All Ted seems to do, at least in the early seasons, is whine (https://screenrant.com/how-met-your-mother-ted-mosby-best-quotes-love/) about finding “the one” or “the love of his life” instead of enjoying his youth while he still could.

Teen Lust: This A- list mostly television actor struck gold with a long running network series. Since then, he has not had much luck. Apparently his behavior led to the cancellation of a show because the producers were tired of dealing with him. In his most recent series, it was canceled because he was head over heels for an actress who decidedly did not feel the same way. Our actor wouldn't stop pursuing the actress. She complained and actually quit the show before it was canceled just to avoid him. That led to the actor stalking her and showing up unannounced in front of her home and even telling her parents he could help her land other jobs. He would have gifts delivered to her house everyday. When the parents of the actress complained to the producers, they gave a warning to the actor but the actor kept right on doing it. The show was not doing that great, but it made the decision so much easier for the network to avoid any future liability on their part.

Ted is an easy to hate character (even though I don't think that was their intent) because he comes across as incredibly pathetic and needy. You can make a joke when summarizing what HIMYM is about by saying that it's about a man, who thirsts over every woman, hoping that he'll eventually find "the one". This is all the while, he tells his children all kinds of inappropriate nonsense over the course of nine seasons.

Actually I think Ted's the most likable character on the show, which isn't saying much I suppose, but I could hang out with the guy some. I can't stand any of the other characters, especially Barney and Robin! They're so self-centered sleazy and sex obsessed it's disgusting. I can't imagine why anybody would ever be friends with either one of them or find them attractive!
