...are currently on the forbidden site, for the time being. I am going to watch them later tonight and I must tell you all I am super excited. It's been more than 30 years since I've seen them!

Seems like I saw them or some of them once a very long time ago. I can't remember... did they ever show those segments later on with Robert Stack re-dubbing the narration?

As far as I'm aware, no, but he did narrate updates for the cases that were solved/had further developments (Robert Weeks/John Burns/Roger Wheeler).

Thanks for the tip! Watching now.

Also my girl Bonnie's segment is finally back on the forbidden site, along with some other rare segments.

A UM renaissance like this was unthinkable just a couple years ago.

Well that makes you an even bigger Saint. Thank you for getting these out for all of us to enjoy!

The video quality has taken a dive and I wouldn't recommend posting any UM segments to the forbidden site. Obviously you risk having your channel removed but you also risk not being allowed to make another account.

The first three pre Stack specials were discovered on old VHS tapes and began circulating in 2004. Better copies (which the above seem to be sourced from) were located in 2009 and began circulating as well. There was even a guy on iOffer selling the specials along with other "rarities." Every now and again, the specials are posted on the forbidden site (or a similar site) where they remain for a few weeks/months until CM finds them and takes them down. These specials were not part of the various syndication packages (except the Farina versions) likely because the producers did not want to pay royalties to the estates of Burr and Malden, nor did they care to re-narrate/re-film them again when Stack was alive. Though, they did have Dennis Farina re-narrate some of the segments and put them in those episodes.

The point is that none of this is groundbreaking or proprietary. Hopefully people will see them. Think about this: There is a whole new generation of fans coming thanks to the Netflix series. So, wouldn't be it be cool for them to see the early history of the show? I think this thread alone is proof that it's a viable idea/concept.

Some of the segments were re-done with Stack narrating. I can't think of which ones right now.

I have all 7 specials.

I have all 7 specials.

To my knowledge, Stack narrated the following....

An update on the heirs of George Marsh (from special 3 w/ Malden)
An update on the sentencing of Robert Weeks (from special 2 w/ Malden)
An update on the identification of a suspect in the Jai Lai murders (from special 1 w/ Burr)
Updates on the arrest of Theodore K as the Unabomber (from special 3 w/ Malden)

On the Third Anniversary Show, Stack interviewed Pat Mealbach (from Special 1 w/ Burr)

Stack also narrated segments that touched on reports from the early specials such as the 100th Case Solved special which mentioned the arrest of Jon Burns (special 2) and showed some footage from that episode.

Along similar lines, the Unabomber/Zodiac episode featured footage and reenactments from Special 3 (Malden).

I know Stack re-narrated the John Burns segment (with update) and the Glen Consagra segment.

I never got a chance to see them when they’ve been uploaded in the past so I was pretty happy when they were available last night. I made sure to grab them before they get taken down.

Always found it funny how Stack was the third choice as he agreed to less money than Burr & Malden to host the show, yet was so great at it, while both of them were a poor fit & Malden looked ridiculous in that private detective attire.

I think Burr and Malden did fine. Although their deliveries of "Maybe you can help solve a mystery?" needed work.

Now that I have seen them I think that Burr and Malden were pretty good. As I said previous I think that if either of them, especially Burr, had continued to host we would all hold them in as high esteem as we do Robert Stack.

I will give you that Malden did look a little silly at times. One of the specials he is chilling on top of a picnic table for a few segments.

Don't see it-they both came across like they were doing it between other jobs. Stack like he was really into the whole thing. Plus he had an eerie persona & look those two didn't. Burr was a lot better than Malden for sure-he had an air of seriousness/gravitas, while Malden came off as a bit of a light entertainment/comedy guy. I don't think the show would have been anywhere near as popular, or a cult deal like it is here with either of them hosting it.

I contacted "Season 0" to see if he had any trades. These specials on YouTube appear to be sourced from the private tracker known as "Myspleen".

This person said that Cosgrove-Meurer approved the first three specials that are on YouTube and that they are "monetizing" from it.

Is it me, or does the composite of what John Burns might look like today (or at least when the episode aired) look like the photo of the man who thought he was Billy the Kid as Robert Stack talks about the man being denied his pardon?

My earliest memory of watching Unsolved Mysteries on TV was with its host Karl Malden. So it must've been either Special 2 or Special 3 I first watched on TV as a child with my ma🤔 As I grew older I thought I'd imagined it since so many I conversed with couldn't remember anyone other than Robert Stack hosting the classic series🤦*♂️ Not until the 2000s with the advent of the internet did I finally learn there actually were a small number of special episodes hosted by others, including Karl Malden, pre-Robert Stack, so I hadn't imagined it at all!😂

Good, I have never understood why they have this mountain of gold for a large fan base yet sat on it. Still don't get why they haven't marketed the music properly either-a lot of us no longer have vinyl record players & even if you don't want to go to the trouble of making CD's, they can make it streaming/downloadable.

Glad to see whatever obstacles prevented these from showing up have finally been overcome. I know myself, I've got individual segments from these specials, but have never seen them as presented here.
