View Full Version : TV shows were a single cast member is persona non grata in real life
Or is hated by a majority of the cast in real life?
The most obvious examples that come to my mind are:
*Tina Louise on Gilligan's Island
*Dustin Diamond on Saved by the Bell
*Suzanne Somers on Three's Company
*Chevy Chase (https://www.quora.com/Which-celebrities-are-mean-2) on Saturday Night Live and Community
*Shannen Doherty on Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed. Although I would like to assume that Shannen has since reconciled with Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling, given that she took part in the BH 90210 pseudo sequel series last year.
*Delta Burke on Designing Women. Although she eventually reconciled with her castmates and the producers, considering that she would play Suzanne Sugarbaker again in the short-lived Women of the House spin-off.
*Janet Hubert on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
*Amanda Bearse on Married...with Children (at least according to Ed O'Neill)
Yong Fang 07-02-2020, 11:41 PM William Shatner of Star Trek probably fits. Supposedly from all I have read and heard over the years, none of the cast members like him at all, and George Tekai (Sulu) basically hates him. Even James Doohan who played Mr Scott (my favorite TOS character) who by all accounts a very nice and kind person, also couldn’t stand Shatner and refused to speak with him for years but supposedly made up before his death.
I dare say Chevy Chase and the original cast of SNL.
Merry24 07-02-2020, 11:52 PM Joyce Dewitt & Suzanne Somers & Richard Kline are friends now.
I don’t understand what’s going on with the cast of Saved By The Bell with also not including Lark Voorhies.
Roseanne & The Connors. It sounds like John Goodman & Laurie Metcalf & Lecy Goranson are friends with Roseanne
treky 07-03-2020, 02:17 AM I've heard that just about everyone who's worked with Chevy Chase doesn't have very nice things to say about him. My cousin who worked on the show COMMUNITY call him "a really nasty s-o-b".
*Lisa Bonet on The Cosby Show (at least prior to Bill Cosby's own fall from grace). Lisa was usually the one who was conspicuously absent from cast reunions and retrospectives. And of course, everybody knows that she infamously had a falling out with Cosby and the producers towards the end of The Cosby Show's run (which is why Denise is absent from the final season).
*Valerie Harper on Valerie (later The Hogan Family) - This is the first really predominate example that I can think of in my lifetime, where the actual star of a show was fired and the show continued onward. This was long before Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men) and Roseanne Barr (the revival of Roseanne, which was turned into The Conners).
*Andy Dick on Newsradio - There's that infamous story concerning Jon Lovitz blaming Dick for indirectly being partially responsible for Phil Hartman's murder, because he gave Brynn Hartman, a recovering addict, drugs shortly before she shot and killed Phil.
*Teri Hatcher (https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=12285936) on Desperate Housewives - Nicollette Sheridan once refereed to Hatcher as the "meanest woman in the world".
*Lea Michele is currently (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/lea-michele%E2%80%99s-former-co-star-calls-her-a-%E2%80%98despicable-horrible-human-being%E2%80%99.3673516/) shaping up to be this for Glee.
*Diana Muldaur on Star Trek: The Next Generation - I don't know for sure if she didn't get along with her castmembers, but do know that Dr. Katherine Pulaski was a very unpopular character among Trek fans. And the rectified it by bringing Gates McFadden's Dr. Beverly Crusher back the following year. Muldaur herself admited that she didn't have a fun time working on TNG (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diana_Muldaur#Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation).
70s show watcher 07-03-2020, 11:43 PM topher grace by most accounts is/was not very well liked by most of his that 70s show castmates
stevea 07-04-2020, 08:53 PM I'd bet working with Charlie Sheen was no picnic.

Suzanne Somers reconciled with both John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt years ago.
*Frances Beaver (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5aRvTFFnBE) on The Andy Griffith Show
*The Olsen Twins on Full House. They seem to be amongst everybody else, the most ashamed from their association with that show.
*Max Baer Jr. on The Beverly Hillbillies. He's kind of like the male version of Tina Louise in that he blames his role as Jethro Bodine for typecasting him and undermining his acting career. He declined to reprise his role in the 1981 made for TV movie (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_of_the_Beverly_Hillbillies) that reunited the surviving cast members.
*Kirk Cameron on Growing Pains, at least during the latter portion of the show's production when Cameron became extremely difficult to work with after he became a born again Christian.
Yong Fang 07-09-2020, 10:07 PM Max Baer became wealthy by making some low budget movies called Macon County Line and did some other stuff in Hollywood. So much so he tries to bankroll opening a casino in Las Vegas that fell through.
factsoflife 07-09-2020, 10:12 PM Katherine Heigl and "Grey's Anatomy"--- I don't think anybody from the cast still speaks to her and Shonda Rhimes is certainly never going to cast her again.
TV Guy 07-10-2020, 05:22 AM Teri Hatcher of Desperate Housewives.
RetroGuy2000 07-10-2020, 07:51 AM Shelley Long on Cheers; I remember there were many disputes between her and the rest of the cast, although I think they mostly mended fences years ago. Many people have mentioned (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThUkiCReFKo) it over the years.

There was this recent "blind item" (https://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2020/06/blind-item-2-reader-blind.html) that alluded (http://www.agcwebpages.com/BLINDITEMS/2020/JUNE.html) to Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson sharing a mutual dislike to a "snooty" actress. And said "snooty" actress wasn't Rhea Perlman, Kirstie Alley, nor Bebe Neuwirth.
MikeLutton 07-11-2020, 02:07 AM who was it?
RetroGuy2000 07-11-2020, 04:34 AM who was it?
Shelley Long.
I could be wrong, but I believe Dustin Diamond at least apologized for being such a jerk these last few years.
Has Kim Cattrall and Sex and the City been mentioned yet? Her character was notorious for sleeping around. And if I'm not mistaken, Cattrall said the role of Samantha ruined her chance of being taken seriously as an actor. When Sarah Jessica Parker offered Cattrall condolences after her brother died, Kim blasted SJP saying she wasn’t her friend and never has been.

Shatner wrote about that in his book STAR TREK MEMORIES and the follow-up STAR TREK MOVIE MEMORIES where he says that him and Doohan made up and became good friends because they spent so much time together filming their scenes
dee2364 01-23-2021, 01:19 PM The first person I thought of was Janet Huber (the original Aunt Viv) from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. She spent years bad mouthing the show and Wil Smith, pretty much burning her bridges.
The second person was Jeremy Gelbwaks from The Partridge Family. Supposedly, he was a real PITA on the set, which is why he was let go. I think I even remember reading that he was biting people???
stevea 01-23-2021, 01:26 PM Speaking of the Partridge Family, what about Susan Dey? I know she shunned the reunion on the Today Show. Does anyone know if she was difficult?
As far as Gelbwaks goes, if he really was biting people, I'm surprised they kept him for the full season.

It seems as though Janet and Will have patched things up, at long last. That reunion, where they spoke to each other for the first time in 30 years, was totally moving.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!

Janet Hubert is seemingly on good terms with everyone from Fresh Prince Of Bel Air except Alfonso Ribeiro. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 30 year reunion aired on November 19, 2020...

I don't think he was doing that the entire time. I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back. I'm struggling to remember where I heard this story. It might have been from Danny Bonaduce on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast years ago. I just remember him or someone else painting him as really out of control.
Anyway, both Dave Madden on Bonaduce weighed in on the entire affair on this site:
http://www.cmongethappy.com/interviews/db/db3.html
http://www.cmongethappy.com/interviews/dm/daveint4.html
They both said that JB was fired for picking fights with Danny by kicking him in the shins under the table right before shooting a scene.
