I saw her first episode yesterday. While Pippa is a dumb name, I liked her character and the Australian accent is charming. Kelly is a lot worse.

Valentina likes her, too. :) cfr1970 05-15-2020, 10:53 AM I saw her first episode yesterday. While Pippa is a dumb name, I liked her character and the Australian accent is charming. Kelly is a lot worse. I'm glad that you like her. Now valentina will have company and no longer be a Loki anymore.:wave: The only thing I can agree with is that Kelly is a lot worse and the most hateful character that's ever came on FOL. In my opinion though, this Pippa girl is a few years too late to the party. At this point in the show there's no need to shove a young teen girl into the mix when you have a main cast of 20 year old women now. It feels like regressing. I know Andy needed a playmate to lesson his growing creep factor since he was aging, but it only detracts from the Core Four who should be the main focus. Anyway, valentina will be happy to have company now!:wave: Hoagie78 05-15-2020, 11:11 AM Surprisingly Sherrie Krenn (Pippa) in real life is only 1 year younger than Kim Fields. cfr1970 05-15-2020, 11:33 AM Surprisingly Sherrie Krenn (Pippa) in real life is only 1 year younger than Kim Fields. OMG that kangaroo is only 5 months younger than me!! So she was 17 years old when she began and was playing a 15 year old. Hmm. They should've went the other way and slutted her look up a bit to have her be a Langley freshman instead to be more compatible with the girls. Bringing on an Eastland girl at this point seemed like a step back. But I guess they probably had plans to use her in the Eastland spin off that never came to be? RetroGuy2000 05-15-2020, 04:13 PM I guess they probably had plans to use her in the Eastland spin off that never came to be? YEP! She was prominently featured in the backdoor pilot. '80sSitcoms 05-15-2020, 04:24 PM OMG that kangaroo is only 5 months younger than me!! I have asked you elsewhere to please do not insult 🦘s! ;) 80s Dude 05-15-2020, 05:04 PM Someone said in a Facts of Life Facebook group that the Core Four objected when Sherrie got lots of lines in an episode (Bad Girls in Trouble). TV Guy 05-15-2020, 06:25 PM Nancy suggested a special episode where Pimppa was beheaded in a workplace accident at Over Our Heads. And that was going to be the reason they closed the store. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed. RetroGuy2000 05-15-2020, 07:31 PM  valentina warner 05-15-2020, 08:02 PM YEP! She was prominently featured in the backdoor pilot. If PIPPA was featured to be in the 'FOL PILOT', does that mean she was going to be the new BLAIR from the old 'pilot'? You know, the new bad girl? (1988 vs 1979?):brent:brent:brent valentina warner 05-15-2020, 08:04 PM PS: i'm glad i'm alone and the only LOKI, so welcome on board catsrule!!!! valentina warner 05-15-2020, 08:06 PM You two are terrible Retro and cfr1970 ha ha ha! Lorimar Television 05-15-2020, 08:43 PM I honestly don’t hate Pippa, Idt she was necessary but she didn’t do much after her debut RetroGuy2000 05-16-2020, 02:18 AM Someone said in a Facts of Life Facebook group that the Core Four objected when Sherrie got lots of lines in an episode (Bad Girls in Trouble). Interesting. I wonder if that's true. It sure is similar to what Pamela said about Nancy/Lisa. RetroGuy2000 05-16-2020, 02:24 AM If PIPPA was featured to be in the 'FOL PILOT', does that mean she was going to be the new BLAIR from the old 'pilot'? You know, the new bad girl? (1988 vs 1979?):brent:brent:brent I think the original plan, based on seeing Pippa's first episode, was that she was going to be a lot of trouble for the girls. Hence the whole 'I'm Franny, well, really I'm not. I'm headed home with my dad. No, I'm actually running back to these strangers at 3 AM' business. I think if the spin-off had been green-lit, we would have seen Pippa grow into a real character, maybe like Jo, or the rebel version of Blair. But with there being "ten, twelve characters" on the show by Season 9, her character development faltered. She became more Nancy Olsen than Nancy McKeon: there to walk in, deliver an Australianism, and then exits Stage Left. '80sSitcoms 05-16-2020, 02:27 AM And her voice was so weak and quiet and breathy! Why on earth they