View Full Version : Your thoughts on the current Late Night Shows on The BIG 4
simmytbone 07-20-2020, 03:21 AM Hey guys,
with David Letterman retired from Late Night TV after 33 years and Jay Leno retiring The Tonight Show for a 2nd time in 2014 and Ted Koppel leaving Nightline in 2005 and now on CBS News as a Senior Correspondent for Sunday Morning, I wanna know, what are your thoughts on the current Late Night Talk Shows on the BIG 4 Networks?
NBC, CBS, abc and TBS
and here they are:

icecream 07-24-2020, 11:12 PM TBS is not a big 4 network, that would be FOX...
GentlemanJim 07-29-2020, 05:46 PM Colbert is garbage, Jimmy Fallon is marginally watchable, and the others don't even exist
TSMIV 07-29-2020, 08:03 PM They all suck.
Babalu 09-07-2020, 11:27 PM The big 4 are Johnny Carson, David Letterman, Steve Allen, and .... Johnny Carson.
I haven't heard of half the people pictured here and have only actually seen Conan O'Brien and a few minutes of Jimmy Kimmel years ago.
AMackII 09-25-2020, 06:20 PM NBC & ABC has a better crop of hosts right now Neither of these today’s late night hosts would be this close to be at the same level as Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, Arsenio Hall, David Letterman & Tom Snyder back in the day.
Zoneboy 09-25-2020, 08:15 PM I'm not that desperate for entertainment.
mets82 10-07-2020, 04:52 AM I don't watch any of the talk shows anymore. I used to watch Kimmel and Conan sometimes. For me, with all the craziness in the world and the shocking deaths of celebrities like Kobe Bryant, they usually avoid laughter and get serious. Look, that's fine. They could do what they want. It's just I can't watch it when it gets serious and/or somber.

even worse is Jimmy Fallon just continuing laughing when nothing is funny
fake fake fake
treky 10-08-2020, 01:58 AM Kimmels funny, Fallons ok sometimes, I only saw Colbert once and I wasn't very impressed.
Mario500 10-16-2020, 09:34 AM I had often wished the programs named "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon", "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert", "The Late Late Show with James Corden", "Conan", "Late Night with Seth Myers", "A Little Late with Lilly Singh", and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" would not involve vulgar language (I had believed they would be better off without such language).

CosmicCharlie 10-16-2020, 01:15 PM What "Reddit post"?
https://www.reddit.com/r/all/
Reddit (/ˈrɛdɪt/, stylized in its logo as reddit) is an American social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website.
Registered members submit content to the site such as links, text posts, and images, which are then voted up or down by other members. Posts are organized by subject into user-created boards called "subreddits", which cover a variety of topics such as news, politics, science, movies, video games, music, books, sports, fitness, cooking, pets, and image-sharing. Submissions with more up-votes appear towards the top of their subreddit and, if they receive enough up-votes, ultimately on the site's front page. Despite strict rules prohibiting harassment, Reddit's administrators spend considerable resources on moderating the site.[6]
As of October 2020, Reddit ranks as the 17th-most-visited website in the world and 7th most-visited website in the US, according to Alexa Internet, with 40.9% of its user base coming from the United States, followed by the United Kingdom at 10.0% and Canada at 5.2%.[7]

The old sketch comedy show out of Canada, SCTV had a sketch (https://unclebarky.com/reviews_files/94cbfd6bfacce1f9d8bb520eefa2c0e6-1706.html) called The Sammy Maudlin Show (https://www.reddit.com/r/sctv/comments/n5g2qz/the_sammy_maudlin_show_drugs_hollywood/), where (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Obam8KDdrCE&lc=Ugyz3y0mbXEsP5b4D9F4AaABAg) Joe Flaherty played (https://sctv.fandom.com/wiki/Sammy_Maudlin) this talk show host (https://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2022/02/thats-my-jam.html?showComment=1643731733260#c5675237762997016368) who excessively (https://www.avsforum.com/threads/the-jay-leno-show-on-nbc-hd-until-2-12-10-when-nbc-pulls-the-plug.1179596/post-17188463) fawning over (https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/5joaf3/comment/dbi9qib/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) guests, while laughing hard and slapping the desk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqsGIMHNNcI&lc=UgzzKntoTE03nKLmKt14AaABAg) at anything they said. Jimmy Fallon is pretty much like that (https://rec.arts.tv.narkive.com/8vt8LPA0/jimmy-fallon-what-a-clownish-goofball) albeit without a hint of irony (https://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2021/06/oh-no-mike-myers-is-back.html?showComment=1623851172174#c1155331560764407764).
