View Full Version : Allison of "A Baby in the House".
80s Dude 07-09-2020, 11:46 PM I just saw the episode of "A Baby in the House" where for Eastland student Allison returns with her new baby.
The funny thing is that the 3 season 1 hold over girls all know her well and she never met Jo, so she would have attended Eastland in Season 1, yet I don't recall ever seeing her there or her name even mentioned as an invisible student like Nina or Keggy. Surely if she was so good friends with the girls, we would have seen her or heard her name.
RetroGuy2000 07-10-2020, 04:29 AM It's possible that Allison was mostly around the dorm during the September-February 1979 period when FOL was off the air. ;)
Yeah, it would have been cool for us to have seen a girl we actually saw at the dorm. But that's TV for ya....
80s Dude 07-10-2020, 07:09 AM They should have had Helen Hunt return as Emily (and name the baby something else).
RetroGuy2000 07-10-2020, 01:39 PM They should have had Helen Hunt return as Emily (and name the baby something else).
But Emily was using pot in Season 1, presumably while she would have been pregnant with... not-Emily Emily.

Nancy O. was to appear on a few more episodes. She was still a student at Eastland.
TV Guy 07-11-2020, 12:29 PM They could have said she had the baby between seasons 2 and 3 and dropped out.
RetroGuy2000 07-13-2020, 03:05 AM They could have said she had the baby between seasons 2 and 3 and dropped out.
The bad part about potentially using Nancy is that we would have seen her in just one episode during Season 3, instead of in two episodes. However, the good part would have been seeing her in a major role that season. And it definitely would have given the episode more emotional resonance with viewers who had seen her previously: here is a girl we've seen for three seasons, Nancy, and she's not going to be graduating from Eastland because she and Roger made some mistakes.
80s Dude 07-13-2020, 10:59 AM Nancy O being the teenage mother could have been more realistic as a teen parent struggling to make ends meet. Not many teen mothers like Allison had their parents buy her a condo as a wedding present.
I am surprised that her parents didn't hire a babysitter to give Allison a break here and there or Allison's mother would like to have spent time with her new granddaughter more.
'80sSitcoms 07-13-2020, 11:03 AM TV Fun Fact: The actress who played Allison, Heather Kerr, would go on to play a teenage Eunice in a flashback episode of "Mama's Family" in syndication several years later. And she was absolutely fantastic as a teenage Eunice, getting down Carol's speech and mannerisms.

Maybe they felt like the condo support was enough. Or maybe even with Grandma's visits, "Alli-kins" was still overwhelmed. That's a lot of pressure for a young girl.

'80s, what's the name of this episode?
Heather Kerr is one of the actresses who recently accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment; such a shame to hear of a FOL actress, even one who did only one episode, being treated so poorly by a powerful man in Hollywood.

Molly mentioned being sexually harrassed too. She said one incident happened when she was 13, which would have been at the time of the taping of The Tempest.

"Sins of the Mother"
Season 4, episode 20
November 13, 1987
I can just picture the show giving her videotapes of earlier Eunice appearances or of " The Family" sketches from The Carol Burnett Show to study. Or maybe she just knew it well enough from her own personal TV viewing and won the audition with no contest.

Molly has also stated that she was sexually harassed on the set of The Breakfast Club.

These days just saying "hello" to some females the wrong way is considered "sexual harassment", and she's most likely looking back at that time in hindsight through her 2020 "Me Too" eyes, so I personally take these stories of hers with a huge grain of salt.

What she said happened to her at 13 years old was more than just saying hello the wrong way.

You're putting words in my mouth. You know I didn't say someone said hello to her the wrong way. I find it suspect that she waited decades to share this and you see it all the time in this "Me Too" era.
Women suddenly sharing all these instances that happened decades ago, but you have to ask why didn't any of them report these incidences back then?
I'm not saying anything didn't happen to her, just that I personally take these stories with a huge grain of salt.

Heather Kerr states (https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-et-weinstein-heather-kerr-gloria-allred-20171020-story.html) she didn't report it back then because she thought no-one would believe her. He was a powerful man in Hollywood:
“I felt so powerless because he is, after all, very powerful and very well known and very successful. I didn’t think anyone would believe me. I was nobody. Why would they?” she said.
I don't find this difficult to believe.

My problem with these accusations is that after decades have gone by, they're incredibly difficult to substantiate. No one will ever know what the truth is except for the accuser and the accused. Everything else is just heresay.
This is why it's imperative to report these things immediately after they occur. To say they were afraid or that the person was powerful to me is an excuse and copout and only perpetuates the cycle to continue towards them as well as others.
I believe many of these women favored their Hollywood careers more than obtaining justice and therefore, imo that's acceptance of the rules of the game in order to play. They all could have left Hollywood and sought different careers, but by staying, to me that's acceptance of it.

But Heather Kerr did leave Hollywood. Her last role as an actress was in 1988, before the 1989 incident with Weinstein.

Can't say that i've heard of her, but if she left Hollywood then I don't understand what was stopping her from reporting the incidents at the time. She did the right thing by getting out of that insidious environment, but I find it incredible she still didn't say anything. If she was leaving Hollywood, she had nothing to lose then, and could've possibly have gotton the ball rolling 3 decades ago to begin making changes.
Who knows how many others would've come forward back then if they saw one person do it?
Anyway, I don't want to derail the whole thread on this when it was supposed to be about the student with the baby. My whole point was that I take these decades old allegations with a grain of salt. I didn't mean to start anything!

I don't necessarily disagree with you about taking old allegations with a grain of salt. I think the Scott Baio/Nicole Eggert situation is an example of an allegation that seems ludicrous, in part because Nicole denied that anything happened with Scott Baio until wildly changing her story shortly after declaring bankruptcy: it feels like there was a motive for her to change what she said.
(I still believe the reports that Scott Baio was a huge douche. Too many people have said this).
In the case of Weinstein and Bill Cosby, so many women have come forward that I just can't believe dozens of women are lying (I feel the same way about Bill Clinton). Some? Sure. But dozens?
Victims should come forward, to protect other potential victims. But I don't blame them if they don't. Heather was no-one in Hollywood: just an actress with no star power. Harvey Weinstein was a major player in Hollywood, and it's pretty clear he abused his power, in the same way that William Paley and so many others in charge did.
Heather became an acting coach: free to pursue her dreams and not have to rely on important men to ace an audition. I suspect she still felt she needed to stay mum about Weinstein because she might still want to do some acting in the future.
Also, I don't think you were "starting anything" bad. I enjoy these conversations.

BOMBSHELL is about 3 TV reporter women, who in order to work their way up on TV had to endure some sexual abuse from the big boss who hires them: it's a great movie and with a lot of emotional tension.....:so:so:so:so:so:so:so:so:so:so:so:so:so:so:so

That would have been nice!
Then they could have had a line about Nina's father still being a horndog.
