View Full Version : Stone Military Academy episodes
TV Guy 06-06-2020, 01:37 PM It’s interesting that after NBC declined to pick up a series based on the first backdoor pilot, Embassy produced another pilot with the exact same cast, again hoping for pickup. Usually, when an initial pilot fails to sell, the producers change it up (or the networks force them to) if they get another bite at the apple. “Three’s Company”, “All in the Family”, and “Love Boat” all had multiple pilots where they tinkered with the cast. You’d think they would have replaced David Ackroyd as the major, or Ben Marley as the boring fourth roommate.
RetroGuy2000 06-07-2020, 11:51 PM It's been years since I've seen the Stone episodes, so I guess I can't comment, other than to agree that it's weird they kept everybody, when that never seems to happen.

Although I never even think of any of the other boys since Alfred Webster is the main one here.
FOL-FAN-ITA 06-08-2020, 03:45 AM I never understood this. Probably NBC wanted to produce this spin off but didn't like something of it and ordered another pilot. Or they simply used again the characters.
Of all the Facts of Life potential spin off shows, this is my least favorite. It would have been a clone of the original show with boys instead of girls and a carbon copy of Welcome Back, Kotter.

80s Dude 06-08-2020, 01:03 PM This was my favorite spin off attempt. Though there was certainly to high set of standards for spinoffs attempts.

Bulimia is a good episode mainly because Kimberly is back. I like the eighth season slightly more than the seventh season because it is not so Sam-centric like the previous one and some episodes are enjoyable
*in my opinion, season 7 is the worst season of the show. Seasons 8 and 6 are slightly better.
Seasons 1-4 are the best, season 5 is ok, 6-8 are terrible

Like you, I appreciate that they brought Kimberly back for "Bulimia". We even get to see her in the opening credits, even though her name doesn't appear.

I really appreciated they put her in the opening credits. It's a little tribute to the show's early years

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you: season 7 is definitely the WORSE season!!! (when watching it, i feel like they were more like experimenting things with the new shop 'Over our heads', and the acting was terrible!!!!):2bump:2bump:2bump

Yes! A really nice touch! "Kimberly is still part of our family".
'80sSitcoms 06-09-2020, 04:15 PM Oo, a little "bonus" for watching B, nice.
I was "re-stunned" last week to see Kimberly appear in a surprise return for her daddy's birthday in season 7. It would have been nice if she'd been credited in the show's opening intro, BUT, that would have defeated the whole purpose of her surprising her father, and brothers, and the audience, lol (there was a noticeable reaction from the audience, which was very cool!)
She also appeared in the season 7 finale, but wasn't in the opening credits.
She looked so great upon returning! It's a shame that was all short-lived...

:lol::lol::lol::lol:
I still do not understand why they couldn't have suspended her and brought her back full-time after the pregnancy had ended. If that was the only reason, it was a dumb one.

Pregnancy aside, she had been causing problems on the set. I'm sure that all of her issues were taken into consideration.

According to the producers, only the pregnancy was taken into consideration. But I have always been skeptical, because even Kim Fields has reported there were problems with both Gary and Dana on the set.

RetroGuy2000 06-10-2020, 03:56 PM You were right! She did appear in footage in the credits!
You sound surprised that I was right. ;)
Yeah, it's not even just historical footage, like you see on some shows: they invited her back to sit on the couch with the rest of the family, and everything.
'80sSitcoms 06-10-2020, 04:09 PM You sound surprised that I was right. ;)

I am! I mean, I believed you of course. But it's just because you're not a DS watcher, and who knows when the last time you saw this was. I myself had previously seen it maybe, mmmm, 4 years ago?? And I didn't remember that.
So I assume you haven't seen it in a decade or two, so I was surprised that you would remember that detail!
Obviously, any detail you remember from a Lost Girl will not surprise me. But this is season 8 DS. This is different!

Yeah, "new footage"---that's so cool!
I had momentarily forgotten they redid the opening theme and titles. It is a really great concept with all the picture frames and everything.
And I had REALLY forgotten they made over the entire penthouse! It's SOOOOOOOOO late '80s!!!
And that ending theme music, OMG---it just SCREAMS "low-budget first-run syndication"---even though it was a major network with a big budget! lol
valentina warner 06-10-2020, 04:36 PM Isn't that funny: i used to love watching DS while growing up, but after i discovered FOL (years later as an adult) i dropped it!!!!!

