Sally Struthers signed a contract with CBS to have a show of her own and Rob Reiner had a contract with ABC. Rob Reiner starred on a ABC sitcom called "Free Country" which only lasted 4 weeks in the summer of 1978, June 24th to July 22nd. Sally Struthers starred in a movie called "And your name is Jonah" that aired on CBS on January 28, 1979.

It may have been due to the fact that we first got cable at just about this time, and pretty much shunned the over the air networks as we explored the new horizon, but as I recall, I had pretty much lost interest in this series a couple years prior. So their departure had negligible impact on my viewing habits.

An upside to this is that every once in a while I'll view a rerun that I've never seen before.

The real "treat" IMO however is when I'll find Carroll O'Connor guest starring in some other show besides AITF, and think "there's Archie"
