Jane Lynch to Host "The Weakest Link" Game Show Revival on NBC

The hit British import and international game show phenomenon "The Weakest Link" is making a comeback with Jane Lynch as host and executive producer. NBC has greenlit 13 episodes of the rapid-fire quiz show, with production to begin later this year.

Co-produced by BBC Studios’ Los Angeles production arm and Universal Television Alternative Studio, the new version will deliver the fast-paced and quick-witted pillars of the original British format created by the BBC with a few modern twists, NBC says.

The hybrid game show sees contestants answer general knowledge questions to bank prize money across multiple rounds. At the end of each round, the contestants vote out who they perceive to be the “Weakest Link” remaining.

“I’ve been a longtime fan of this game-changing quiz show since it first debuted,” said Lynch.

“Each time the phrase ‘You are the Weakest Link. Goodbye.’ passes my lips, it will be with great reverence and delight.”

The Weakest Link was another one of my favorite game shows to watch and I'm surprised that this new version is gonna get a third revival "the second one for NBC" And one of the main reasons I liked it was because of Anne Robinson and when she would say her lines I'd repeat them along with her. I liked The Weakest Link so much that I got the board game and the PC game of it too. As for Jane Lynch hosting The Weakest Link revival I think she is trying to become a big successful star for NBC by adding this show along with Hollywood Game Night to her game show hosting resume and I think she will do pretty great and better than George Gray who hosted the syndicated version of The Weakest Link

I saw the preview of The Weakest Link's revival and it looks impressive and I think judging how the ratings will be NBC will score a huge monster hit and since Jane Lynch becoming princess of game shows for NBC I think it will gain ratings because of Jane Lynch

Will Jane Lynch be as mean as The Weakest Link predecessor Anne Robinson? (https://www.theringer.com/tv/2020/9/28/21460193/the-weakest-link-reboot-jane-lynch-ann-robinson)

The BBC once dubbed Robinson "TV's rudest woman" (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/1123974.stm) when she hosted the British and American versions of The Weakest Link. Robinson's NBC version only lasted from 2001 to 2002. "In early promos, it looks like Lynch has carried over some of the spiciness of a predecessor who was dubbed 'the anti-Regis,'" says Claire McNear of tonight's premiere. "If there’s a little network schmaltziness, OK, but to some degree, meanness is built into The Weakest Link’s DNA—how much camaraderie can there be on a show that requires its contestants to tell one another to get the hell out? (Thanks to COVID-19, there’s no studio audience this time around.)"

Jane Lynch-led The Weakest Link reboot was perfectly competent but bizarrely flat (https://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/2020/09/weakest-link-nbc-review/)

"If you want a lot of trivia questions, it’s perfectly serviceable," says Andy Dehnart of NBC's reboot of the classic British game show. "By not being as cruel as the Anne Robinson version but also not as silly and joyous as ABC’s classic game shows, it’s found a bland middle of the road, where it’s easily the prime-time network game show that I’d vote off TV before any others."

"The Weakest Link" Renewed for Season 2 at NBC
by Peter White
January 25, 2021

"The Weakest Link" reboot is returning to NBC for a second season.

It will begin production for its 13-episode sophomore run later this year with casting now opened.

“Audiences have clearly embraced this smart, fun and completely addicting show, and it’s been a great addition to the NBC lineup,” said Jenny Groom, Executive Vice President, Unscripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

“A huge thank you to Jane, our friends at BBC Studios, Universal Television Alternative Studio and everyone who has been instrumental in keeping the DNA of the original format intact while simultaneously adding new flourishes that make it as relevant and popular as ever.”

“I’m thrilled that Weakest Link will return for another season,” Lynch said.

“It has been my honor to bring back this classic game show loved by millions. I also look forward to challenging the brain power of our players while baiting them to turn against one another for the chance to win some life-changing cash. And, of course, for my own enjoyment, and not to mention the opportunity to say ‘You are the weakest link. Goodbye.’ several times an episode.”
