I was scrolling through YouTube about a week or so ago and found a video with a link to Gloria the complete series in HD quality. I was skeptical until I read the reviews on the seller's site. I went ahead and purchased the set and was extremely impressed when it arrived. The set had professional style artwork and menus. The episodes were in perfect quality, uncut and all 21 of the ones produced are included.

I also bought a few other series from the site (all in the same quality) but this review specifically is about Gloria. The link to the set is below.

His collection is kind of small which was surprising since he has something so rare. I may get this since its never in syndication and not on DVD

Now we need Archie Bunkers Place to come out on DVD to complete the fill All in the Family Reality. I just ordered the Complete series of All in the Family

I bought the All in the Family set back when it was originally released. It is a great set with tons of great extras.

The store I mentioned also has 704 Hauser Street which was an unsuccessful spin off attempt to the All in the Family realm. I was lucky enough to have that included as a bonus in my purchase.

I bought Sanford, Sanford Arms, What's Happening Now, 704 Hauser Street, Gloria.

I would have purchased Small Wonder but my Antenna TV recordings are already in perfect quality. My recording were also broadcasted before Antenna TV started credit crunching so each episode has the opening and closing credits in tact.

Speaking of Archie Bunker's Place, it was aired uncut on FamilyNet a few years back. Only a handful of episodes were edited and I believe that was the studio's doing, not FamilyNet's.

The 2 parter (originally aired as an hour) Gloria Comes Home episode is edited with both parts running 22 minutes each. I believe the original Gloria pilot also runs a little short (Not a big deal as the original pilot is included unedited with original opening and closing credits on the complete set of All in the Family). The 2 part (originally aired as an hour) Archie's New Partner episode also runs short at 22 minutes each. This episode is also edited on both the Sony and Mill Creek versions of season 1. It appears as an hour on the All in the Family complete set but in actuality it is the syndicated versions back to back. Each episode has an opening and closing credit so it isn't truly an hour long episode.

That's awesome. I'm glad to finally own all of the All in the Family related shows with the addition of Gloria (I've had about 7 original run episodes) and 704 Hauser (I've had 704 Hauser but this was an upgrade).

With the addition of Sanford Arms, I now own all the related shows of Sanford and Son. Grady was released a few years back and I've had Sanford (90s BET airings) for years but this most recent set is a major upgrade.

I still hate that the only Grady episode not on the DVD was a Sanford and son crossover:o with Esther, Woody, and Bubba

I agree. When it comes to really rare shows I'll take what I can get. If I only had one episode of Grady and Sanford Arms, I would be perfectly fine with it just because both shows are very hard to find. Missing 1 episode of Grady and 2 of Sanford Arms doesn't bother me too much.

This especially goes for DVD releases. Some shows only have 1 season on DVD and the remainder of those shows may never be released. I'll be happy with one season over nothing. Luckily with syndication most of these shows will appear someplace and we can make our own sets for the remaining seasons.

I recently purchased It's A Living from there. The quality is perfect but they are the same edits shown on Antenna TV and Logo minus the time compression and include the ending credits. It's a great set but I'll still hang on to my old recordings for the musical numbers and scenes that have been edited out in recent syndication packages.

I fear that if It's a Living ever gets an official DVD release, these are the episodes that will be included. I doubt the unedited versions exist or cost a fortune due to musical licensing.

Did you ever get your set TVFACTFAN? The seller emailed me last night with a list of new sets coming to the store in the next few months. My Two Dads, Archie Bunker's Place, One in a Million starring Shirley Hemphill and Family are all being added.

I'm specifically excited for My Two Dads, Archie Bunker's Place and One in a Million. Especially One in a Million because I've never seen it and it's never been shown in syndication to my knowledge. My Two Dads and Archie Bunker's Place have popped up in syndication a few times in recent years even though in general they don't get much airtime either.

I think he may have connections with studios and that's why he's able to find these rare shows in such amazing uncut quality. I don't think we'd be able to locate the content he's releasing to DVD on our own.

