Update 6/18:

ABC is making a change to their 2020-2021 Fall Schedule:

black-ish, which was announced yesterday as a midseason show, will now return this fall on Wednesday night in the 9:30pm slot. The previously announced new comedy for Wed/9:30pm, Call Your Mother, moves to midseason.

Here is ABC's revised Wednesday night lineup for Fall:

Wednesday
8:00-8:30 The Goldbergs
8:30-9:00 American Housewife
9:00-9:30 The Conners
9:30-10:00 Black-ish
10:00-11:00 Stumptown

Call Your Mother had sounded interesting. But now it is getting screwed over being pulled from the fall lineup for Black-Ish. I won't have any use for ABC Wednesdays then.

Two things I hate about this ABC Fall schedule:

1. The Good Doctor was not moved to Tuesdays at 10 as I had hoped, and instead, ABC will try-out yet another new drama series that will crash and burn after a few episodes (Big Sky).
2. The reduction of the ABC comedy schedule (as I feared), fuelled by The Bachelorette ending-up in the fall. I wanted three comedy hours.:( Now they're restricting their available comedy slots just like NBC did in recent years. The Conners will force American Housewife to lose its anchor slot, and the Blach-Ish/Mixed-Ish hour is being bumped to midseason. It is possible that once The Bachelorette's season ends, ABC will gain-back a comedy hour on Tuesdays (likely at 8) with the two "Ish" shows. I'll just be mad if the reduction to two comedy hours ends up being permanent. :angryfire Here's hoping both The Goldbergs and Black-Ish get renewals for 2021-22.

I wondered why they cancelled many comedies and this answers it. Honestly I don't like they only have comedies on Wednesday and I think quite a few shows renewed or new will be in trouble. Also, important to remember that the Conners doesn't get a full season so that spot will be taken by something waiting at midseason. I also predict Mixedish will be canceled. I previously thought ABC would keep it until it reached syndication but also thought that about Schooled. Even though Schooled was a bigger hit than either Blackish or Mixedish (and the Goldbergs is bigger than all of them) it got canceled. Also, one of the following will be announced as a "final season": Blackish, American Housewife or the Goldbergs. Of the three the least likely is Goldbergs and the most likely is Blackish because their ratings have fallen really far and more than Goldbergs or American Housewife.

On the positive, pretty cool Supermarket Sweep is coming back. I like Millionaire but I hope they don't do what they did years ago and overplay it.

The Bachelorette is also a stronger lead-in than past its prime Dancing with the Stars, which is the lead-in Big Sky would have if it aired on Mondays.

Since the original release of their fall schedule ABC has already made a change. Black-Ish will now air in the fall Wednesdays at 9:30. As a result new comedy Call Your Mother gets screwed over and has to wait for midseason. As for American Housewife, it did not deserve an anchor slot in the first place. American Housewife did horrible when it aired Wednesdays at 9:00 after Modern Family had finished.

ABC owns both Blackish and American Housewife, which is why they favor them. Ironically, since sitcoms like Goldbergs and Modern Family both do/did better than both of them but aren't owned by ABC.

Alright, IllinoisTVFan, I'm sorry for suggesting next season would be The Goldbergs's last and then flipping-out and biting your head off about it. Maybe we don't need to say anything about its fate until its next season premiere. I have bad news for anyone insisting on any ABC comedies being in its final season for 2020-21: All three of Black-Ish, American Housewife, and Goldbergs will have to wait till 2021-22 for a "final season" announcement (Black-Ish and AH may get short orders then).

If anything's going to be cancelled because of strong comedy development for 2021-22, it should be Mixed-Ish. Because of The Conners only working 19 episodes last year (seriously, how'd they end up producing 20 episodes last year again?), It's also possible that AH will end-up back on Wednesdays at 9 once The Conners's next season ends. I'm sorry that the viewership for AH's first stint in that slot was not up to expectations (AH ending-up in that Wednesdays-at-9 slot is what the network wanted in the first place). It's part of the curse of an era where you can't have as big of an audience as the shows you've replaced. If ABC is still trying so hard to protect their "pet", then AH should have stayed at 8:30, with Black-Ish ending-up at 9:30. I also think ABC should have ordered two new comedies for 2020-21 rather than just one. Can't really trust ABC execs these days, eh, CatsRule?

