View Full Version : No more UM on Amazon Prime
Todd Mueller 06-22-2020, 01:26 PM I went to watch an episode of UM today on Amazon Prime and it said "Buy this episode for $0.99. I thought that was odd and maybe my account was logged out, but I was still logged in. I checked and other shows were working normal.
I just went on Amazon chat and asked, and I was told, "It looks like the licensing agreement for that show has changed so now it is "paid" content."
I didn't see an announcement anywhere that was leaving Amazon. I know there are other places to watch it, but I really liked being able to watch on Amazon. Is anyone else seeing this or is this just me? I searched online but found nothing.
alistaircranium 06-22-2020, 01:30 PM The whole series is free to watch on the official Unsolved Mysteries YouTube channel.

Thanks -- I know it is available to watch other places. My point is that it seems to have been dropped from Prime without any kind of notice.
I wonder if that was just a mistake or if there is something cooking because of the new episodes coming to Netflix in July.
TheCars1986 06-22-2020, 02:12 PM It's working for me on Prime, but it shows up like I have to buy it. It's letting me watch them on Prime.
I show that only seasons 5,8,10,11,& 12 are available to me to watch as a prime member. The other seasons have to be bought either as a season, or per episode.

It still amazes me that we battled Cosgrove & Mauer for a decade to get segments up on YouTube only for them to always report copyright violation and get our accounts deleted. Eventually some of us started secret accounts and used different tags to throw them off track but they'd always eventually discover them and get us deleted yet again.
Now there's an official Unsolved Mysteries YouTube channel.

Been there, done that.

When it was on Prime, that was fair enough. If there had been episodes for sale in iTunes, that would have been fair enough. But for all those years when there was literally no other way to watch it , it was absolutely infuriating:mad:

Don't get why these companies/people work so hard getting stuff taken down when they have no interest in providing it-WWE legal spend half their lives running around getting stuff taken down that is sitting in their vault waiting to be uploaded to the Network & people are begging them to do so-but they never bother. As said the entire series has been uploaded free onto YT by Filmrise ages ago for free-it makes no sense.
hostedbyrobertstack 06-23-2020, 06:10 AM I just went to play this this morning and noticed ads for actual products, so I was very confused. Thinking Amazon now started playing ads, I looked into it a bit more. Now at the bottom of the seasons, it says "Included with your IMDB channel subscription." So, it's still free, just has ads. You just need to download the IMDB channel on amazon, it's free to watch, just has ads.

This is what I came here to say. Usually you get a 20 second ad for Jack Ryan at the beginning, but now you have that seconds counter in the corner and they can be upward of 70 seconds. I also see that mention of IMDB, so not sure what that is.
coatjones 06-23-2020, 01:59 PM According to the UM Facebook page, it was taken off Amazon Prime today for a "technical issue."
Todd Mueller 06-23-2020, 02:03 PM It is working again for me! The guy at Amazon must have had bad info... But now there are commercials. WTH???
Hawkee 06-24-2020, 02:54 AM Hello Todd,
Are you checking the correct version of Unsolved Mysteries Season 1? Because if you are searching for Unsolved Mysteries Season 1 on Amazon Prime there are two versions and one version will say buy and the other version will have a white Prime banner indicating it is free. I decided to look it up myself to help you this morning and that's all I discovered
Hope this advice helps you Todd,
Bestie
infinityluxe 06-25-2020, 03:07 AM I am highly pissed because I go to bed to UM on Prime every night. I was shocked when I went to watch it and it is now hosted by IMDB with commercials. I should have copped those amzn webrips when I had the chance I took for granted Prime would have it for a while.
Prime has been very fickle lately. A lot of older movies I enjoy that were included with prime have been either removed or now they want you to pay. These movies are 30 year old made for tv films. Amzn seems to have gotten quite greedy during this pandemic. I pay for ID channel add on and they added a ton of shows and I thought oh great. I go to watch them and they want you to pay on top of the ID add on. I am really starting to dislike Prime. I could watch on Youtube but I preferred Prime.

I agree. This new deal with commercials is ridiculous. I'm already paying for Prime and now I have to watch commercials I can't skip? The Prime app is so much better because it keeps your progress and works seamlessly between my iPad, AppleTV, and Roku. Amazon is getting greedy.
I always hoped old UM would be moved to Netflix once the new ones came out. Now I'm stuck with commercials on Prime.
Chichester Crowe 06-25-2020, 06:04 PM Anybody else here download every last episode when it hit the forbidden site?
I never have to worry about CM and their nonsense again.
isotope 06-26-2020, 03:06 AM It irritates me greatly that individual segments are no longer on YT, like in the good old days BT (before takedown)
Its annoying have to fast forward through all these segments about lost loves, magic stones, crop circles, mystical chocolate, "amnesiacs" who are OBVIOUSLY faking it, people who gave their entire life savings to a con man/woman after the second date, "mysterious creatures" that are probably a bear that somebody saw one night while drunk and other nonsense, just to get to the good stuff.

It’s a shame you feel that way. The whole appeal of Unsolved Mysteries was that it wasn’t just true crime. If it’s just true crime you want, there are a hundred other shows you can watch.
atomicfizz 07-02-2020, 08:57 PM I'm so confused with this on Prime. When I go in to "continue" watching, it says the episodes are .99 but then it lets me play them? I also noticed the ads in the middle of the show. I guess their only sponsor is Fresh Step.

It's because IMDB TV probably got hold of the streaming rights and IMDB TV plays ads.
Little trick I've learned though to make your viewing easier is, go ahead and watch all the ads up front and then take your timer back to the beginning and your episode won't be interrupted. It's so much less annoying that way.
infinityluxe 07-03-2020, 04:54 AM I just went ahead and downloaded the Filmrise Truecrime app on Roku and I watch it on there with ads. I do like that it doesn't do that stupid "are you still watching" crap like the other ones. It plays continuously.
bluejazz87 07-03-2020, 06:07 AM Why doesn't everyone just watch it on YouTube now? Not sure what the problem is.

Thank you!! I tried saying this earlier but no one would listen. Guess they’d rather just give their money to Jeff Bezos.
atomicfizz 07-03-2020, 01:25 PM OK watching on YT now. Thanks.
