Having just solidified its position as the No. 1 network in entertainment among Adults 18-49 for the first time in four years, ABC is announcing its 2020 premiere schedule. The network’s previously announced programming slate includes renewals for 20 series and two straight-to-series orders from its current crop of pilots – David E. Kelley’s thriller “Big Sky” and the comedy “Call Your Mother” (formerly “My Village”) from Kari Lizer (“The New Adventures of Old Christine”) – as well as the revival of alternative series “Supermarket Sweep” with Leslie Jones.

Note: New seasons of “American Idol,” “The Bachelor,” “black-ish,” “For Life” and “mixed-ish” will be premiering later in the season.

BIG SKY
From visionary storyteller David E. Kelley (“Big Little Lies”) comes “Big Sky,” a thriller created by Kelley, who will write multiple episodes and serve as showrunner in its premiere season. Private detectives Cassie Dewell and Cody Hoyt join forces with his estranged wife and ex-cop, Jenny Hoyt, to search for two sisters who have been kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote highway in Montana. But when they discover that these are not the only girls who have disappeared in the area, they must race against the clock to stop the killer before another woman is taken. She decides her place is with her family and as she reinserts herself into their lives, her kids realize they might actually need her more than they thought. “Call Your Mother” is produced by Sony Pictures Television & ABC Studios. SUPERMARKET SWEEP
ABC is bringing back the classic TV game show “Supermarket Sweep,” hosted and executive produced by Emmy® Award-nominated comedienne and actress Leslie Jones. The fast-paced and energetic series follows three teams of two as they battle it out using their grocery shopping skills and knowledge of merchandise to win big cash prizes. The original format aired on ABC from 1965-1967 and went on to become a global sensation. It was adapted in 13 international territories and, most recently, relaunched in the UK. “Supermarket Sweep” is produced by Fremantle. Executive producers include Leslie Jones, Hunter Seidman and Jennifer Mullin, Alycia Rossiter and Wes Kauble.

WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE (SEASON 2)

The iconic game show is a Sony Pictures Television format that has been adapted in over 120 countries and has won over 65 awards worldwide, including a BAFTA, an Emmy and seven National Television Awards in the UK.

Update 6/18:

ABC is making a change to their 2020-2021 Fall Schedule:

black-ish, which was announced yesterday as a midseason show, will now return this fall on Wednesday night in the 9:30pm slot. The previously announced new comedy for Wed/9:30pm, Call Your Mother, moves to midseason.

Here is ABC's revised Wednesday night lineup for Fall:

Call Your Mother had sounded interesting. But now it is getting screwed over being pulled from the fall lineup for Black-Ish. I won't have any use for ABC Wednesdays then.

Two things I hate about this ABC Fall schedule:

1. The Good Doctor was not moved to Tuesdays at 10 as I had hoped, and instead, ABC will try-out <i>yet another</i> new drama series that will crash and burn after a few episodes (Big Sky).
2. The reduction of the ABC comedy schedule (as I feared), fuelled by The Bachelorette ending-up in the fall. I wanted three comedy hours.:( Now they're restricting their available comedy slots just like NBC did in recent years.:mad: The Conners will force American Housewife to lose its anchor slot, and the Blach-Ish/Mixed-Ish hour is being bumped to midseason. It is possible that once The Bachelorette's season ends, ABC will gain-back a comedy hour on Tuesdays (likely at 8) with the two "Ish" shows. I'll just be mad if the reduction to two comedy hours ends up being permanent. :angryfire Here's hoping both The Goldbergs and Black-Ish get renewals for 2021-22.

I wondered why they cancelled many comedies and this answers it. Honestly I don't like they only have comedies on Wednesday and I think quite a few shows renewed or new will be in trouble. Also, important to remember that the Conners doesn't get a full season so that spot will be taken by something waiting at midseason. I also predict Mixedish will be canceled. I previously thought ABC would keep it until it reached syndication but also thought that about Schooled. Even though Schooled was a bigger hit than either Blackish or Mixedish (and the Goldbergs is bigger than all of them) it got canceled. Also, one of the following will be announced as a "final season": Blackish, American Housewife or the Goldbergs. Of the three the least likely is Goldbergs and the most likely is Blackish because their ratings have fallen really far and more than Goldbergs or American Housewife.

