Unaired episode 115 "The Double Standard"

- Unaired episode 316 "Maude's New Friends"
- Syndication Sales Presentation (Hosted by Norman Lear)

These episodes are considered bonus features on the DVD and I am trying to confirm if these eps are seen on Antenna TV?

I believe those 2 episodes were never aired anywhere in that form. They were reworked into episodes that aired on CBS and in syndication.

Ok so that is considered a bonus then. I was wondering how the hell can it be a bonus and we already seen it in syndication

The episode Double Standard was originally filmed for season 1, but was never aired (that’s what the bonus is) they reshot it with a different actor portraying Carol’s boyfriend and it aired in season 2.

The episode Maude’s New Friends eventually did air in Season 5, but it was reshot with cast changes and an altered story line.

So the bonuses appear to be kind of weak. Not sure why they are adding two AITF eps when that is already on the AITF set. How can those eps be a bonus when you can watch it on another set? lol

I just watched the two versions of The Double Standard and I now see why the reshot it. They completely redid the tease which featured Florida and Maude. They changed a joke about Nixon’s Cabinet, changed a line from Vanessa Redgrave to Vanessa Redgrave & Mia Farrow and also added Rue Mcclanahan to one scene besides that it’s almost exactly the same.

Thought it was going to be my next DVD purchase but now it will be something else

The scene cut at the beginning was quite racist. I think that may be the reason for the reshoot.

It that the statement that had something to do with Nixon?

No they werent related the Nixon thing Maude called his Cabinet childish and they changed it to her calling his advisors childish.

At the begining Florida is singing Ol' Man River.

The season 3 version of the wife swapping episode is better than what CBS allowed to air in season 5. I found the performances and writing more natural in the original than the remade version. The season 3 version also has Bea's real life husband at the time, Gene Saks, who played the role better than the guy in season 5. I don't think the bonuses were weak. These two episodes never aired. Fans got to see new episodes of Maude decades later because CBS thought they were too risque for television at the time. I don't normally care for bonuses but when it's unaired episodes or unaired pilots, I consider that an A for the release.

How can it be an A when the two Maude eps are on the All in the Family too?

There may be some who weren't AITF fans and those episodes that were part of the AITF series would be welcome on a MAUDE box set.

I found the unaired episodes fascinating to watch, to see how they evolved into the "official" ones that ultimately aired.

I bought the box set when it first came out, and it's my most prized DVD set ever.

I figured any Maude fans would be AITF fans since that is where she came from and both shows are connected. Same with the Jeffersons

Not everyone likes a show's spinoff or parent show. I like Buffy, but don't care for Angel. I like The Facts of Life, but don't care too much for Diff'rent Strokes. I don't like Perfect Strangers but I enjoy Family Matters. I like both Maude and All in The Family, but I enjoy Maude more because Bea Arthur is hilarious to watch. I also find the supporting cast of Maude stronger than All in The Family. Mike the meathead is annoying to watch but Arthur on Maude is hilarious. That may have more to do with the actors because Rob is a dull performer while Conrad puts a lot of effort into his roles that pay off. Because of Rob and Sally, I take All in The Family in small viewings. I don't care for either of them.