It's just standard muzak from the late 1980s.

Why not? I forgot about it after approximately 4 years-ish.
It's just standard muzak from the late 1980s.
Yes, so what is it doing here?? It doesn't match the show's opening AT ALL. And with most TV shows you're used to the ending credit theme sounding similar to the intro theme, if not being the very same thing to begin with, which most shows already are. "Gimme a Break!" is an exception. They had a very synthesizer-heavy end credit track similar to the season 8 DS end credit music, but this seems to be a few and far between. I just couldn't believe DS suddenly sounded like "Small Wonder".
RetroGuy2000 06-10-2020, 05:42 PM I just couldn't believe DS suddenly sounded like "Small Wonder".
Why not? SW was also produced at Metromedia Square, produced by Howard Leeds, and directed by John Bowab.

Yes, in that light it makes sense, but it doesn't make sense just thinking of DS as a whole, lol.
Lorimar Television 06-10-2020, 06:30 PM You forgot the s8 intro of DS? Thats been burned into my memory forever!
TV Guy 06-10-2020, 07:36 PM Yeah - that ending theme for S8 of DS was certainly cheap-sounding. But the whole season was cheap: I think only Conrad Bain, Gary Coleman and (perhaps) Danny Cooksey appeared in all the episodes. All the other cast members missed a considerable number of episodes, in order to save money.
RetroGuy2000 06-10-2020, 08:42 PM You forgot the s8 intro of DS? Thats been burned into my memory forever!
I don't mind the intro; '80s was complaining about the outro, which I've gotta admit, is fairly cheesy. But it was the mid-1980s, when cheese was big.

Yeah, you can tell they were trying to save money. I think the new ABC set didn't help.
I do love the season 8 opening credits, though. Having moving images in the picture frames had to cost a pretty penny, in those days. Nowadays, the effect is easy to duplicate in Adobe Premiere, but it must have been a time-consuming, expensive process in the Old Days.

Well I wasn't complaining, because who doesn't love '80s cheesiness?? I have a BIG immunity to it, so I can take a LOT of '80s cheesiness (my limit is "Small Wonder", lol). I was just so surprised because I didn't see that coming!

Yes. But they're raising her as their "daughter". You mean to tell me this guy can engineer a robot that looks like a little girl, who they have to keep secret, but nobody thinks to provide their fake daughter with a bedroom?!
'80sSitcoms 06-12-2020, 09:49 AM I remember seeing this show while channel-flipping in junior high and immediately calling one of my best friends who was blessed with cable (we weren't, out where we were) and asking them "What IS this???" lol...like I said, I can take a LOT of cheese, but this took the cheese cake! One of the reasons I LOVED going to my grandparents' house was getting to watch cable TV. It felt like such a treat to watch, like, "Hey Dude" on Nickelodeon.
Did you guys ever watch that show? It was probably before Lorimar's time. Low-budget sitcom Western, with, like, seven kids and a headmaster -- er, I mean, a boss on the ranch. I just got the complete series on DVD, and am planning to watch. I'm sure there are episodes I've never even seen.
'80sSitcoms 06-12-2020, 07:02 PM Not HD, but boy do I know what you mean! Going to either one of my grandparents' houses was television HEAVEN---Gran & Pop had the satellite dish, and Grandmommy & Papa Dan have cable (Gran & Pop were my dad's Sue Ann-y folks and lived just a mile away, so I got to see a LOT of satellite dish programming in the 1980s. Grandmommy & Papa Dan are more Molly's folks [albeit still married] and live about 50 minutes from my parents, so the visits to them wasn't as regular as the ones just a mile away were).
RetroGuy2000 06-12-2020, 07:20 PM Yes! TV "heaven"! That's the right word!
Lorimar Television 06-13-2020, 12:06 AM Wow you had Sue Ann AND Molly grandparents? How lucky haha
'80sSitcoms 06-13-2020, 12:10 AM Wow you had Sue Ann AND Molly grandparents? How lucky haha
Haha! Well yeah Dad's folks come from rural backgrounds and had a rural lifestyle, so they were definitely closest to Sue Ann's folks.
For Mom's folks, I say they're closest to Molly's folks because Molly's dad is so loving and open and loves kids, which is a lot like how Papa Dan is, and even though we didn't meet Mrs. Parker on screen, she was coming to attend to her family need, which I'm sure Grandmommy would do, lol.
I still have my Molly grandparents!