On the positive, pretty cool Supermarket Sweep is coming back. I like Millionaire but I hope they don't do what they did years ago and overplay it.

The Good Doctor was not moved to Tuesdays at 10 as I had hoped, and instead, ABC will try-out <i>yet another</i> new drama series that will crash and burn after a few episodes (Big Sky).While Tuesdays at 10:00 did not do shows like Emergence and Kevin (Probably) Saves the World any favors, the difference with Big Sky is it will have a strong Bachelorette lead-in vs. a low rated comedy, so Big Sky has a better chance of success. The Bachelorette is also a stronger lead-in than past its prime Dancing with the Stars, which is the lead-in Big Sky would have if it aired on Mondays.

ABC owns both Blackish and American Housewife, which is why they favor them. Ironically, since sitcoms like Goldbergs and Modern Family both do/did better than both of them but aren't owned by ABC.

No biggie. That is very possible too, that it'll be another year for all three.My point really was that I believe out of the three Blackish will be the first to go and Goldbergs last. The reason is simple: The Goldbergs is the biggest of the three, always has been. I still think they protect both Blackish and AH way more than they should and far more than the Goldbergs. I'm still watching the current season of The Good Doctor on the ABC website, and I have to admit, its viewership has taken a fair hit this year because of the COVID storyline it's doing, and the belief that scripted shows are supposed to be an escape from reality (that's gotten more difficult due to COVID safety measures increasing production costs, resulting in season orders being shortened). And, no, season 5 can't be the final season for The Good Doctor; I want to see it reach 100 episodes first. It's more difficult for a show with 18 episodes a season to reach such a milestone than for those working 22-episode "full" seasons, and 100 episodes will require TGD to get a sixth-season renewal. And maybe its ratings will recover once its COVID storyline ends. Out fight regarding an end-date for The Goldbergs and Black-Ish earlier this year got so nasty, I'm just afraid to get into a similar dispute right now. Also, Good Doctor's Live+7 ratings are higher than those for Big Sky at this moment (So far, only the L+7 ratings for BS's first episode have been recorded, by Deadline (https://deadline.com/2020/12/big-sky-abc-l7-multiplatform-ratings-new-series-premiere-1234636131/)).

AH very possible. The Goldbergs, not a chance. It's gone down in ratings but still ranked higher than most of the other shows, plus it's been successful for ABC and I can't imagine it without announcing a final season. It is closer to the end and wouldn't surprise me if it ends next year or the next (but don't see it going further).

Now that The Wonder Years remake has officially been ordered to series, I am revising the schedule I made. At first I had been skeptical about it but have been more interested ever since Dule Hill from Psych was cast. Queens sounds absolutely revolting though, too bad we are getting that hip hop crap in fall instead of Epic. At this point if Epic is ordered to series I would wait for fall 2022 where it still needs to air Sundays at 8:00 for the best chance of success. The Bachelorette has already been announced for Summer and Fall seasons, so it is happening. Rebel and American Housewife got canceled.

Before that Queens show got a series order, I was going to state that I would do the same Fall 2021 schedule CatsRule initially proposed (aside from cancellations already confirmed after it was posted), except have The Good Doctor finally move to Tuesdays (which would mean going up against New Amsterdam), swapping nights with Big Sky, and announce final season for The Goldbergs after George Segal died last March.

Also, why Summer AND Fall seasons for The Bachelorette this year? That'll just be too much. Always a perfect way to waste space for scripted programs.

It should be noted that Black-Ish and The Goldbergs can be considered very, very lucky for getting to produce full 20-plus episode seasons during the COVID-Pandemic-hindered 2020-21 U.S. Broadcast TV season (Black-Ish has 21, The Goldbergs has 22).

Also, The Blacklist (over on NBC) will also end up at 22 episodes for its current season, according to The Futon Critic (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/showatch/blacklist/listings/). But unlike The Goldbergs and Black-Ish, The Blacklist's current season will spill into June (its season finale doesn't air until June 23rd, outside of its regular Friday slot). I thought The Blacklist was going to end at just 18 episodes because of COVID safety protocols adding to shows' production costs.