I've purchased amazing rare shows from many sellers but this one is by far one of the best. The Silver Spoons, Who's The Boss homemade sets from Joker and the recent The Hogan Family set made by ClassicTVChazz are among top contenders as well. Those are as a close to an authentic DVD release you'll find until an actual studio releases them.

I know the feeling. I have spent more than I care to admit for bootlegs over the past few months. I'm so impressed with these sets that I don't even care than I'm spending more than usual. These sets are better than some studio releases that create sets with edited material and musical substitutions.

I just recently purchased the Scooby and Scrappy Doo collection along with Muddling Through the complete series. Both sets are really good.

My Vinnie and Bobby/Top of The Heap and Living Dolls sets are expected to arrive next week.

You can not get Episode 3 on the set that was put out years ago. ONLY HERE AT MANTRONIX RETRO TV!!!!

Grady is an American sitcom and a spin-off of Sanford and Son that aired on NBC from December 4, 1975 to March 11, 1976. Whitman Mayo reprises his role as Fred Sanford's widower friend Grady, who leaves Watts to move in with his daughter and her family in Westwood.

Fingers crossed on the final 2 episodes of Sanford Arms appearing at some point so that it can be complete in our collections. It is airing in Canada at the moment so I'm checking to see if those missing will episodes air.

Sanford Arms is airing in Canada? Yes now I can toss the Grady set that I have that is incomplete. I can't tell you how pissed I was when the one ep that was missing was the crossover ep with Esther, Woody and Bubba. I would not have cared if any of the other eps was missing but you have to include the 3 crossovers

Sanford Arms airs on CHCH-DT in Canada. I think they may only have the 6 of 8 episodes airing as well. The final 2 may be lost or in too bad of shape to remaster for broadcasting. I have a friend in Canada keeping an eye out to see if those episode eventually air so he can record them.

Apparently Canada considers Sanford Arms the seventh season of Sanford & Son, so that's pretty cool.

Canadian stations seem to air most of their programming uncut. I wonder if all the programming on CHCH is airing uncut. Comedy Gold/Dejaview aired all of their programming uncut.

I have Who's the Boss, Joanie Loves Chachi, Petticoat Junction, One Day at a Time, and Growing Pains all uncut from Canadian broadcasts.

Look forward to My Two Dads, Archie Bunker's Place and Family within the next few months.

I'm especially looking forward to My Two Dads since I have never seen the uncut versions of season 3. I made a set from UPTV when it debuted on the network several years ago but those episodes were seriously edited down.

Just finished watching the Grady episode with Esther, Bubba and Woody. And lets just see it was definitely the best episode of the series. Lots of physical comedy and unexpected moments. It's one unexpected moment in this episode that you will enjoy a lot and its totally unexpected and funny. Its also something disappointing about the episode but that may only be to me. It has nothing to do with the quality of the episode just something to do with the storyline. So I, not going to spoil anything.

One scary moment for me was the episode was skipping and freezing and then completely stopped. Then I put the DVD in another laptop and the episode ran all the way through without any problems:). I was definitely going to cry if that was the case on both laptops:lol:

I have mixed feelings about episode 3. I was happy to see members of the cast of Sanford and Son on there but Grady's drinking had me worried. The bar scene was funny and awkward at the same time. Grady has always been kinda silly and crazy but that episode showed another side to him.

The scene with the Sanford and Son gang was nevertheless still very funny. I couldn't stop laughing when Ester's wig fell off and the gentleman kept trying to put it back on. Budda was kind of bold in this episode because he came after Ester in a style that Fred was know for. I don't know what Woody thought he was going to do by confronting Bubba but that scene was hilarious.

LOL. I kinda wish that these characters appeared more often. They were actually more entertaining than the cast of Grady. I liked the show but it wasn't nearly as good as Sanford and Son.

Sanford Arms and Sanford also didn't really catch on either. Neither of these shows had the magic that Sanford and Son captured. I'm shocked that Sandord made it 2 seasons because Fred and Cal were not as good together as Fred and Lamont.

