The pre-RS episodes have always been fond favorites for me. Some of the most enduring segments seem to be from these airings.

If we never had knowledge of how perfect RS would be as a host and Malden continued on in that capacity, I'm fairly certain that the show would have still been a success and Malden just as beloved as Stack. Actually, it would have been fine by me if they had taken turns hosting. Malden could tackle the lighter, human interest stuff and RS could keep us posted on the criminal, creepy and even the dated paranormal fluff that he could handle adroitly. I think it would have worked out quite nicely.

Burr had an appealing voice, but just not as strong as the other two as a host.

It’s painful not to get to hear Stack narrate the original Unabomber segment. It would have been a classic if part of the Stack run.

I wonder if Malden would go off by himself and sit on some rocks and practice his UM commentary (working on different inflections for each sentence).

Although nobody can touch RS, Karl Malden did a decent job. He had his own style.
