had to be cut.

I hate when they cut lines: every dialogue is important, and for a person with as little lines as NANCY it was a very bad idea!!!!! (what do they have to lose if the show last 25 minutes instead of 22????)

If the show runs 25 minutes instead of 22, the network loses millions of dollars.

But it seems as though Blair almost never had a cut line, when she already had so many already.

Basically saying "Oh no you have bad gossip"? "This is like the *callback to earlier in the ep*".

That's because BLAIR was the star of season 1, remember?
