Maybe standards were different 45 years ago, but I didn’t think the character of Michelle was fat at all. She might have been on the bigger side of the normal size range, but nothing anyone would consider fat or obese. Yet she’s always talking about being overweight and Carlin calls her a tub of lard.

She was probably the best actress who auditioned for the part. No, she wasn't really that fat. Mostly it was her talent that fit the part.
