This is perhaps the Unsolved Mysteries case that has most baffled me. For anyone who's not familiar with her story, her page on the UM wiki is here (https://unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Kristi_Krebs). It's plainly evident that she was suffering from some kind of mental illness that I don't think was accurately diagnosed when she was initially treated in the hospital - granted, this was about 30 years ago, when mental illness wasn't as thoroughly understood as it is now. Even today, a person suffering from a mental disorder (I speak from experience) often has to undergo a number of incorrect diagnoses and treatments before they find something that works for them. What saddens me is that her parents seemed fully committed to helping her, whatever her condition. As a lay person and someone who also suffers from a few mental illnesses (in my case, depression, anxiety, OCD, and most likely ADD), I've done a lot of research on the subject, and just from what I've seen, my unqualified opinion is that Kristi suffered from undiagnosed bipolar disorder. As with any mental illness, even people who are successfully diagnosed often have to try several different types of medications and therapies before they find what works best for them. Kristi and her parents could not possibly have realized how harmful her frantic pace (working several hours at 2 jobs and going to the gym) was for her. I personally think she was experiencing a manic episode in the days leading up to her disappearance, which lead to her going for a lengthy drive instead of going home. I think the whole getting stuck in the mud thing was an unfortunate coincidence, and as her father said in the UM segment, it just overloaded the circuits. I believe that the missing car stereo was most likely the result of someone happening across the abandoned car and taking it. I'm undecided as to whether those who have reported sightings of her are correct - I believe that they believe they saw her, but I think they may have been mistaken. My personal theory is that Kristi became disoriented after the crash just as she did after the first and that she probably wandered off and succumbed to the elements. From what I've read from folks who are local to the area, the woods are incredibly dense and difficult to search, so finding Kristi could be near impossible. I'd be interested to hear anyone else's theories on the case. I searched the forum and wasn't able to find any discussion on her within the past couple years, so I thought now would be a good time to revive it.
