View Full Version : You take the good, you take the bad: good and bad sides of every season
FOL-FAN-ITA 07-04-2020, 07:07 PM In this thread we can talk about the good and bad sides of every season, what you like and what you don't like.
Season 1
Good: funny episodes, the girls have different personalities
Bad: sometimes the writing needs to be reworked. Script terribly unbalanced
Season 2
Good: Mrs. G is the only adult in the cast, Charlotte Rae looks really good with her new body, the writing improved
Bad: this is my favorite season but sometimes I miss the girls and Mr. Bradley.
Season 3
Good: the girls are still on probation
Bad: in this season we don't see much of Eastland student body. Some episodes are not so good. Tootie is boring this season. The spin off attempts
Season 4
Good: a little improvement in comedy and writing after season 3
Bad: last season that takes place at Eastland
Season 5
Good: Mrs. Garrett opens her own gourmet food shop. The girls are still together
Bad: the addition of Kelly. Some episodes are depressing (like the one when Natalie's father dies)
Season 6
Good: more comedy episodes
Bad: Mrs. Garrett starts her transformation into a POD
Season 7
Good: Mrs. Garrett and the girls are equal partners in the new business
Bad: Mrs. Garrett absent in several episodes. George isn't used well. The OOH story
Season 8
Good: Beverly Ann isn't a clone of Edna. The writing is very strong this year
Bad: Mrs. Garrett's departure
Season 9
Good: Each girl has her "lives happily ever after":lol:
Bad: in this season I have the impression the girls are not a group as they were before. Beverly Ann, Andy and Pippa aren't used well.
valentina warner 07-04-2020, 07:24 PM I agree about everything, except that MRS G's transformation starts in season 7 (not season 6).
In season 6 MRS G still had great episodes such as 'Working it out' and 'The interview show'.
Season 7 on the other hand, had MRS G behaving rather absent/distract and she stopped giving advice or 'heart to heart' talk to the girls (another reason why this is my least favourite season).

Yeah, Mrs. G became essentially another character in season 7, the love and caring woman of the previous years was gone. But in season 6 she was absent in six episodes (?).
rusty spike 07-05-2020, 12:41 PM What is POD?
I've seen it mentioned in various threads about FOL.
TIA
rusty spike 07-05-2020, 12:44 PM Season 7
Isn't this the season where a new writers team was brought in as well as new producers/directors?

MRS G was absent in quite a few episodes during the season 6, but the times she was in them she really made up for it!!!!!:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

Hi Rusty!
I mean robot, a character changed so much from the beginning (as Mrs. Garrett did in season 7) that became a robot in the end, something different, a POD :lol::lol:

FOL-FAN-ITA 07-05-2020, 12:54 PM Season 7
Isn't this the season where a new writers team was brought in as well as new producers/directors?
Yes. The worst season. They should have never closed Edna's Edibles

Thank you for agreeing with me FOL FAN ITA!!!!! 'Edna's Edibles' was truly magical!!!!! (I never knew they changed the writers on season 7 as well though: how many writers did they plan on having lol????):typing::typing::typing::typing::typing::typing::typing::typing::typing::typing:

Edna's Edibles was a personal triumph for Mrs. Garrett. After a life spent working for other people, first as a housekeeper, then housemother and then school dietitian, having her own shop (and a successfull spin off show that lasted more than the original) was a great improvement.
They changed a lot for season 7
New theme song
New setting
New cast members
New studio
New production company
New writers (if I'm correct, two of them were Austin and Irma Kalish, who previously had worked for Maude's spin off, Good Times)
TV Guy 07-05-2020, 07:59 PM Season 7
Isn't this the season where a new writers team was brought in as well as new producers/directors?
No. Half of season 7 was run by Deirdre Fay and Stuart Wolpert, who had been with the show for several seasons. And the other half was run by Jack Elinson, who returned to the show (he had been the executive producer in the early seasons). Season 8 was when there were new producers who hadn’t worked on the show before.

MRS G not only triumphed in her career, but she was also an expert in dealing with teenagers: she was so lovable and caring, that she gained their trust and heart (first with the DRUMMONDS, and then with the 'Eastland' girls):loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya:

It really was a time of major changes. It became a very different show.

Yeah, the ugly spin off
valentina warner 07-06-2020, 02:46 PM Season 8 is definitely better than season 7!

Oh yes, season 8 is better than s7, a lot better. But without Mrs. Garrett the show wasn't the same anymore
