"The Resident" Renewed for 2020-21 Season at Fox

Fox has officially renewed medical drama "The Resident", starring Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp for the 2020-21 season.

"The Resident" will be heading into its fourth season and it averages nearly 10 million multi-platform viewers, rankinh among the season’s Top 10 broadcast dramas among Adults 18-34.

The bubble medical drama (https://deadline.com/2021/05/the-resident-prodigal-son-the-moodys-canceled-renewed-1234751272/), which ends its fourth season on Tuesday, was "really the first show to show problems in medicine and to really attack them and we took a lot of flack from doctors all across the country saying, 'Why are you doing this?' Doctors are heroes, et cetera, et cetera," says showrunner Andrew Chapman. "And we said, 'Yeah, doctors are heroes. Absolutely. But there are issues out there and you have to deal with these issues. Over the course of our now four seasons to run into people who are in the healthcare world, to have them come to me and go, 'Oh, you work on The Resident? I love that show. It's so true that this is a problem and that we deal with that problem all the time.' That's incredibly fulfilling to me."