And finally, if ABC does get back a third comedy hour on Tuesdays at 8 after The Bachelorette finishes, what will be scheduled for the Tuesdays at 9 hour?

No biggie. That is very possible too, that it'll be another year for all three. My point really was that I believe out of the three Blackish will be the first to go and Goldbergs last. The reason is simple: The Goldbergs is the biggest of the three, always has been. I still think they protect both Blackish and AH way more than they should and far more than the Goldbergs. One thing though that I just thought about is will they want to let one of their signatures shows to go next year when they just lost Modern Family? I am hoping though the Goldbergs makes it to 10 seasons because that would be really cool.

When do the actors/actresses/crew go back to work?

How are they going to work when they have to be atleast 6 feet apart and possible wear a mask?

If the Fall Schedule and or year schedule can not happen what is ABC’s Plan B schedule going to look like?

If I were ABC I would bring back past Shows & retro commercials and have the current ABC stars introducing the line-up from Zoom FaceTime tic toc or whatever they use these days.

Yeah I've been following this and it makes sense. Schooled wasn't generally on "bubble" lists and was either their 4th or fifth most popular ABC sitcom. ABC kept several sitcoms with lower ratings and the Goldbergs is still one of their biggest shows. The speculation was that due to the corona ABC would keep more shows but instead canceled more than expected, including Schooled wich no one predicted would be canceled.

Me neither. I was shocked Schooled was canceled because the ratings weren't that bad. However if this is true then it makes sense.

The response of the viewers was not good enough for season two. The second season only received 69 percent ratings from the 3.15 million viewers.

Yeah but it was still ABC's 4th or 5th rated sitcom. It didn't have great ratings but most shows today don't either. I did hear however, that originally Schooled was going to be a 13 episode show, basically a limited series. When it came to renewal they gave Adam F Goldberg two choices: either give the Goldbergs a multiyear renewal and cancel Schooled or renew both shows and he went with renew both. As a huge Goldbergs fan will state that part of the problem was that they spun it off so late in the gain. The Goldbergs still does decent in the ratings but several years ago was doing very well in the ratings and that was when they started talking a spin off. Had they done that, it would have had higher ratings.

I think in the fall we are going to see more remote shows. For example, if they do Dancing it might be from someone's house or everyone wears masks. Same with the singing shows because singing can be done at home.

While Tuesdays at 10:00 did not do shows like Emergence and Kevin (Probably) Saves the World any favors, the difference with Big Sky is it will have a strong Bachelorette lead-in vs. a low rated comedy, so Big Sky has a better chance of success. The Bachelorette is also a stronger lead-in than past its prime Dancing with the Stars, which is the lead-in Big Sky would have if it aired on Mondays.

Now that the ratings for Big Sky are in and ABC's midseason schedule has been unveiled, has your perception changed on Big Sky? I would still like to see The Good Doctor end up on Tuesdays-at-10 before season 5 ends (meaning Good Doctor and Big Sky will have to switch nights), and I refused to watch Big Sky for that reason, no matter how heavily promoted it's been. Big Sky's Live+SD ratings aren't any better than The Good Doctor's, and I told you that The Bachelorette lead-in may not last, meaning yet another potential one-season failure on that slot. Is Big Sky realistically going to be a long-running series so Tuesdays-at-10 will stop being such a problem slot for ABC Network?

Usually shows drop after the premiere, so that shows it has a loyal audience so far. The Good Doctor is an aging show that awful writing has destroyed, it does not deserve a good lead-in. First two seasons were really good, season 3 was already a lot worse. The horrible decision of killing off Dr. Melendez in the season finale has made it even worse this year, plus I hated the 2 parter opening season 4. I like how Big Sky has basically ignored this year's events and been escapist entertainment. The Good Doctor needs put out of its misery, will probably be renewed for season 5 but that should be the final season.

