couldnt get past a 2nd date:lol:
Its no way in hell someone attractive like her in real life would not be called after a 1st date. Mary was in the hospital and she was saying she wont see the lady she was sharing a room with again and said to Rhoda do you ever get that feeling when talking to someone and know you wont see them again
Rhoda........"yes I normally get that feeling from men on 1st dates"
Why? she was attractive and lived alone and had no kids, Why wouldnt a guy call her after a 1st date?

Good point but it somehow made the character more relatable (and less of a punching bag) in that Rhoda did NOT realize how stunning she actually was even in those baggy sweatshirts- as opposed to the character's performer being genuinely not being conventionally attractive (e.g. like Nancy Culp, Rose Marie or Ann B. Davis).

I always laugh at Valerie Harper playing Mary’s desperate best friend. Mary was cute enough. But Valerie was a beautiful woman. It was silly that she was playing the unattractive one. Oh well, that’s television for you.

True, TV's standards of beauty are so crazy. They have a woman take off her glasses and she goes from geek to gorgeous.
Valerie truly was beautiful, and she maintained her looks well into her 40s or beyond.
Although I will say that a woman can obviously still feel unattractive while looking gorgeous. Then the question becomes: what sort of men was Rhoda dating, that they kept dumping her? What kind of vibes was she sending out to men? What did she say to them, during the date, that drove them off? It obviously wasn't her looks.