ever chose her to appear on television I have no idea (saying nothing of being the lead singer in a girl* rock band). *'Sorry, Molly. I keep forgetting. You're 'women'." Christopher 05-16-2020, 08:07 AM Idt she was necessary but she didn’t do much after her debut This ^^^^^ She wasn't a needed character in the show. After she entered the show, she was portrayed as a nuisance for the core four. Each time Pippa tried to connect with the girls, they shunned her. If they had wrote Pippa's character as being mentored by the core four like Mrs. Garrett did with them in the early seasons, maybe I would feel differently about Pippa. However, they wrote Pippa as a character that was in the way. I didn't see why she was there or why the writers would make the core four that selfish. The addition of Pippa was pointless IMO. 80s Dude 05-16-2020, 08:14 AM I think the original plan, based on seeing Pippa's first episode, was that she was going to be a lot of trouble for the girls. TV Guy 05-16-2020, 10:02 AM Season 9 is awful. The girls should have gone their separate ways by this point. There was no reason for them to be hanging around with Edna’s sister, the increasingly annoying Andy, and some rando from Australia. cfr1970 05-16-2020, 11:49 AM And her voice was so weak and quiet and breathy! In the episode, The First Time (one of the episodes the girls shun Pippa), Pippa asks Beverly Ann if she discovers Roger is her true love would it be ok to have sex. She did have a boyfriend, or a boy she was interested in, that was named Roger. 80s Dude 05-17-2020, 11:15 AM Wait... which episode was this?:lol::lol::lol: The First Time. 80s Dude 05-17-2020, 11:19 AM The Facts of Life was not creative at times. Like calling the boarding school at first "Eastlake" because it was loosely based on Mindy's school "Westlake". They gave two of it's characters the same first name as the actor (though these two would become the biggest stars away from FOL) as well as some of their guest stars the same name as the actor (such as Mr. ROBERT Garrett). They couldn't even come up with another boy's name for Pippa's crush. I don't know of many, if any, boys Pippa's age named Roger. WriterChick78 07-21-2020, 04:42 PM I didn't hate her, either. And, I hated Princess Alexandra as much, if not more, than Kelly. I know Kelly was surprisingly on something I watched recently and she was good. I didn't recognize her, but I recognized her name. I'm too tired to look it up on IMDB at the moment. It may have been American Horror Story since I binged it in quarantine. WriterChick78 07-21-2020, 04:45 PM OMG that kangaroo is only 5 months younger than me!! I should have read your whole post. valentina warner 07-21-2020, 05:22 PM It's a shame they never had a season 10: i would have loved to see BLAIR interact more with the 'Eastland' girls as the new headmistress!!!! (she would have done a wonderful job at counselling them, after having had MRS G as a role model for so many years)..... Impressions 09-19-2020, 04:12 PM I didn't hate her but I agree with the commentary on here that she unnecessary and a nuisance in the show. She was like the "Cousin Oliver" of The Facts of Life. Getting into trouble and causing havoc for the girls. Case in point, the episode "Present Imperfect," where she and Andy throw a party, which then causes Jeff's grandmother's heirloom to somehow end up in a blender, and then Tootie crushing it in the blender. Sure, it was partly Andy's fault, but still... she was supposed to take care of it and she was wearing it the whole time. DEH55 10-28-2020, 08:24 PM I just watched the last season episodes and it was clear it's best days were behind it. And anytime they add a younger character you know the show is heading downhill. But I didn't have a huge problem with actual character. The girl was likable enough but it's painfully obvious they made her Australian to jump on the Crocodile Dundee bandwagon. That movie was big at the time. And then after introducing her they didn't seem to know what to do with her. You mentioned the Aussie bandwagon, but it was like they were trying to jump on every possible bandwagon: Pop stars! Spencer's! Australia! They just couldn't figure out what the show was even about anymore, so the show embraced nearly every 1980s fad. |