Yesterday I found another site called Rewatch Classics that has a lot of the same shows that Mantronix has in their stores. I'm going to check out their reviews and do some research on them if I decide to place a purchase on that site. I don't trust most online sellers because there are so many scams going on these days.

Based on your review Angie, I placed an order with that seller for GLORIA and some 1970s cartoons I've been wanting for a long time. I'll have to look into that. If the show had high ratings but was cancelled there could have been several reasons why. First reason could have been the cost of producing the show. The second reason could be that Sally Struthers got tired of playing the character or wanted more money before she signed on to do a new season. I know Carroll O'Connor was pretty much left out of all creative decisions regarding the show. He wanted more input and they said no. For that reason he only appeared in the original pilot and never returned. He was mentioned a few times but never made any additional appearances.

He pretty much washed his hands of the series and focused only on Archie Bunker's Place until it ended.

I don't particularly like stacked DVDs either but it's not a big deal to me. I haven't had too many issues with discs. I only had one issue with a disc but was able to clean it off and the disc played properly. I even backed it up to another disc just incase.

I am not a stickler because these shows aren't really being released elsewhere. I can't stand the way Mill Creek releases their DVDs but for the price they charge I can make my own storage for the discs which allows for a longer lifespan in my collection.

Sony is known for the dreaded jumbo DVDs boxes which houses 20 plus discs in a cheap flimsy case. That's one of the worst offenses to TV on DVD collection. Sony also used to release complete sets with discs stacked on top of each other with a piece of cardboard holding them in place. That was another pet peeve.

However the price was unbeatable so I couldn't really complain. I just placed the discs in different storage cases.

AngieTribeca

In terms of great packaging I think Shout Factory and MPI do it the best. They release great sets with no stacked discs or cheap cases.

With both companies, they release multiple shows with each disc having it's own holder rather than overlapping another or being stacked.

Time Life did good with Mama's Family but the boxed set was far too big to effectively store on a shelf. They could have done something similar to a Shout Factory release and saved so much time and energy producing that set. I'm not complaining though. It was one of the best releases of 2013.

The Dick Van Dyke original complete series set was another interesting release because it was a gigantic box with several slim cases holding a disc from each season. It's not really shelf friendly but at least you can access each disc without having to touch another one.

I decided to purchase the LG DVD player with Xvid so I can watch them on that instead of the Laptop. I found out my laptop is not compatible with DVD-R Discs

Thanks. I bookmarked the page and will go there on the 2nd. I assume these episodes are recorded off the tv? I'm hoping they are because they usually catch the Closed Captions that are embedded in the show and will be able to display when playing the dvds.

Since Antenna TV left my city, I don't get to see ABP anymore and miss it so i'd love to have the whole series.

Aw that sucks. :(

I ordered a couple of TV series in the past from people who recorded the shows off television airings and the CC from the airings copied onto the dvd. I figured ABP would be the same.

Oh well....i'll just have to wait for the studio to put out an official complete series....but I won't hold my breath on that.

Wow, the AITF Complete Series only has 2 seasons CC?! I was thinking of getting that to replace all the separate season dvds that I have and now i'm glad that I didn't!!

I have all the separate season releases which have CC so i'll just stick with that. I'm hoping one day CBS will release a total box set with AITF, ABP & Gloria all together in one big set. I would so love that!

I just found out Crackle has seasons 1 & 2 of ABP so until then, i'll make do with those for my fix. And they're all CC too.

These are not recorded from TV airings and where they were captured from does not contain a closed caption option. My set from FamilyNet, where I recorded each episode directly to DVD (no downloads or file transfers) has closed captions since FamilyNet enabled the closed caption algorithm on their programming.

So, all the separate seasons of All In The Family have CC? I would be interested in buying those if they did. My box set is from Shout Factory, who made the ones with CC that you have? Only season one abd two have CC in the box set by shout factory. I have read reviews that also the box set that is only seasons 1-5, that only season 1-2 are CC. I am really wanting every season with CC if I can find it.
Yes, i watch crackle a lot and I know also the channel get tv is showing AITF
and they have closed captioning. Anyway, I hope you can tell me where you got all the seasons of AITF with CC at. Thank you. PS one thing about the Shout Factory Box set that I like is all the Bonus features so I guess it has worked out for me that way. I am very happy with it actually and I also got a good price on it, so all is good. but please tell me where/ what company made seasons 3-9 with CC. Thanks.

