I already said that this decade is gonna be The Boring 20's! My bad year was 2017 and I want to forget it (what little I remember). It started in January with my mom dying unexpectedly hen two weeks later my grandpa dying (this was expected). Then a week before Ash Wednesday I got strep throat which caused me to miss the beef dinner at the church that Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. On and off from February until May I was either bedridden or in the hospital. Did I mention on top of it I was in school? Yep though luckily most of my classes were online and the one not, he put our assignments online, let us go early and some weeks we had online assignments. Then I also got kidney issues and was misdiagnosed with liver cancer (falsely thankfully) but for months I threw up and couldn't eat. Plus my arthritis caused my ankles to swell and couldn't walk and then my skin started burning and peeling. I have a form of psoriasis which caused it to become dangerous and back to the hospital I went. Then to add to everything, a counseling program I really wanted to enroll in, I got rejected, though I had a 4.0 (yes managed to get straight A's while being sick). 2018 kind of stunk too (severe bullying by my one professor who pushed me into a wall and belittled me in class)but at least no illness. MacLeaper 05-20-2020, 06:03 PM Why would you say that? 2020 rocks! Every day of life is something to be thankful to God for being granted. And every year since the fall of man has its share of hardships due to the curse of sin the entire world is still under. Thankfully, Jesus has come and defeated sin through His death and Resurrection and offers forgiveness of it for anyone who puts faith in Him and follows Him. That’s great if someone’s thing is sitting home alone all day with the Bible (and that’s fine, more power to you). But many people worldwide prefer to go out, make a living, be with other other people, and basically go outside without fear of a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus. So I don’t think you’re gonna find too many 2020 supporters. MrCleveland 05-20-2020, 08:03 PM My bad year was 2017 and I want to forget it (what little I remember). So I don’t think you’re gonna find too many 2020 supporters. Sitting at home alone all day with The Bible is definitely my thing.:) I also enjoy going out and making a living and being with other people and going outside without fear of a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus. It's okay to do more than one of those things. And I have faith in God that's greater than fear of a virus. I believe in taking proper precautions but I also believe in trusting my life in God's hands. (Romans 14:8) All I was trying to say is that I'm not writing 2020 off as a loss because of tragic disease in the world that's forced me and so many others to drastically alter habits and ways of doing life. I'm thankful to God for every day He gives me regardless of what happens. He's always in control and I know that the struggles I go through on Earth are still momentary and light compared to the weight of glory coming. (See Romans 8.) say hello to the easter bunny for me I said hello to the God who made the bunny and all other animals for you- and the God who died to pay for all our sins and rose again on Easter Sunday. MacLeaper 05-21-2020, 12:01 PM So nobody has any control over their own actions and they're not responsible. Whatever. Enjoy your "faith." I certainly enjoy my faith. No air quotes needed. It's real and active. However, the fact that God is in total control does not mean that no humans have control over their own actions and are not responsible for anything. That is getting into the question of free will versus determinism. If you're really interested in an answer to that, here's a great response from Ravi Zacharias, noted Christian apologist who just went to be with The Lord Jesus in Heaven the other day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysilAAo5RcA God does indeed give humans free will. That doesn't negate His sovereignty. Romans 9 explains this in depth as well. And because God is in full control, I certainly still maintain that 2020 rocks! Feel free to enjoy negativity if you prefer but I would rather choose optimism and resting in the knowledge that everything that befalls me is according to God's plan and He always has my best interests in mind. Good answer. It is a combination of both... our free will and God's will. Sometimes we pray for something which doesn't happen but it turns out it would harm us in the long run. Like a relationship or a job, for example. MacLeaper 05-22-2020, 09:26 PM Thanks. And yes- you said it well. Fleet 05-22-2020, 11:56 PM Thanks.