I'm still watching the current season of The Good Doctor on the ABC website, and I have to admit, its viewership has taken a fair hit this year because of the COVID storyline it's doing, and the belief that scripted shows are supposed to be an escape from reality (that's gotten more difficult due to COVID safety measures increasing production costs, resulting in season orders being shortened). And, no, season 5 can't be the final season for The Good Doctor; I want to see it reach 100 episodes first. It's more difficult for a show with 18 episodes a season to reach such a milestone than for those working 22-episode "full" seasons, and 100 episodes will require TGD to get a sixth-season renewal. And maybe its ratings will recover once its COVID storyline ends. Out fight regarding an end-date for The Goldbergs and Black-Ish earlier this year got so nasty, I'm just afraid to get into a similar dispute right now. Also, Good Doctor's Live+7 ratings are higher than those for Big Sky at this moment (So far, only the L+7 ratings for BS's first episode have been recorded, by Deadline (https://deadline.com/2020/12/big-sky-abc-l7-multiplatform-ratings-new-series-premiere-1234636131/)).

It was only the two-part opener that dealt directly with COVID. The rest of the season is taking place post-pandemic.

Other medical shows, like "Grey's Anatomy" on ABC for example, is dealing with COVID throughout the season.

My guess right now is American Housewife will probably be cancelled. Due to all the drama backstage and the casts changes and the undeciding time and day this show should be on. It makes me think there is no future for this show.

If anything I would think The Goldbergs will also be cancelled OR Fall 2021 will be its final season. Every episode seems to be the same the actors/actresses scream at each other during the entire episode than by the end the actors and actresses talk calmly why a sappy 80’s song plays.(lol)!

The Conners I don’t know if there really is a point. This show was brought back for a Roseanne reboot but since there is no longer a Roseanne I don’t think the show has the magic it once did or should continue.

What’s your thoughts?

AH very possible. The Goldbergs, not a chance. It's gone down in ratings but still ranked higher than most of the other shows, plus it's been successful for ABC and I can't imagine it without announcing a final season. It is closer to the end and wouldn't surprise me if it ends next year or the next (but don't see it going further).

Now that The Wonder Years remake has officially been ordered to series, I am revising the schedule I made. At first I had been skeptical about it but have been more interested ever since Dule Hill from Psych was cast. Queens sounds absolutely revolting though, too bad we are getting that hip hop crap in fall instead of Epic. At this point if Epic is ordered to series I would wait for fall 2022 where it still needs to air Sundays at 8:00 for the best chance of success. I will like Queens even less if it coming means Rebel is gone.

Before that Queens show got a series order, I was going to state that I would do the same Fall 2021 schedule CatsRule initially proposed (aside from cancellations already confirmed after it was posted), except have The Good Doctor finally move to Tuesdays (which would mean going up against New Amsterdam), swapping nights with Big Sky, and announce final season for The Goldbergs after George Segal died last March.

Also, why Summer AND Fall seasons for The Bachelorette this year? That'll just be too much. Always a perfect way to waste space for scripted programs.

It should be noted that Black-Ish and The Goldbergs can be considered very, very lucky for getting to produce full 20-plus episode seasons during the COVID-Pandemic-hindered 2020-21 U.S. Broadcast TV season (Black-Ish has 21, The Goldbergs has 22).

Also, The Blacklist (over on NBC) will also end up at 22 episodes for its current season, according to The Futon Critic (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/showatch/blacklist/listings/). But unlike The Goldbergs and Black-Ish, The Blacklist's current season will spill into June (its season finale doesn't air until June 23rd, outside of its regular Friday slot). I thought The Blacklist was going to end at just 18 episodes because of COVID safety protocols adding to shows' production costs.