Here's a list of the seasons I have by studio as shown on the back of each box--
All have CC on them, and i've played these out so much and they always play perfect.

Season 1---Sony
Season 2---Sony
Season 3---Sony
Season 4---Sony
Season 5---Sony
Season 6---Sony
Season 7---Sony & SHOUT (Both studios are listed on back of box)
Season 8---I bought this season online from IOffer before the site went away. Someone was selling ripped dvd seasons of the show for a fraction of the price sold new and they all came with CC. But I don't know what the studio this season was from since they're just ripped dvd-r's. It plays perfectly though.
Season 9---Sony & SHOUT again.

It's odd that SHOUT is listed only on the last few seasons. Perhaps I bought the Sony ones before Shout bought the rights to the series? In any case, if you want all CC seasons look for the Sony ones.

I suggest going to Ebay because most times the seller takes pictures of the back of the box where you can see the CC logo as well as which studio it's from before you buy.
If it's Sony on the back, you're good with the CC. Every separate season from 1-9 I have are all CC.

I will stay far away from the box set now. It's a shame they only CC the first 2 seasons. It makes no sense to do that!

Since "Archie Bunker's Place" and Mantronix Retro TV were both mentioned, I'd like to add my personal experience with this site from just three days ago:

Never heard about it before, yet was glad to order some classics which aren't available in any other form, and so I did with "Archie Bunker's Place - complete studio recordings" - recieved a link and finished downloading all seasons.

Imagine my surprise as I've noticed it has the "film" look and not the "videotape" one (can't think of the proper technical term at the moment) and e-mailed the site for answers.

The response I've got contained the following: "Maybe you can contact Sony and tell them you dont like the way their original prints look?" and "For 50 dollars i think you would realize what a rare treasure you have."

While I agree it's rare indeed, it is also quite the rude way to answer a client.

You complained about the videos being presented in 4x3 PB which is the original prints from Sony. You said you were disappointed and wanted them in Full stretched VHS format. And were waiting for me to do something about it. I informed you of the fact that I only distribute them the way Sony has them. I also mentioned that you were welcome to ask Sony why they are not presented the way you want them. What is so rude about that? Did you want me to ask them for you? PS.....The collection on my site has 5 edited episodes out of 97. Only one is from season one. So, the remaining three seasons only have four. The archie alone two part and the Gloria comes home two part. All the other 92 episodes are the unedited versions.

The Archie Alone episodes aired uncut on FamilyNet. It didn't air as an hourlong episode but each part ran 24 minutes or so long. I've been holding off on this set because my FamilyNet set is really good and primarily uncut. He has Free Spirit as well but I have the series from original airings. You're not likely to find any of those completely unedited any time soon. I have the complete series of Chico and the Man but it is not completely uncut. It runs 23 minutes long, which is longer than syndication length but still missing and additional minute and a half of content.

I also have the complete series of Roc from TV One recordings. They run between 22 and 23 minutes long. I have no original airings to compare them to so I'm not sure if they are completely uncut though.

Never been a huge Three's Company fan so I've never owned the DVDs. I have the spin off Three's A Crowd on DVD but I've always liked that show better.

I'll catch Three's Company when it airs from time to time but never felt the need to buy the DVDs.

Speaking of edits, I found a slight edit in the Gimme a Break complete series set. Two lines were edited out of the Who Dunnit episode from season 4.

In regards to edited episodes on a DVD set I can deal with a handful of edited episodes, not the entire set. 5 edited episodes isn't bad at all.

The Alf set is probably the worst offender when it comes to edited episodes because almost every episode is syndicated versions. Maybe a handful of episodes are uncut if that.

