Today I got some rice that I cannot figure out what type it is. From what I saw from the bag the rice is a golden color and it looks kind of tan colored as well. Mom and I think it's jasmine rice but it looks like basmati rice to me. When I usually buy rice I get white rice or Rice-A-Roni because I have never seen this unusual rice before. Could this rice be jasmine rice and have you ever eaten it before? Mom and I researched cookbooks to identify this rice but found no answer. I do know that basmati rice is from India and is used in Indian food. Has anyone seen this rice and can you tell me the correct name of it?

I buy brown basmati rice at Trader Joe's. It's suppose to have an aroma and nutty taste. But I have never notice either. For years we ate white rice, then switched to brown because we were told it was healthier. Maybe, maybe not.

I like them both but eat them rarely and in small portions.

I have Jasmine rice in my cupboard right now ! I didn't even realize it was Jasmine rice till I read the bag the other day when I was cooking some after I had read this thread!! My Hubby bought it, I think it was the only rice he could find in the pandemic LOL, it's a big bag of rice ! ;)

I'd say Jasmine rice is a little subtly different than regular white rice ? A little bit sweeter aroma when cooking and a little sweeter taste to it ! :)

I probably have eaten it before in a restaurant but have never cooked balsamic rice !;)
