I got to see The Donna Reed Show today and it's surprising that you don't see family oriented sitcoms like this on TV today because The Donna Reed Show was such a cute show and the debut episode of The Donna Reed Show is such a nice start to a wonderful sitcom. And I bet ABC got inspired by The Donna Reed Show for Neal Marlens and Carol Black to create Growing Pains because like the late Alan Thicke's character Jason Seaver Donna Reed's TV husband was a doctor as well. Too bad the family decided to postpone their weekend vacation due to Jeff's chicken pox but they were able to spend time at home. I was impressed with this show and will get another chance to see it again

Hi, Bestie! I used to watch that show as a kid. Thank you for reminding me of it. I will try to see where I can watch it again.

You know folks, I hate to be so bold:rolleyes:, but there is such a thing as DVDs. In fact you can watch the 1st 5 seasons all uncut and wonderful. Here's the secret hiding place where they're available, something called Amazon:

OH Nuts!

And another option is Tubi where you can see the first five seasons for free. Also YT has many S7 & S8 eps. The down side of Tubi is you get Commercial interruptions.

As Hazel Anyday suggests, buying the show outright, if you love love love it, isn’t a bad option. I just checked out Amazon and it’s $82 there. Not a bad price, but if you just want to get your feet wet, the online streaming is another way to go.

At this point, now that I have approx 1,500 DVDs I’m more inclined to see what I can get for free, unless a drop dead bargain comes my way OR I’m really smitten with the show. The last entire series I bought was WINGS — for $30. At THAT price I couldn’t resist.

I started watching this show on Decades channel each morning after Antenna TV left my area and i'm really enjoying it. I think I even like it a little better than Father Knows Best.

The only slight complaint is that daughter Mary. Oh my God she's like a robotic Stepford Wife and acts nothing like a teenager. The way she walks, talks and dresses is so uptight you just want to scream at the TV to pull that stick out of her backside lol. She's like a 30 year old woman than a teen, it's so weird.

I call her Needlebutt because as Roseanne said on one of her episodes about an uptight neighbor---"you couldn't drag a needle out of her butt with a tractor!" and that's Mary Stone.

Jeff acts like a normal teenage boy and I like him as well as the parents---I just don't know why the sister is the way she is...even Betty on Father Knows Best acted much more like a normal relaxed teenager than Mary. Did girls really act so prim and proper like her back then?

I'm a little late to this discussion, but I agree, Mary was an uptight snot, unlikeable in all approx. 5 seasons she was on the show, and even in her later, wig-wearing guest appearances. Even the late-arriving Trisha wasn't as annoying, as contrived as her appearance was.

And Jeff was a normal kid early on, and a normal teenager later.

I must be a weirdo. I kind of like the way she acts. She is different than princess on FKB. But I am also thinking about mary in season 5