Same goes with the Angie set from VEI. Roughly 7 episodes are uncut while the rest are syndicated versions. No sale VEI.

Chico and the man or Roc dont have to be unedited since they are not shown anywhere. Only Three's Company

That maybe the most pointless release in DVD history, short-lived show like that is edited? crazy:crazy:

You complained about the videos being presented in 4x3 PB which is the original prints from Sony. You said you were disappointed and wanted them in Full stretched VHS format. And were waiting for me to do something about it. I informed you of the fact that I only distribute them the way Sony has them. I also mentioned that you were welcome to ask Sony why they are not presented the way you want them. What is so rude about that? Did you want me to ask them for you? These are super rare shows that arent available to the public presented in great audio and video quality. Which is pretty awesome in my opinion. Sorry if you took my reply as rude. it was not intended to be.

No, that wasn't my complaint. I was reffering to the "film" look presented and not the "videotaped" version which I was expecting. I actually own ABP's first season, and much like a standard Norman Lear show - it looks the way it should - as it was shot on videotape and not on film.

"Black bars" really don't bother me as much, and we've already agreed on the fact these shows are rare.

I'm glad to hear your customers recieve the treatment you describe and that it wasn't your intention to be rude, but say you were to purchase a vehicle from an agency and problems were found with it - would you take it kindly if the agency told you to take it to the manufacturing company?

Just want to put in my two cents about and to Mantronix. I ordered ABP, All's Fair and 704 Houser st. a couple of weeks ago. Shipping was fast and I am very pleased with my purchases. No complaints here. Also bought Gloria about a month ago and am happy with that, too. The editing is not a big deal to me in ABP, I have an older set that for the most part was taped off of TV ( not family net) that has the episodes mentioned here that are edited ( 5) not as edited, so it evens out. I am happy with the quality of Mantronix's set, it is much much better than what I had, especially seasons 2-4 that were taped off Tv on my other set. This means a lot to me. Very clear sharp picture and the audio is great. This seller has always been kind to me. I am glad I bought them and would recommend the sets.

Once again I do apologize if any of the comments on here came off as an attack.

I've had nothing but great experiences with the Mantronix store and will definitely keep purchasing as long as it stays in business.

We can live with all the topics we were discussing. None of that has any impact of future purchases, at least for me. I may hold off on purchasing sets right away but I'll definitely get around to purchasing other sets during the holiday season.

As far as pricing goes, that's subjective. We base what we'll consider paying based on our level of interest in a show. To each their own when it comes to that matter.

In regards to the Archie Bunker's Place set we also need to consider the time and effort spent creating that set. We're not just paying for the show, we're paying for the effort spent to create that set and the materials used. Most sellers send their discs in sleeves. We get full artwork and cases so that definitely a plus.

Sir, I can't honestly answer that question because the problems that you found are not with the product but with your personal preference.

Take a look at Winnie's response. She bought the same vehicle as you did.

Best Wishes.

I suggest you take a look at this upload of ABP's season 1, for instance:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTd0Akgmiz4

Even though it could do better visual-wise - the framerate is correct and the characters are moving "smoother". That's the videotape look and this is the way it should look like.

It's one of my favorites and I very often dream it would get a complete series commercial release.

If I ever get a hold of the original prints of all 88 episodes I probably would make the set but it would be another 16 dvd monster set that would price out similar to ABP for sure.

If Chico and the Man appears on your site I will defintely pay 70 for that because its not showing in syndication and never released on DVD

I have a excellent set of Chico And The Man and let me say $70 seems ridiculously high.

I am currently working with the seller to get that episode added to his Archie Bunker's Place set. That episode will indeed be part of his set. The episode I have runs almost 25 minutes long so it's definitely unedited.

Finishing up season 2 of the ABP set and only one small issue. When I try to select the episode it's hard to get the cursor to move from ep to ep but that was very minor. overall I am enjoying the set and looking forward to season 3 with the appearance of Gloria

Just found out that season 1 of Gloria and Season 4 of ABP aired back to back on CBS so I think I will look at both DVD's together the way the public watched it back in 1982/83
